Mamarey, it is perfectly normal to feel irritable, it is another form of the post op blues..

You are so early in your recovery and have family responsibilities, all of which are playing heavy on your mind.. Be gentle with yourself honey.. You are truly doing fine.. :)

Have a good cry, come here and vent... We all understand and have and still do go through the same feelings.. yes, hand it over :)

I'm with the girls Mamarey. Wish I could come over with a meal and have a cuppa with you. I suffered with the blues. It's not nice. You've had major surgery, but because you don't look like you have, people forget. Just remember, things will get better.

Mamarey I too agree with the girls. Sweetie, things will get better I promise, sooner than you probably even thing. You have gone through so much, more than some of us. I wish I could reach out and hug you, saying "you are one strong women and you're gonna make it". Don't be afraid to ask for help from family, friends and maybe close neighbors sometimes they are more than willing to help.

Are you feeling better today Mamarey ? Cherish it if you are :) I had another cranky spell this am, so I know how it is to have difficulty "letting go". Wish we had a "cuppa tea for two" smilie :)

zauberflöte You and Mamarey could have a cuppa of tea together. Set a time both could be on together go to the social room. Crank away!!! I have a funny feeling you both will feel better by doing so. Or send a virtual cup
of tea!

Still trying to manage the pain schedule. I have been doing fine on every 12 hours for the most part. Last night, I went upstairs at 8:00, my normally time for my pain pill (Lortab), I was not feeling any pain, so I did not take anything. Well, at 11:00, I woke up in horrific pain. Took my pill, but it took two hours for the pain to subside. Any advise? I do not want to take something which I do not need, yet it is difficult to know when out of nowhere pain will strike. Still feeling quite achy and sore in my groin this morning. Been a tough few days

Mamarey, this is the very reason we say in the mantra to take your meds on a schedule. Just because it's time for meds and you're not in pain at that moment doesn't mean you should skip the pill. It is important to stay ahead of the pain---so that you are not in pain. Putting it off for an hour might make sense, but to just ignore taking meds is a BIG NO NO!

If you want to try taking them every 5 hours instead of four, that's okay---but don't skip a dose---you see what happens if you do.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

Mamarey I'm sorry the pain caught you last night - of all nights, when you were already feeling low. bottomshollow 's advice is good- to get the pain before it gets you, because once it does, it's really hard to catch up to it again. I've spent a few days chasing after pain. It's very discouraging.
I hope you're doing better today. You've been through alot and things will improve for you. Try to keep your spirits up even though it's all a challenge now.

Thank you again for all the kind and loving support. Still hurting quite a bit today...did not do much, but did go to Target with my daughter, as my computer printer failed...worked on it all morning, had a tech come out to check it out, and the blasted thing, only a year out was bad....sooooo, off I went to replace my printer...$89.00 for tech visit and another hundred for a printer, I am once again up and running. This whole week has been incredibly frustrating and depressing, and I know, that this too shall pass. While at Target, I was trying on a pair of sandals, with my daughters help, and while lifting my leg, my groin really pulled in a painful way...so now the pain is more pain on pain...amazing how healing can be so incredibly strong one day, and actually for days at a time, then go downhill in an instant...
Patience, Acceptance, Letting Go, Stop....rest, ice, elevate...................

Mamarey Ouch! I feel for you. So sorry you've had rotten luck for the past few days! Take it easy and let that pain subside. It's tender and healing, give yourself some TLC and rest up. Sending good wishes your way... Hope tomorrow's a better day for you!

Mamarey, I can identify, I crashed really badly over the money thing. I tried to get a whole lot of things done before I went back to work, plumber, builder, fireplace repair, tax return. And as I looked at these things I could feel the black cloud descending over a matter of days and one day just couldn't stop crying. A friend helped me to see that most of it wasn't urgent and I could leave them for a while. I put it all aside and in the last few weeks have been able to work a little bit on these without feeling like they are going to crush me. I agree with BarbaraR, pay what you need to now, but put aside what you can deal with later. You will feel a lot stronger in yourself in a few weeks. The same friend pointed out to me that major surgery has an effect on our brain chemistry as well. I hope you are felling a bit better today.

Sweetie, you are just doing way too much way too soon! You are just 3 weeks post op, and there's a ton of healing that is still going on and will be for a while. I know that the surgery has taken away the pain you were suffering before, and as a result you are feeling much, much better. But your hip and your body in general are not ready for a lot of "normal" activity. I'm very much afraid that boredom is the order of the day.

Get back to following the mantra---REST, ELEVATE, ICE, and MEDS ON A SCHEDULE. Please find the PATIENCE to give your hip the TIME it needs to heal. I can tell you that TIME & PATIENCE are the key to a good recovery with the least pot holes to navigate---they are the secret and ultimate weapon to succeed.

Take care and keep us posted. We care.

THANK YOU...FOR PUTTING ME IN MY PLACE...I have been in a lot of pain the last few days...and as I look back, I have basically been getting around like nothing took place...walking, for the most part without a cane, on my own, walking on treadmill...laundry, cleaning, etc...what the Heck is wrong with me??? Well, it is just me, looking out for me, and I am my worst enemy. as my Mother said, she was in bed for three weeks, granted, she was much older, 1 3 years ago, posterior, not anterior, but still...my Mom has never been one to sit idle , and have someone take care of her...jeez........apple does not fall far from the tree.
Happy, sad today. Mom and Dad came over for dinner...my brother and my niece and nephew came too, unexpectedly...was so nice, but I was hurting so much. Wake up call for me, to let go, surrender to where I truly am in recovery, not where I think I am...it is simply more difficult when there is not someone looking out for you, a significant other supervising recovery...so many lessons to be learned at middle age

Try this on for size, Mamarey. It's probably a new concept to an A type personality, but it's just what's needed for the next couple of months at least. Recovery should be looked in weeks not days. Just be glad you didn't get a knee done---it takes even longer than a hip.
You can't rush the time it takes to heal---and you probably look GREAT on the outside---but it's what you can't see that 's going to require a lot of time.
[Bonesmart.org] Life and freedom on the recovery side
and keep this one in mind, too. Remember how long it took you to get in the shape that required surgery, you'll be amazed at how much faster getting over it is.

Don't beat yourself up over all this---Your reaction to feeling so much better is pretty "normal" and you have lots of company. Life is constant teacher of lessons for all of us. I have found that getting old has a lot of draw backs but the best thing about it to me is that I have learned not to sweat the small stuff---and it's all small stuff!

Be good to yourself---REST, elevate, ice, and take your pain meds.

Mamarey. I am a week further along than you, although lateral. I find that I go in a good day, bad day cycle. Maybe it's as everyone says and I do too much on the "good" day, and then pay for it the next. Saturday evening I walked four blocks to meet a friend from high school for her birthday dinner. Brought pillows, sat in chair, didn't expend energy from my point of view but spent yesterday light-headed and exhausted. This recovery is just not linear. Take care, it sounds like you are on an upward trajectory.

Could not agree more. I am glad that I am seeing the OS's PA on Wednesday. I need to go back and rely on my cane and slow it all down.
Happy Memorial Day everyone. Beautiful day here in Michigan.

Mamarey. Glad you are having a beautiful day. Please send any extra warmth and sunshine East. We need all the help we can get. Had frost just outside NYC again last night.

LeeApril26...the East usually gets our weather, as we get Chicago's. It is not overly warm, think only 66 today, but the sun makes such a difference. It is supposed to warm up this week and get back into the 80's

Mamarey. Oh, yeah! Soon please. I am the only person I know who is happy in a NYC August-hot and humid means nothing hurts!
