I learned a valuable lesson when I had my hysterectomy (1980) - most of the women were doing the "ward shuffle" which was moving slowly, slightly bent over with one hand clutched to their stomach. Having watched them during my allocation to gynae wards, I determined right from the start that I wasn't going to do that. So I got up, stood up - straight - and made myself walk normally. I found it was no more or less uncomfortable than doing the ward shuffle! So I did pretty much the same thing when I had my knee done and found, obviously to a lesser degree, that the same applied. I think that, given obvious constraints, the same can apply after a THR.
