Kelly, you took the word right out of my mouth! :thumb:

Thanks, Ladies! Been doing some of the stretches and is feeling better. I also have been going to the Y and using what they call a semi recumbent elyptical(sp). I can do 20 min and gradually increasing resistance. I can feel it when I miss a day.
Getting ready for my trip to Nashville next week. RestAssured, Sonja, are you getting excited? I can't wait to meet you!
Hope everyone enjoyed their Memorial Day!

Yes, I am excited! We will get to meet and take pictures. New York and Texas together! Can't get much better than that! :happydance:

One year old!!! As of last Friday it has been a year with my new knee. :)
I would like to say all was well. But for some reason, to be discussed with my OS, I am still having some pain and discomfort. Mobility is good. Most of the pain is on-what I guess you would call-the lateral side of my knee. This is also the area where I had a lot of numbness after the surgery. There is still numbness but not as bad and the area is really kinda of rigid. Gonna call my OS next week and see what he has to say.
Josephine , any thoughts?

Numbness after TKR is an inevitable consequence of this surgery Numb area after TKR: how long will it last? Some people's numb patch will go away but most won't. I'm 4½ years out and mine is still as numb as ever. Pain and sensitivity is also sometimes inevitable. Mine is also very tender and can hurt if I kneel on or bump it. Fact is, there are sometimes things like this that hang on for no apparent reason. It just 'is'.

No one year check up for you? It wouldn't hurt to call about the pain and get it checked out. Maybe it's something with soft tissue and they can give you some exercises.

I saw the doc at the end of May when I went for an injection in my unoperated knee. He took xrays and said everything was good and I should see him in a year unless I have problems. I guess I thought things would resolve themselves but I am for sure going to call him on Monday.

Still feeling the pain. I procrastinated about seeing my OS but I have an appointment on Friday. It still is painful around the area of the it band. I don't seem to have much trouble walking, it's bending the knee that causes pain and discomfort. It also feels swollen a lot more than usual. Will find out Friday:)
I have started a Gentle Yoga class about a month ago at the Y. Love the stretching and all. The teacher modified the positions so I can do them on chair instead of getting down on my knees.

It would happen that the day of my appointment,my knee was doing good..:shrug:Well, doc says that the xrays say I am good. He seems to think it is a muscular issue due to my increased activity....treadmill, yoga, etc. I am inclined to agree with him. He said to keep it up but slowly increase. If it starts to bother, slow up.
I did find out what kind of implant I have...it's the Stryker Get Around:)
Off to Visit my daughter tomorrow. Taking her out for her birthday. Gosh, they sure grw up fast..lol

Jan, I visited your old thread because I read a message you sent to Rest Assured about your neck. I too have chronic neck pain, and just wondered what action you were taking for your pain. Then I started to read your post. I am now at the 12mth plus stage and can't get rid of the tight band that causes me considerable discomfort.

Did your knee ever fully recover? Carol

In 2 months I will be 2years out. I still have some discomfort and stiffness but for the most part I am doing ok. Trying to determine if I want to get the other knee done this year. I have a check-up appointment next month and will get my OS's opinion.

As for my neck pain problem, I had massage therapy once last month. I felt really good but there were a couple of pressure points that he hit on that were really painful. I am thinking maybe a chiropractor would be my next move. Does anyone have experience with seeing a chiro? I have never seen one and not sure what it entails.

Happy Easter to everyone!

I just completed a course in trigger point therapy. I rec'd great results when it was applied to me during the course. The results were almost immediate. So, I would suggest seeking out a PT who is certified in trigger point therapy and get rid of the pain in your neck.
David

I agree with David---I would be reluctant to let a chiropractor work on my neck---too much could go wrong with improper motions.

@Josphine I have a question for you. I am almost 2 years out from my TKR. I have noticed some swelling from my ankle up to the kneecap. Not a whole lot but it is enough to be concerned about. Don't know if it has anything to do with my TKR. I have a little bit of discomfort and pain but still able to walk and do stairs.
I did have a fall about two weeks ago but landed on my other knee(just a scrape on the knee and bruise on my arm where I tried to hang on to the door handle to keep from falling)
I plan on getting in touch with my OS next week as I don't have a follow up appointment with him till the end of May.
Any thought are appreciated. @Josephine

I know you have a lot of posts to go through, @Josephine. Musta missed this one.:)

Also, can my thread title be changed to "Getting ready for the second one" ?

Thanks!!

So sorry. Actually your tag didn't work because you misspelled the name (left out the middle e) and it didn't go blue. If it doesn't turn blue then it hasn't worked.

Still, I'm here now. -I changed your thread title but you can do it yourself. Just look for "Thread tools" at the top of the page.

As for your swelling, since you didn't mention pain, I assume you don't have any. So I think it's fair to say that at 2 years it's unlikely to be anything to do with your TKR. So don'tworry about that.
