Bahaaaaaaa!!

I'm proud of my morphine buzz and loopy typing skills now!! Even my close friends the last 48 hrs have been humored on Facebook apparently I've been ms chirpy chirpy LOVE! I can be a grumpy pants at times!

Sandy yes you are right I don't feel the bone to bone at all it's nice! Girliend I got dizzy first time getting up and little dizzy walking 2nd time, I also think a little nerves play into this too it's scary in one sense. I just had a good walk and feel stronger already plus can slide into bed with no help.

Keep on doing! Oh I miss my morphine, don't miss dry mouth though.

xxooxx

Hi girlienerd and Sarah, yep the nerves plays a part in those first few steps. I had a very interesting conversation with my OS one morning when I was still in ICU and was unable to move for 5 days. The nurses had tried using a torture looking contraption called a roll log to roll me over to give me a back rub. But I was so scared because it meant that my operated leg would cross the midline. Well when my OS came in shortly after he knew that there was something wrong because I wasn't as he out it - you are not your perky self. It took him a few attempts to get me to talk and eventually he twitted that I thought the hip might have dislocated! He then very gently explained without the gory details about the angles that he moves the operated leg during surgery far out way any position I would ever even attempt or need to move my leg. I perked up after that and thought I really do have a RoboHip and was not anxious about moving after that - all within reason of course. Xx

I got up for the 2nd time today for the PT, still dizzy but I just took it super slow. Trying to remember to keep everything below 90 degrees is hard! Rider, I'm off the morphine as of this morning but my blood count is pretty low. Just one point above transfusion level and my surgeon really doesn't want to give the blood for fear of weakening my immune system. If its not better tomorrow they'll do it though. I'm pretty tired all the time but I know that's to be expected, just wish I could sleep better. Tomorrow is group PT at the gym so I'm getting mentally prepared.

Lou, I haven't noticed the length yet, i'm so dependent on the walker and have been putting limited weight on my left leg. Can't wait to feel the difference though!

Do you mean your hands are shaking when sitting or lying down or when you are weight bearing on the walker?

My hands didn't shake but every time I use walker I get very clammy, sweaty which makes me nervous! Through all my giggles please know I'm moving super slow definitely not as confident as Kevin & Anita's videos. My gut is telling me fear plays into this too it's that china doll feeling that maybe ou coud break! Today did better getting in and out of bed but again slow like little old lady and that's the fun part I'm in no rush I just don't want to hurt!

Girlienerd - I need your name please :)

I just asked my nurse and she said ask for ice right now you need that 24 hrs all the time, she then said that's why I have no swelling.

I said about your shaky and she asked if your blood was low see you had wrote this earlier I LOVE great nurses!

I lost very little blood so didn't have that issue! Hope they fix that soon for
you!

Sleep well I'm sure your doing well xxooxx

Just one thought depending on your scar site, they might have to put a sheet in between site doesn't freeze bite your skin, I would rather have against skin that's how good it feels. Sandy had been a huge advocate for ice see I was copying her :>)

Janet that is funny about pain pills trying weaker first. I was always ok with Vicodin but not this time and after today wasn't going to stay on it, my intern dr is lovely and changed. It's already kicking in so nap time soon!

Yes, I don't know why there is such a hang up in the US about ALL of us becomming drug addicts because we need some narcotics after our bones have been sawed apart and then hammered back together ...

Sorry, I just get really ticked off about this!

Ditto!!! The drugs they have me on now are doing nothing. I need something stronger to help me stretch this stupid psoas that is keeping me from walking normally. The pain in my back, abs, thy, butt isn't horrid but uncomfortable enough that I can't bend my knee when I walk. I walk like I have a board stuck you know where. When I was taking hydrocodone I was walked a lot better. I'm TICKED off with you Janet. I'm praying I can get my GP to take over my pain management.

When I saw my GP yesterday, she didn't have a problem with the Meds even though they are narcotics. My issue is that you can only get a very limited amount, so they run out.

I must admit I am not taking them all, don't seem to need them. I seem to have been one of the lucky one's that regular Panadol seems to work. I was only taking two three times a day, but GP said I could take them four times.

I still think because I use ice practically all the time, hubby says 'your body sucks the cold out of the ice packs' I believe this has helped enormously with the reduced pain Meds. Even in hospital I didn't need the regular doses.

They also think that because I was off all pain Meds for two months prior to surgery because of my kidney issue, a little seems to go a long way...

p.s. I wouldn't want to not have the stronger Meds on hand though just in case :)

LisaP I so sympathize with the pain you are having with your psoas muscle, it must be so frustrating and stressful. Pain in that muscle seem to be the pits... Hang in there, fingers crossed time will heal :)

Lisa, I thought you had been getting the meds from your GP! The OS's can only dispense them for just so long, hospital policy here, and then it is up to the GP to take over.

I don't know how I would have survived like this without my GP understanding and knowing me, knowing I am not using them for anything except the ongoing and unexplained femur pain since my THR.

I think you really need to call him/her. Recovery, PT, exercise, etc., goes so much easier with the proper pain managemen as well as all the ICE AND ELEVATION!

Thank you Smja and Janet. I have a question for you Janet... what type of pain meds do you take and what doses?

Girlie... have your hands stopped shaking?

Girlienerd - I also had trouble with my hands shaking, it was almost as if I was shivering from cold even though I was not feeling cold. The shaking definitely coincided with the period of time in the hospital when my blood count was low. Once they gave me back a pint the shaking, fatigue, headache and nausea all stopped.

Sarah -- Don't go comparing yourself to any one. Remember, my first video was 5 days after surgery. Focus on passing your own small milestones for now, progress will speed up over time. @DallasSarah:

Lisa, I take Oxycodone APAP 5/325 (Percocet which is 5mg Oxycodone and 325mg Tylenol). My prescription is for 2 tablets, 3 times aday.
