Congratulations on making it through to the other side, Mamarey! You have waited so long. But now it's onward and upward, toward recovery and not being in that painful holding pattern you were in. So great about the shower, too!

Mamarey Suzanne, I looked and looked for this thread last night, I don't know how I missed it unless i was just crosseyed! I am SO HAPPY that it's over with, and you are on the recovery trail now. The pain will get managed (give the nurses a sales pitch...LOL) and the prune juice will do its thing, and you will go home to your kids and the long road ahead will be that of recovery, not of pain :) :)

Yippeeeee, I get to go home today. Today is the first day I feel positive change in my leg. Still cannot lift it, but have greater strength and less pain. There is no place like home sweet home:))))
Will have to be careful with my doggies jumping all over me. :puppysmooze: :kittykiss: :dancy:

Mamarey, Good to hear you are going home :yay: You will feel much better in your own surroundings. You can go with your own schedule instead of all the disruption of being in hospital. Glad to hear the leg is easing up a bit .
Your dogs will be pleased to see you too. Have you got a tray or table that goes over your chair so they cant jump on your leg? my cat always seems to land on my hip and he's pretty heavy.
Happy Healing Barbara

Mamarey oh home sweet home! You'll find a jumprope or bathrobe tie or something to lift your leg, and the dogs will be happy to be footstools (ok, maybe not...) and the pain will wane... so happy for you!!!!!!! :) :)
Your post is so full of life-- what I imagine the real you sans arthritis pain to be :)

Day 4, and so happy to be home. I came home yesterday, and was very nauseous and exhausted, so spent the afternoon in bed. So nice to be home, but very exhausting getting there.
Felt so good to sleep in my own bed. Took my last pain med @ 10:00 pm, and did not take another one until 5:00 am. Got out of bed at 8:00 am, took another pain med, and have not had one since, and have been up and about, scooting around ever since. Home nurse came today, and she said all looks well, just a little redness on my incision.
The thing that causes me the most pain is getting in and out of bed, as excruciating as prior to surgery, because I am still unable to lift my left leg. It is a bit frustrating to drop something and have to go find my grabber, but over all, I think I am progressing quite well for 4 days out.

No skimping on the pain meds, you won't be a happy camper if you have to play "catch up" when a gnawing ache sets in in the middle of the night at some point.

Are you able to spend a bit more time sitting upright, maybe a chair with a couple additional cushions, instead of a lot of in and out of the bed?

It is a drag when stuff gets dropped on the floor -- shove it all over in to one area and call for one of your daughters to pick it up if you can wait. :)

Glad you are home and doing well!! :thumb:
Take care,
Cardie

Welcome home Mamarey! I'll bet it feels good to sleep in your own bed and be on your own schedule instead of the hospital's! Take those pain meds and don't forget to elevate and ice!

It certainly is great to go home. I couldn't get over how quiet it was, hospitals are so noisy. You are doing well for four days, just remember to take it easy and rest a lot at this stage, and ice at every opportunity.

Mamarey You are doing great for 4 days. Are you using a walker? I placed my grabber across the bars of my walker that way it was always with me. It is fustrating when we keep dropping something and the grabber is in another room. Everyday will get easier with the leg, it will take time to raise it on its own. Use a belt from a bath robe, a neck tie and lasso it around the bottom of your foot and lift it that way. It took me about a week or so to really get in and out of bed in a timely fashion.

Mamarey good report from the home front!! I agree with everybody who says rest, ice, elevate, don't fall behind on pain meds :) but I have to love this "scooting around". I almost imagine you on your behind on the floor, skootching along..... maybe "scooting" is a Minnesota "dialect" thing?
How are your daughters helping out? Daily goodies? Scrub the floor Flowers? :) :)

Hi Mamarey

Glad to hear you are back home you will feel tired and exhausted some good days then you may feel tired a few days later just your body adjusting to your new hip. best place to go when you are feeling tired is your bed as it gives your body better support rather than the settee. Mind and ice and when you are all systems go take things slowly small steps.

Day 6...I learned a little lesson about balance yesterday. I went 12 hours without any pain medicine, and when I got into bed at 8:00 P.M., I was in terrible pain, and it took a couple of hours to subside. I woke at 1:00 A.M., and took another pill. Lesson learned, is that I do best on medicating about every 8 hours. I slept on my non-surgical right side last night, and it felt wonderful! Cannot believe how much better I am sleeping. It is taking longer to fall asleep, which is the normal me, but my quality of sleep is improving daily. The weeks prior to surgery, I fell asleep right away, because I never really went into a deep sleep.
I also find that I am beginning to smile and laugh again. I feel like my body is beginning to wake up and blossom, just like the spring weather. Feeling a little emotional too, get teary eyed just thinking about the things I am grateful for. So many life lessons come through pain.

What a positive start Mamarey.
Sounds like you are doing well. The lessons learnt re pain meds happen to all of us! Bit of a roller coaster this recovery but the end result will be worth it. The happy/ reflective moods seem part of the process it seems. Take care!

Mamarey It sounds like you are doing great for less than one week out. Every day you'll see an improvement - even if its a small one, but it sounds like you are seeing plenty of improvements already as you are sleeping better and beginging to feel like the old you. The only way is up. :dancy:
