Bilateral TKR Made it to the other side

Hope the transfusion did the trick Kare2dare!

The transfusion should help a lot. I had very low Hg, but didn't get a transfusion. Felt light-headed and weak Until a month later, when my body had finally replaced the lost blood. I bet you feel better already.

Yesterday's milestones- blood transfusion went well. Blood levels back to normal and no light-headedness and the first BM post-op! Felt like a little kid with all the praise and "good job"S lol! Plus I got about 4 whole hours of sleep. Today will be back to PT. Pain seems well managed. Still not sure if I will be going home or to rehab- waiting to see if insurance will ok it or how things progress today.

Ok so the answer is- send her home. Stairs seem to go ok and everything else is working so I am ready for the next phase. That phase will include a shower! Oh that will be a happy day!

Oh, that first shower feels good! You'll rest so much better at home, too. if you can, keep the stairs to a minimum, twice a day. They're doable at first, but not exactly fun.

That first shower is going to feel so good! It will tire you out for the day, but it will be worth it.

Great news @Kare2dare ! I will be following your progress with great interest ! How long is the drive to your home? My ergotherapist told my on Friday (operation day) that I could shower on Monday in the hospital. I have not forgotten that !

Another brave woman getting both knees replaced at once. Admirable.
Wishing you all the best for a good and steady recovery!
I didn't get to try doing steps until day 6 and that was only one knee! (It was a long holiday weekend and no physio people around)
Brava!

Best to you. I had btkr in late Feb. you are on your way already. One day at a time. Glad you got the lightheadedness under control and are felling better. Stay ahead of pain with med.

Best to you.

Decided to brave the stairs up to the bedroom last night. The thought of being in my own bed made me very brave indeed. Not the most graceful but made it up and will now be up here for a couple of days. My husband deserves a medal for putting up with all my indecisiveness- I need a pillow, not that one, more ice, no less ice! He's a trooper! I just don't think you can be absolutely comfortable at this stage.

I decided to the only place I was comfortable was a hospital bed. For some reason I slept in a hospital bed and was comfortable throughout the day.

I went upstairs and stayed up there for the first few days at home. Being in my own bed felt like being home. It was just "right" somehow. Mr. Shoes, of course, had to make ice runs for me, and bring my meals. It helped that I have a bed that raises and lowers the foot and head, so I could position myself in a variety of ways. FInding a comfortable position isn't always easy those first weeks.

I went upstairs upon arriving home from the hospital and didn't come down for over a week! I feel safe and comfy there.

How have you been doing with sleeping kare2dare?

@Kare2dare, I hope you are doing okay at home with pain and rest. Ha ha, I'm laughing. I re read my sentence. I had written I hope you are doing okay at home with sin and rest. Auto correct...pain and sin aren't close in typos. Glad I checked before I sent. Hopefully that gave you a little smile, hee hee.:giggle:
.

Gotta love auto correct! @becticu I am actually having a good day today- if you call sleeping the day away good!?! Last night was not great. Lots of lower leg cramps. They were happy as long as I was massaging them but as soon as I stopped they would just get so tight. They seem to be a lot happier today which has let me sleep. I also got my dr. Lounge wedge in the mail today which really has let me elevate correctly. Even with pillows, I think my knees were too bent before. @nensi the hardest part of sleeping for me (besides the cramping last night) has been not being able to sleep on my side! One more thing to look forward too! My knees are pretty warm but not a lot of swelling. I do have quite a bit of bruising on the backs of my knees-

Congrats on getting to the other side and also getting home where you can be more comfortable. I hate to be a bearer of bad news but side sleeping may not be in your immediate future as many of us have struggled with that. But as you said, something to look forward to - for me it was a recovery milestone (now if I could just actually fall asleep while on my side ;-). Isn't the bruising amazing - I kept taking pictures as I couldn't believe it and the colors changed every day. Keep up the positive attitude and continued good wishes in recovery.

It was around week 4 before I was able to sleep on my side for a short time (probably an hour). I laid on my right side, placing my left leg over my RTKR. It didn't last long, but felt great!
