THR Mayhip8's recovery thread

I had the best nights sleep ever! It's got to be down to the fantastic Friday Frivoloties ! My imagination ran away with me and all I can say is " How did we end up in Dubai!?" :heehee::rotfl:
Stay motivated and safe ladies - it won't be long before proper nights out are enjoyed
I'm going to try to get back on track today and go for a walk outside again so I'll pop back later
:walking::walking:

Wow.
Couldn't fall asleep till 230 am because my unoperated hip wouldn't settle.Grrrrrr.
Methinks @ChrissyW had a meh night
And you @Mayhip8 had finally a great night and deservedly so. We are a picture of the ups and downs of recovery!
Wish I could send this bad hip to Dubai!!!
BUT! There is light at the end of the tunnel my ladies. And in the meantime we have each other. So glad about that!

@ahipgma i echo your comments, this journey with all its ups, downs and twisty turns (well ok those need avoiding) is made easier by our little community. I'm so glad we met and bonded.
As you guessed my night was rubbish, just couldn't get to sleep or comfortable and the pesky thigh cramp/ spasmy (I think I've invented a new word) thing wouldn't go away. Ive been taking my magnesium but last night they came back and if I could have shaken my leg off I would have. I think it wanted to be out there dancing in its own way, maybe my thigh felt left out of our planning?! Glad you had a good night @Mayhip8 as it was deservedly your turn to get some sleep. Strange weather here today, warm but dull so my short trip to the supermarket (I was rewarded with ice cream) made me feel like I was having a hot flush ( maybe I was or maybe it was the subliminal memories of Dubai). Well you have a good day and hopefully we'll catch up with updates of our day later, with, I expect, a couple of naps for good measure (well our partying needs us to reenergise and how good is it to have had such fun and no hangovers, fantasy Friday's are the way forward) @Mayhip8 hope you have had a good walk and I expect the weather with you Is similar to here so hopefully you stay dry, rosy cheeked and breathe in lovely fresh air. To you both enjoy whatever you are up to my hippy sisters and I'll catch you later :loveshwr::flwrysmile:

@ChrissyW @ahipgma im so sorry you had a poor night - I probably kept you virtually dancing - it was one of my favourite tunes' " The hippy hippy shake" :yahoo:
I'll ask the sleep Angel to pass some rest on to you tonight.
Did you know they do a spray of magnesium @Chrissy? It gets absorbed better than by oral route apparently .
This Saturday afternoon has been quite warm here- - bit overcast but I managed a walk outside and seeing everyone's gardens full of bright flowers is a cheery sight
My Eldest sister came to visit me and brought home made Bara brith. A Welsh fruit loaf we had with lashings of butter and copious cups of tea! Very healing.
@ahipgma im glad you had a nice meal and night out - the good times to be enjoyed- the trying times to be endured .. We'll get there in the end meanwhile it's so good to have each other as you say . I know I couldn't have felt so supported and informed and positive without this forum and for 'meeting' our hippy group :roseshwr:

@Mayhip8 the bara brith with lashings of butter sounds yummy, better than what I thought was a treat when I got a free sample of half a frosted cupcake in the supermarket! It's been takeaway pizza for tea and I have a glass of complete alcohol free Chardonnay ( that tastes absolutely nothing like Chardonnay but it's the same colour, is in a wine glass and says alcohol free Chardonnay on the bottle means it is what it says on the label) :cheers2:now I have the pleasure (not) of the football on tv so may get my book out if it begins to feel like pulling teeth!
I will look to see if I can get the spray online, I'd never heard of it but it may be useful because I have struggled a big today. The tightening soasm like cramps that until now only came late evening appeared this afternoon alongside a pain in my groin, very close to where the pubic bone is. Iced and elevated and the pain went after about an hour but the cramping kept going for longer, but I'm living in the hope that if it has hit me already I'm going to have a better night - the power of positive thinking I'm hoping.
@ahipgma if my time 'awareness' serves me right your afternoon has just got properly started (is it just after 2.15) so as we are settling in for the evening you're just getting in to the swing of the day? What are you up to?
Well ladies, we are real globe trotters, perhaps my aches and pains are a form of jet lag from our trip to Dubai as we must have had stops in both the UK and the US on our travels.:spin:
@Mayhip8 must have been nice to catch up with your sister (especially as she came with cake) and it's always good to chat with loved ones. I wish my boys lived closer but the eldest is in London and the youngest is closer so I do get to see him more now but he's an hour away down the motorway and unfortunately doesn't drive. I'm an only child so am relatively familyless for most of the time.
Anyway, going to stop rambling, I think it's an excuse to a) avoid watching football and b) ignore my husband who is currently shouting at the referee and commentators on the football!:headbang:
Hugs to all xx:friends:

Hi, I had my hip replaced on 4/3. May I ask what kind of pain you are having? Just curious because I have a lot of muscle pain, still - and stiffness in my back. Some things have improved; other things have not.

My husband is Welsh and Welsh Cakes are a family favorite but I don't remember him speaking of Bara Brith. I must put a recipe in my back pocket as a surprise perhaps for Father's Day!

Hi @Trudijane ive posted an update on my initial thread where you posted. And @Carriemay60 i love welsh cakes but I bet I couldn't bake any ( I'm definetly no kitchen goddess!)

Hi@Trudijane I'm only 23 days post op so have muscle pain and some nerve pain where I'm guessing healing is occurring. It sort of changes from day to day depending on how mobile I have been .you are still early days in terms of healing.and further along than me - do you have any advice?
It's good you have seen things improve - I've just recently started a diary so I can track my progress - I didn't in the early days but have found it useful to see progress.
Wishing you well

@Carriemay60 its delicious! I'll pop a recipie on here if you wish? I love a Welsh cake too- really easy and quick to make - which is useful as they disappear so quickly!

the bara brith with lashings of butter

Huh...what?! Love reading some of these British descriptions. Never heard of Bara Brith but looked it up and it's definitely similar to what we call Fruit Cake. Never heard of "lashings" of butter either. Must mean generous amounts? I'm easily entertained here :heehee: I hope you enjoyed!
Wishing you a good night and pleasant Sunday!
@Mayhip8

@Mayhip8 I would love a recipe! Thank you :yes!:

@ChrissyW To be honest, my husband usually makes them in our house. I have made them a few times though and really very easy!

@Layla You are starting to suss things out quite well. Lashings does refer to a generous amount. When I first met my husband I couldn't understand him many times and if he had recently called his family in Wales, I was completely lost. The Welsh almost sing when they talk and have many sayings and words even very different from the British. He now catches me saying things that are very Welsh so I guess he's rubbed off on me!

Hahaha! Love it. @Carriemay60 I have Welsh blood running through my veins.
I'd really like to get to Wales and explore one day and of course try some Bara Brith with lashings of butter.
May be a problem though because I'n not a fruitcake fan  but of course I'd try it in honor of my U.K. friends, like @Mayhip8

Oh @Layla you can't beat a good fruit cake. Actually the only cake I can make and do so every year is a traditional Christmas cake. One year when the Italian side of the family were over they tried our Christmas cake and hated it for 2 reasons. They thought it was far too heavy and also they couldn't understand why we ate it with cheese. That bit still gets people, cake and cheese, don't knock it until you've tried it. Goodness me, it's not even 7am and now all I can think of is cake!! @Carriemay60 perhaps we should get your husband on the cake case ( I have to admit mine doesn't like fruit cake either and he doesn't bake so I have no chance of cake today, just a good old fashioned and boring cereal bar! No flipping comparison!)
@Mayhip8 and @ahipgma hiw did you sleep? My update is that it was better than Friday night thank goodness and now I know I can happily cope with the normal night of nap, walk round the room, nip to the loo, nap routine as long as there is some napping involved! :sleeep:
Happy Sunday ladies and no doubt we will catch up at some point along the way.:yahoo:

Mmmmmm cheese and fruit cake - so delicious!
Pleased to hear you had a slightly better night @ChrissyW even the smallest amount of respite has a big impact on how we feel .i slept ok ish- just had a lot of cramp and spasm in ye olde hip - I think it's jealous of its Titanium counterpart getting all the attention! Which by the way feels so much better for having scar massage 3 X dally and for the first time I can actually not feel the arthritis pain ( beyond the post op muscle pain if that makes sense?) when I move it
Last night my eldest daughter came to visit so we all piled into my nest room ( with my 2 teen children) and had a jolly fun time with them showing me snapchat filters, updating me on the latest trends, news, jokes-I sat amongst them in some sort of drugged up brain fog surreal world ( picture the bed from Charlie and the chocolate factory scene)!!
Today I am on my own as girl children left last night to have a sleepover and go to the Trafford centre on a shop fest today and the males of the house have gone to a classic car show.
So who knows what the day will bring?!
@Carriemay60 I love your description of the welsh accent - my father was Welsh and We spend a huge amount of our free times in all areas of Wales as we have friends and family there . We all speak Welsh to a fair degree as I taught my children from an early age -I'm immensely proud of my heritage.I will post the recipes later -the Welsh cakes and Bara Brith are my grandmothers recipie
Well I'm off for a mooch about now - my keyboard skills are improving and I've been able to learn the first few chords and keys of moonlight sonata( my aim is to learn it and play it by 12 weeks post op-I'm not a pianist !) The poor neighbours !!!
Have a Sunny Sunday and I'll pop by later
Is it a full Sunday lunch type of day ? Trimmings? Pudding?
:tada::flwrysmile:

Can't be Sunday without some form of Sunday lunch. Roast chicken at mine if someone wants to bring the pudding? Oh how I'd love a sticky toffee pudding with butterscotch sauce yum yum but if anyone has any other preferred old school pudding I'm up for that too:happydance:

Stuffing? Yorkshire pudding ( controversial!!)
I'll bring Apple crumble and custard/cream / ice cream...
Oh! And some of those gold encrusted petit fours you enjoyed in Dubai? :heehee:

Actually a back to hips for a tic
Since early this morning I've had this uncontrollable compulsion and it goes from my lower back into my hips/,buttocks thighs and lower legs like waves - wanting to stretch - like maybe a cat might do when it wakes up?
It's kind of like an energy surge - it's not altogether uncomfortable but it's like I can't control it?!
Weird !!
has anyone else experienced anything similar ?
