Hi Betsy,

Good Morning from Dublin at about 8:30 am. Have taken 2 Tylex at 8:15 am and waiting a bit before starting my morning at home exercise programme. See my PT this afternoon at 1:30 pm, so hope that Flexion will have been increased from 95 degrees from last week.

We seem to still be the same at 95 degrees, hopefully we will both be hitting and maintaining 100 degrees soon.

Like your suggestion about sitting in the chair and pulling back with the dog leash, will use the belt from my bathrobe, as no longer have a doggie.

Have pain & discomfort all the time, just in varying degrees. The Tylex contain 30mg of Codeine & 500mg of Paracetamol and my GP/PCP has given me a seven day prescription. Take 2 tablets every 8 hours & they take the edge off the pain.

Hope to be driving at the end of week 8 post- op.

Wishing you a relaxing & pain free Labor Day !

Good Morning Jackie, Laurie and Janet,

My 1-1 PT and the Hospital PT measure Flexion this way, they have me (And all the other patients) sit at the end of the treatment couch and hang both legs over and then flexing back under the treatment couch, measure once with just me pushing the leg back and measure and then using my non-operated leg over the TKR leg - push back as far as I can and then take another measurement.

Extension is measured with me lying on my back on the treatment couch and extend the leg and try to get it as flat as possible.

Seeing my 1-1 PT this afternoon at 1:30 pm and will ask her to measure both and let you know the results later.

Take care and enjoy your Labor Day,
Cathie

Hi Laurie,

What are you doing up at 4:30 am on Labor Day.
It is now 9:45 am in Dublin, so have had shower & breakfast and catching up on emails before I start my morning at home PT exercises.

See my 1-1 PT at 1:30 pm today, so will count that as my second PT session today.

Take care,
Cathie

Hi Jackie,

Have been practicing the foot slide under the table, we also have hard wood floors and have added putting a plastic bag under the foot, as it the slide .

See my 1-1 PT at 1:30 pm today and will be interested in seeing if she sees an improvement.

Take care,
Cathie :yay:

Hello all,

Today is September 1 and going to a Wedding on Friday 19 and plan to enjoy the day and maybe even get on the dance floor for a little boogie -with my one cane! :yahoo:

My own son was married on 14 June 2014 and did manage a few spins around the dance floor and at that time was on two crutches pre-surgery !

Like to have goals, so my goal is Flexion at 100 degrees or plus and good extension for the Wedding.

Our fourth wedding this year and a few more to come.

"Love is in the air" !

Take care,
Cathie :loveshwr:

I have decides not to worry about the numbers
The biggest reason I worry about it is I'm afraid my OS won't do my other leg until this one is able to take over most of the duties for awhile.

My you are on early its 430 am here what time in Dublin
Cathie is 5 hours ahead of east coast time, I believe.

@marmora Weddings can be a lot of fun! Our oldest son celebrated his 2nd wedding anniversary yesterday. They had a big, full blown, fancy wedding. I'm not a fancy person at all so I was a little intimidated going into it as the mother of the groom but we ended up having a great time. Our younger son will be married 6 years in October. They got married in Las Vegas and including the bride and groom there were only 8 of us in attendance. It wasn't a tacky Vegas wedding. They got married beside a beautiful lake in a really pretty setting. That was a wonderful time too. And any excuse for me to go to Las Vegas is a good excuse :thumb:

Hi @marmora. I've just been catching yo on your thread. How fun it will be to have all three boys together. Having family together is always a good thing. Enjoy!!! Anne

Hi Janet, Anne & Jackie & Betsy and Laurie,

Good Evening at 10:00 pm from Dublin,

The quad exercises seemed to be helping, at my PT session this afternoon, got to 105 degrees! :happydance:
Didn't think that I would break the 100 degrees until at least another week.

My PT also recommended the step exercise that Steve does - with putting the TKR leg on the second step and lunging gently into it and hold for 5 seconds. It is one that I can do throughout the day, as I am going up and down the stairs. :egypdance:

Also using a plastic bag on my TKR foot when sitting at the kitchen table and helps to slide the foot back & forth much easier.

Janet @gr82cu2 , I can understand your concern with the recovery of your LTKR at end of July and next TKR scheduled for November and your OS wanting to be sure that the July TKR can take on the star responsibility when you have the second TKR. I'm sure that Jackie @tiredwife will provide you with support and answers, as Steve had his. TKRs 10 weeks apart.

Like you, loved our son's wedding in June )middle son, but first to get married).it was lovely and simple and very relaxed. the Bride is from Norway and 54 Norwegians descended on Dublin for 7 days - it was like the Viking invasion all over again. But, this time the Vikings were invited to Dublin !
Have 2 more sons so maybe two more weddings in the future.

My spirits are up after PT today, but also realise that they can come down too.
We TKR people do have to take it only one day at a time!

Take care,
Cathie

@DianeJ

Hi Diane,

Hope that you had a chance to rest & recharge over your Labor Day weekend.
It's a long road we are all travelling, but having travelling companions makes the journey a whole lot easier.

Take care,
Cathie

Hi Marmora,
Just stopping by to see how you are getting along. Congrats on breaking 105! No rushing it, ROM continues to improve over time.
But, this time the Vikings were invited to Dublin
Careful my Paternal Grandmother is from around Leeds, she is a direct descendant of the Vikings. Or so they say about the family history.

Whoohoo! Congrats on 105!! You go girl!!! Every little degree makes a difference in what we are able to do. :yahoo:

@marmora Cathie, that is wonderful you got to 105 in your ROM - when you make a big improvement it really makes you feel good! :yes!: At times, our progress seems to creep along or not go anywhere at all and then a big breakthrough like that really lifts your spirits, and makes all that hard work so worth it!! Keep up the good work! I also have found the quad exercises to be very beneficial.

I do the exercise you mentioned of my RTKR knee up on the step above the other one and leaning into it. I do 10 reps and hold for 5 sec. Sometimes it takes a few days to work your way up to more reps.

Thanks for asking about my weekend - it was terrific and did get some good rest! I'll be going to the PT tomorrow, so hope that I have made some ROM progress, too!

Diane

Good Morning from Dublin,
@Pumpkln

Hi Chris,

Thank you for the good wishes on getting to 105.

Vikings are always welcome !
My husband and I are both blond and with blue eyes, so the theory is that the blond and red hair Irish will have been descended from the Vikings that invaded Ireland over 1000 years ago.

And hopefully, in the future we will have "little Viking grandchildren" !

In Dublin and around the coast many ancient Viking sites have been and are being discovered.
Ireland has a rich Viking history and one of the most popular Dublin tourist attractions is the "Viking Splash Tour"

Hi Janet, Jackie, Laurie and Anne,

Great sleep last night and slept through from about 12:30 am to 6:45 am !
Feeling refreshed and sky looks clear and only slight chance of showers today.

Hope that you all had a good night also, as we all know, sleep patterns certainly are dictated by our TKR and get very disrupted.

Plan today is to walk to the Therapy pool -it is in a Primary/Grade school for children with physical disabilities and they open their therapy pool on Monday & Tuesday afternoon for one hour for post TKR, THR and other injuries. They don't provide a PT session, you do your own routine, but do provide a lifeguard. The maximum depth is 4 feet and no steps to get into the pool, it is a gradual decline into the very warm water.
Have to check, it is open this week or next week. As it is only open during the school term time.

Will let you know how I get on.

You should all be still sleeping as I write this, so wishing that you wake up to a less painful day !

Take care, :surfer:
Cathie
