TKR Misaligned leg after TKR

Called another PT I knew and she almost figured out what the mistake that was made ….will know more after the standing X-ray is done ….the thought of reliving those first 2 weeks makes my stomach sick.
If you don't mind answering, what is she (the PT) suspecting the issue is?

Sorry, @Che. I did a quick search of the site and don't find any members who have had this occur as a result of the surgery. All of the references to knock-kneed refer to the member's condition prior to having a TKR
Agree with @benne68.
Your leg definitely looks crooked from the picture.
I was even more knock kneed- but that was before my PKR. I am pretty much straight now. My surgeon restored what he called my natural alignment- so my operated leg is now only very slightly knock kneed to match my good leg.
I think the alignment is very important, because when I was getting increasingly valgus due to the lateral knee compartment collapsing with arthritis- it caused excruciating hip and back pain.
I would get a second opinion.

Here is a member from 2017/2018 with a misaligned leg. I didn’t reread the whole thread, but I remember her, and I’m pretty sure it was a result of her surgery. She hasn‘t been on Bonesmart in a while, but you can read her thread. If you want to try to ask her anything just tag her, like this @Hood1980 here in this thread, rather than posting in her thread.

Here’s another member, see post #139 in Hood1980’s recovery thread.

And here is is Kayow11’s thread:

Hello , I had a knee replacement on Sept. 22, 2023 . As soon as I woke I notice my lower leg was crooked , angled out to the side . Is there anyone out there that this also happened and have you had a revision done and the alignment corrected . I need to hear from you ….thank you

Stopping by on this one month anniversary to see how it's going for you. Hopefully you're able to get the standing x-ray scheduled soon. Please keep us posted, Che.
@Che
Hello , I was able to get a second opinion in another city and the doctors confirmed he overcorrected the alignment and it’s not in my head . He also stated there’s more complications with revisions . I hope this has happened to someone else and they have corrected it successfully with a revision .

@Che. Please notice that I've moved your newest post from the Social room to your original recovery thread.

We ask that you have just one recovery thread because it keeps all your recovery information in one place, making it easier for us to review your history before we provide advice. If you have multiple threads, you will miss posts and advice left for you in your original thread, and some information may be unnecessarily repeated. Also, having only one thread will act as a diary of your progress that you can look back on.

So please post any updates, questions or concerns about your recovery here.

You may want to Bookmark this thread to make it easier to find. For more on how to navigate the forum, you can read through this article: https://bonesmart.org/forum/threads/how-can-i-find-my-threads-and-posts.56840/

I’m sorry , thank you for helping me …I hadn’t been on this site lately , makes perfect sense .

We have had a few members with this problem. Corrections are possible with a revision, but this is a case where you really need to get opinions from more than one surgeon who specialize in complicated revisions, This means they do a lot of these surgeries to correct problems. You may want to consider someone other than your original doctor. It sounds like you have located another surgeon. Is this the person you would have do the revision?

I know it’s a scary thought to have what you thought was going to be a perfectly good knee cut open and redone. Please try not to worry. These things do happen sometimes, but it is possible to right the error with a good surgeon. We’ll be here to help you through whatever challenges are ahead.

I’m very glad to read that you were able to get a second opinion, and he agrees that there is a problem. Personally, I would not let the original surgeon correct the problem.

”More complications with revisions” may be possible, but that is not a guarantee that there will be.

How are you feeling, and doing with your leg now, at 5 months post op? I would imagine it’s uncomfortable to walk, and difficult as well. Try to treat it gently and don’t force it to do anything it doesn’t like. Hopefully you’ll have a new plan in place soon. :console2:

Thank you , it’s still healing.

I think I’m getting better except for my right hip hurting as the alignment is off …i am able to get a referral to a revision doctor but have to wait as I’ve been told there’s more complications if they do it now . It’s mostly how it looks as it’s apparent that my lower leg looks disfigured.

How long do they want to wait?

I think, if it was me, I would seek yet another opinion, if possible, to see what a different surgeon says. They don’t all agree on what to do.

At least 6-9 months . In Canada we need referrals . My nurse practitioner told me today I need to wait a little longer but I’m going to stay on top of it .

I definitely will be travelling to Toronto Canada and only letting revision specialists touch me .

Good for you! It pays to be a strong advocate for yourself where your medical care is concerned.

I’m sorry you have to wait so long. Be careful with your knee/leg in the mean time.

Would you like us to change your title, to mention a misalignment? Maybe that will help you get more responses about it.

Thank you for the response …sure that would be helpful .

I changed your title for you. Let us know if you would prefer something different.

Thank you for your encouragement. I just received a call from a so called revision ortho surgeon who is friends with my surgeon . I really want to get it done by someone who specializes in this area . My fear is having more complications, I can’t look at my crooked leg without getting upset …when walking my dog I feel my hip is out cause alignment is off .
