Mamarey, it's great for the spirit to be out and about even if its just a trip for groceries and other necessities.

bottomshollow, I love your wee pics popping up here and there! :)

Well, today is day four, and I went to the gym and had a short weight workout. No lower body, just upper body, and less reps. Been since the day before surgery since I was last at the gym. Felt oh so good to be slowly going back to normal activities. I cannot wait until I can begin cardio workouts and get really sweaty. Miss that so much. Hopefully, next week after I see my OS, I can begin that new chapter.

Mamarey, you are sounding so upbeat and happy!!! Quite different from last week. Great to know that surgery has had such a positive impact for you.

Take care and keep us posted. We care. [Bonesmart.org] Life and freedom on the recovery side

Mamarey you know many people are still in the hospital at day 4!!! And look at you all going to the gym :) You are indeed sounding much more upbeat-- must be the all-gone pain! :)

Mamarey .... Awesome!! You're putting us all to shame. Well, me especially. I was still in hospital day 4, and walking with crutches.

Must be a typo. I went to the gym on Sunday which was day 12, which is still very good progress. Yesterday I walked a mile on the treadmill, and today I did 1.5! Slow, but felt good. Legs getting stronger. Down to just my cane. Gave up commode too. Beginning to feel like my ol self, but a better restored version

Mamarey Wow! I can't believe your incredible progress! You're 2 weeks and going to the gym and shopping already. That's wonderful for you. I would say that you're making an excellent recovery. Keep up the good work, it's heartening to hear how well you're doing. Watch out world, here she comes! :)

I know that people talk about post-surgical depression, what about post-surgical irritability?
I have been so irritable the last few days, and I cannot blame it on PMS, because I don't have PMS anymore.
I don't know whether my not sleeping well is having an affect, or what is going on. I should be feeling happy, not irritable since I am healing well, and slowly but surely doing more and even exercising. Has anyone else gone through this irritable stage?

Mamarey, I guess I felt frustration. Not sure if that's the same as irritability. I was frustrated because in my mind I felt I could do things but my body wasn't up to it. Hopefully it will pass - you are doing so well.
(p.s. I'm chatting on-line with new guy as I write this:whistle: )

Mamarey. That sounds like how I feel. I am sick of the whole thing. HATE the pillow between my legs at night, and not bending, and not bEing able to put things in the oven and . . . Too much to list. When my PT said today that I would probably have to continue sleeping on my back with the pillow between my legs for at least another month I felt like throwing something. It will be a month tomorrow and I am grateful that the bone pain is gone, but I am really impatient with my recovery even though it is apparently going well. Sorry for the rant. Maybe we would both be better of with a big cry???

I suspect it's the lack of sleep--you don't have bending or sleeping restrictions, right? Try to be good to yourself--this, too, shall pass. Also, is it possible you are overdoing? I'm really impressed with your strength and stamina--no way could I have walked over a mile at the 2 week mark-- could you be pushing yourself too hard?

Mamarey Irritability can be a sign of a little depression, too. Even though you're recovery is going well, you've still been through major surgery that was hard on your body, you had blood loss, and you had anesthesia and pain meds that affect your mood and nervous system. Plus, you're not sleeping well - that alone can make anyone crabby. :skep:
You're still very early on in your recovery, so your body's busy healing and it could be having an energy drain that may be showing up as irritability. Perhaps it's an emotional energy drain you're experiencing.
Also, is it possible you are overdoing?
That is a good point. You may feel like you want to do so much to get back to normal quicker, but maybe you need to go a bit easier? Your body is at the beginning stages of the healing process, and that takes alot of energy!

It'll pass, Mamarey. :) Just rest as much as you can - it'll give your mind and body a chance to recover.
There's some info in the forum about energy drain. If you search up in the box at the top, you'll find it. It helped me understand what I was going through post-op!
Hope you sleep better tonight!

Irritated? Blame it on the full moon coming up!!! I swear by the full moon, and I'd bet that has a lot to do with you being irritated at the world. Hang in there, this too, shall pass! *I have a pregnant horse that was due mid May, and I swear she's going to wait 'til Saturday to have it....which is also the same day as my daughter's wedding..... blame it on the full moon!!!! (the full moon is actually on the 25th, FYI)

Thank you all...It all is hitting me like the tornado that hit Oklahoma. I have gone from irritability, to now crying as I type this. I guess I am feeling really alone and tired. Yes, my three kids and dogs are here, but no one seems to care about me and what I am going through. I continue to live paycheck by paycheck, pay bill after bill, and lucky me, now the hospital bills are coming in...my whole life consists of taking care of everyone else....feel like now like I want to run away from home...I never go on vacation, no money to do that...come July, it is back to work and all of my other nonstop responsibilities...I live my life selflessly, and truly try my best to Let go, Let God, live one day at a time, but I guess the "****" is hitting the fan at this moment :(((((((((((((((((((((((((((((

Mamarey, if I lived near you, I'd come over and give you a big hug and make you some food. (I'm a pretty good cook and baker!) The hospital bills can wait! Just put them aside till you can deal with them--just make sure your rent and utilities are paid so nothing gets turned off. This is not the time to be selfless. Please take care of yourself. Is there a friend or family member who can come over and help out? You just had major surgery and you need time to heal. We get so accustomed to taking care of others... your kids are older teens, right? Surely they can help you, too. (I took Benadryl to sleep for about a month after surgery. it was a lifesaver. I still take it occasionally if I have a bad night or two. Maybe that will help you. Sleep deprivation can make you crazy.) I hope you feel better soon. XO

Awwwww Mamarey  It's awful feeling so alone after all you've been through. I'm sorry the blues are hitting you so hard now. You do take care of everyone, and I'm sure you do an excellent job of it. It doesn't seem fair to you, I know. I agree with BarbaraR - let the bills go for now. Just focus on yourself and feeling better. Ask the kids to help, tell them how you feel. They're big enough to pitch in and nurture you a little.
And you're not alone. I don't know what support you have near you, but we're all here for you. Even though we can't cook a meal or run an errand for you, we care and will listen to you and help you out however we can. You'll get through this. You're strong and have managed so well this far. This is one of the bumps along the road to recovery. We've all been through it, and we've gotten past it. You will, too. I promise.
Keep posting, everyone here wants to help you feel better.:console2:

Has anyone else gone through this irritable stage?
Well yes, in fact, just today in fact!
I reamed out a home health person for a reason that is only meaningful to me myself. And I'm only 2 days past! I figured it might be the tramadol withdrawal as well. You just relax, rest during the day, and then less sleep at night won't be a deal-breaker.
