@lavender Sorry I wasn't on here earlier. I had a bad headache today. Your Gram sounded like such a lovely person. You were so lucky to have her. I think each time you think of her she will be near to you.

Hi @tiredwife Sorry to hear you had a bad headache yesterday hope you are feeling better not a nice thing to have to deal with. Today we went to have our blood tests and with some reservations about returning to the place that we went to the last time where the treatment was not very nice we went back to the same place. It was the clinic that I made a complaint about by sending an email to them.

Today was like we were in a totally different place the atmosphere was so different very courteous and friendly and professional. Many of the people there were much older a man with a hearing loss like my husband and his wife was trying to manage to make sure he was doing alright he was not degraded when he did not hear his name called politely came to him and told him it was his turn. I was apprehensive about going to this clinic today after the bad experiences of the last few appointments and we only went to this place as it is in the same building as the specialist my husband is a patient of and he like the tests done here as they are easily picked up by him when ready and it is the place up till the past 6 month that we found to be the best liked it there before this upset.

The nurse gave us a number and then we sat till our turn . Very different treatment greeted with a hello how are you a smile which is no longer expected from these people and unlike most appointments where they say they cannot find a vein and search for one wherever they found a vein in the arm which they always say they can't bllod test done no stress, wished me a nice day and off I went feeling like all was well no stress. Next my husband had his and he was very pleased no voices being raised courteous, very polite, noticing the woman who usually sits at the front desk is not there maybe a day off but she was always there now the nurse who has done tests for each of us is sitting there instead. Quiet surroundings , no shouting or talking down to the patients. Maybe it does pay to say when things are wrong as it probably made the atmosphere for the other patients and even the other nurses working there less stressed

Today we both had doctors appointments to and mine was for blood pressure monitoring to check how my new medication is working met a new woman who is helping when my doctor is not there she was great and the readings have come down so much very pleased My family doctor has a little baby girl just born so he was off this morning with his family and new daughter.

The man called today and he said they were ready to put the bars in our bathroom and wanted to come and check to see where I wanted them and what type and size. Picked long nice white style very strong on for the long shower wall and the other will be placed by the shower head along the shower wall edge think they will work so great feel safer. He is also going to coat the tub bottom with something to make it less slippery and is going to ask in his suggestions if they would approve them cutting our tub putting in an insert to help getting in I said I was not sure if they would approve this and he told me they said they will do whatever is needed they will pay the cost can't believe it we at this time would not be able to pay it on our own but as long term renters they say they will take care of us. Feeling like cared about people are so nice most at least .

The man who came is older just about my age or a little older and he told me he has recently had a hip replaced he was really nice and I asked him what he would suggest. Fear of falling in the shower has stopped me was having one just baths these bars will make things feel so much more secure. He is no longer installing these bars due to his hip which he said has locked a few times so he sells the service and meets with the people needing these bars and then his friend does the installing. He understands how replacement surgeries need some help he has had one and very understand of the need and how to do it. Feeling excited one more thing done. Just so thankful our neighbor a man who had a pacemaker implanted almost blind , and because he came by knowing when he saw me walk that I had mobility issues he suggested asking he told me it is something they do for all who need it. they said when my husband asked it was their pleasure they would help in any way they could. nice to talk to and having his hip replaced he knows how it works. @lavender Holly glad the clinic was better to you and your husband. I will so much safer for you after you get the bars installed. You have a great day!

@tiredwife Hi such a change at the lab today back to the way it used to be when we first went there. Much more relaxed and felt at ease. The man who runs the business that is installing the bars in our bathroom called tonight and he has made arrangements for his partner to come tomorrow to put them in. He told me when he visited us today to measure and see what bars would work the best that he has fallen a few times with his new hip and will be going tomorrow for his pt to see if they can help with his arm. He hurt it when he fell and no longer can raise it up so this is why he is not doing the bars himself tomorrow. Nice man he looked almost like Santa Clause minus the hair but suggested that as they were going to pay for the bars the longer bar may be easier to use. Thankful they are willing to do bars in our bathroom they said that it is part of making our units safe for those of us who need the help with mobility issues.

Talking to a few of our neighbors they have had different pieces of equipment put in their homes as they have had surgeries as well. Like our landlords said the need for these additions is becoming more common as many of our fellow neighbors are getting older and so they have a few more who have had safety stuff put in. Things are coming together nicely and next step is to build the bath bench we bought. Hope your headache is gone and wishing you a nice day tomorrow. Holly

@lavender I'm better today, have tons to do though. This time next month you will have your new knee for Christmas! Hope everything goes super smoothly for you!

@lavender Just stopping by to say hi as I have not been getting alerts. It sounds like everything is going well for you and your husband. So glad you both had a positive experience at the clinic and that the safety bars are getting installed. Your landlord is so nice to do that and shows that they care about the well being and safety of their tenants. Not much longer until your surgery, it will be here before you know it.

I had a scare with my liver functions which I posted on my thread so I haven't been on everyone's threads for a few days and have missed so much. Take care and I am glad everything is progressing so nicely for you.

Hi @tiredwife Thanksgiving is not too far away for you now . I love your Thanksgiving characters they are so cute and thanks for sharing they are great. Are you getting together for Thanksgiving day hard to believe how fast the time is going seems like so short a time ago it was summer and now almost December. Nice day yesterday and feels good to see the bars going in and little by little things are coming together. When I went to my doctors appointment yesterday they told me he would not be in till the afternoon so someone else would be seeing me wondering who. The woman that took care of me was really nice she is filling in for the nurse that is usually with my doctor and made me feel very comfortable. Really like our family doctor hope he never leaves but she was a pleasant person to talk to.

Last year we bought a cookie press always wanted one and it was on sale at Micheal's with a 50 percent off coupon so my husband said lets get one. My Mom always made spritz with hers and so did I so thinking maybe today after the man installs the bars I might give it a try. Used to bake so many cookies and give them to people for something nice for them but do not bake much anymore as too tempting to have it around so not as many people to bake for now. Another favorite is peanut butter bars which are not as sweet taste like Reeses peanut butter cups and easy to make. I was readying the thread you have of favorite Christmas pictures and your grandson is so cute what a nice Christmas card that would have made. I also love the one you showed where he is all of the reindeers and so imaginative great idea.

Next Wednesday is the beginning of my pre- op appointments and looking forward to seeing my surgeon that day making it feel like it is coming now . Phoned my surgeons office yesterday to ask about some of the pre op forms and she was very nice on the phone and felt good so have that all figuired out how soon you can forget how the first time around went along but the good thing about that is that you also forget with forgetting the other few things how much it hurt so that is a good thing pain only lasts for so long and then something of the past.

I am really enjoying the cross stitch that I am working on now she is beautiful but thinking I will work more on my Santa picture too he is sitting in his armchair and it comes with a little poem he is sleeping and sitting by his Christmas tree his striped socks are made of metallic thread and he is really nice so might slip a few stitches into this one along with my Lady of the mist. Hope you have a great day and now just waiting for the man to come and our bathroom will then be all ready to go. Holly

Hi @Minnie's knees I was reading on your thread before I saw alerts from you and tired wife on my thread and reading about the stuff you are going through not nice to have to deal with. I also have diabetic issues and understand how frustrating this can be talking to the nurse yesterday at my checkup for blood pressure keeping an eye on a new medication and discussing how sugar levels can fluctuate so quickly. My range is usually under 8,0 now that I am on insulin but who knows just when you think it is working fine it can change without any reasoning. Hoping you are feeling better and understanding how sugar levels can be so hard to handle. Hope you are receiving good care and that your doctor is easy to talk to.

I am thankful to have such a great doctor he makes all of it so much easier as he is very understanding and kind. My husband and I went to the movies on Saturday early show at 12 noon and took our bottle of water with us. After the show felt a little funny then a little off felt weak and then driving home just wanted to get home only 15 minute ride but knew I needed to be home and when I took my blood reading I came up with only a 4.0 then shakey and had trouble writing in my log book. They say that a 4.0 to 7.0 reading is good but anything around a 4.0 is not a pleasant feeling felt sick and needed food.

The specialist my husband goes to also specializes in diabetis he knows what he is doing has my husbands sugar levels pretty stable he does not advise going below 5.0 which is what some expect hard to get there and hoping when I go for my pre-op to see him for my preop medicine part he might have suggestions for me to he was also in charge of this part of my pre op last time around and at that time he mentioned if my sugar levels went high with surgery he would put me temporarily on insulin this did not happen so no insulin but this time around being I am on insulin hoping he may find the right dose for me as the dose I take seems to change all the time he will know what to do.

My husband and I are now both diabetic and on insulin how unpredictable these readings can be usually after the movies very low numbers maybe because we are really relaxed but under the same conditions at home sometimes the numbers can go high hard to figure out. Your mentioned going to Las Vegas are you planning a trip there and hoping you will be fine to go would be a shame if had to miss it hope you are doing better and happy I checked in on your post and thanks for your post to.

The weather here has been so much warmer very high winds so strong lots and lots of very hard rainfall temperatures expected to stay warmer but no snow left looking out the window just now noticing a few snowflakes coming down Hope you are doing good and wishing you all the best hope your liver issues are being cared for for you and hope you have a nice week Holly

@lavender Thank you about the pictures of my grandson. I think he is cute as can be. He loves to make people laugh.
My hubby and I have a tradition of going camping on Thanksgiving. Usually the day after friends come out and we all sit around the campfire and eat pie and talk until it gets too cold to sit out any more. We missed one year because hubby had surgery about then, but we will make it this year unless the temp stays below freezing.
We have a good heater in the camper, but if it is too cold to get out it isn't worth going.

Oh Vegas:heehee: Well, that's a long story. A bunch of the girls on here call me mom because I am always 'mothering' them, so since the campground doesn't have WiFi I won't be able to be on and watch over them, so I asked another woman to 'babysit' for me and so they are all planning to go on a 'make believe' trip to Vegas. Just fun and gives us all a laugh. We are all a little uh.....'creative'.

How fast the weather can change now noticing it is snowing like crazy no longer raining but the snow is no longer just scattered snowny little flakes but making its way to a white. Hope the man who is coming to put in the safety bars can find our home it is a little tricky as the way they are numbered is a little confusing and he is not the man who came yesterday so he might be lost. It is still not cold enough for the snow to stay so it is melting as fast as it falls now it has just stopped completely just tiny bits the wonders of nature. Not worried as love the way it looks so pretty just not comfortable driving in it when it gets deep.

The men have arrived with the safety bars nice to see the nice man from yesterday and his friend and excited to have them put in . Feeling very fortunate to live in a place where they care about their tenants and this makes their tenants wanting to stay with them. The man we met yesterday has left now he is really nice and we talked about knees and hips and he does look like Santa Clause who knows happy man with a good attitude nice to meet people who are this way.

His helper is installing the bars and putting the no slip treatment on the tub and I appreciated that he checked with me before putting them in he wanted to make sure the placement was where I wanted them to go. He was leaving to go to another place to put in safety bars there and said he had just installed them in our other neighbors place just before coming to our home yesterday.

He understands how much these safety things help people. He asked us our names and then I noticing his last name asked if he had a sister as I went to school with a girl with the same last name as his name. Sometimes you meet people who just click friendly and makes you feel like we are not really all that different when you stop to look at it we all have the same needs he mentioned when he was recovering after his surgery that he did not have work for 3 month he owns his business but he did not work we talked about how you manage no matter what and how we all get by however we need to.

Now still not feeling stressed about the surgery feeling better seeing things getting ready and happy to have the chance for this surgery and new hopes for easier movement next year in the spring the park will be waiting all of our feathered friends will be there and the arrival of their new little ones will be something to be excited to see can't wait weather will start warming up and although it still feels like spring some days here it will be a wonderful thing to look forward to and enjoy then will be all ready to go with husband and me and my two amazing new knees. Holly

@Hi @tiredwife your plans for Thanksgiving sound really nice lots of fun. We used to camp when I was growing up and we camped in a tent but remembering how as a little girl just loved doing it. Hope the weather stays above freezing for your time at your camper hope you get to go and the pie sound nice am sure your friends enjoy being there with you to. I have been reading about all of the fun adventure you have had and enjoying the things you have all been writing about just got mixed up a little on the trip to Los vegas happy to understand now that Minnie will not miss out on being part of this nice time you are sharing.

Little kids are really neat still have their imaginations and everyday is exciting for them. My husband decided one year it would be nice to make something for their Mom something home made so we got out the crayons that we kept for them and some of the paper we used for making our Christmas card bits and pieces of things we had around and it kept them busy and they made some nice things just a little imagination their Mom was surprised that this had happened so fast and the kids had something they could give her they were so excited. Nice that you appreciate what this little guy enjoys as some people do not take the time to look and listen and sometimes the best gifts are the ones made with the simplest things that do not cost money and took thought and love went into how they were made.

My brothers little girls were always so busy my brother is very proud of them and he and his wife always made a fuss of the things they were given by them . Their cards the kids were always home made and even now the cards we receive from them one of the kids made their talents have grown but many of their gifts are things they made my Dad bought my youngest niece who is now 20 year old a little set of dremmel tools just a few things tiny and he taught her how to use them she made key holders from little pieces of wood he gave her and they were our gifts one year.

My parents always encouraged us with things we wanted to do my Mom could always find a piece of cloth for me somehow so that I could make a little cover for a doll or something to wrap around my dolls to give them a dress she showed me from being a little girl how to do things and I loved how she took time with us always encouraging and my parents showed us they were proud of whatever we did and of us. Things have changed but remembering how much as a child growing up felt the love for all of us being who we each were and never compared trying to meet expectations.

Even being apart know how much love I had and how much love I gave and so grateful for those days memories of all of the nice things that have happened in my life and wishing not to have had the ones that changed things. I have a lot to be thankful for. Holly

Hi @tiredwife the day we went to the park it was quite cold and snow on the ground took our bread and wanted to see our friends love them so much . They looked so cold and felt bad looking into one gooses mouth he had snow in his mouth tried to hand feed them so the bread did not get snow on it and this worked for some geese . Others just laid down in the snow after leaving the water they looked hungry as not too many people visit the park for too long when the weather gets cold we go but that day it was very cold so just stayed to feed them and then on our way back to our car to get warm.

Love seeing the new little feathery babies and how neat to see them all grown like feeling they are our own want to see them not hungry and want to see them safe. I think this is one of my most favorite things to do almost like we are connected and really we are we are not that different from animals we all have the same needs. Happy to have had the time this summer to have spent with them our park is a wonderful place peaceful walks and surrounded by so much trees all kinds, the sound of the water as it flows over the water falls the look of enjoyment on the faces of the people who are out walking to maybe with their dog or children with someone they love or a friend they like to be with and the sounds of birds .

I found these things are more important to me then other things as this is a true window into what life is really all about. Time with my husband, lovely places to sit and talk and appreciation of just what is really important to me. As a little girl my family at that time my Dad and my Mom and my older brother and me and then my other brother who was just a tiny baby before me moved to where we lived and my Mom still does. My Dad and Mom would take us there over the bridge to the the side of the park where we now go and swing set where we would walk to from our house to play I was just 2 at the time and still remember little glimpses.

The weekend was the time we went for car rides out to the country and out of the car we got and walked up and down the country roads room to run and free. Memories of times that things were simple and we were all still small and weekends were family time my parents spent time with us doing things together. Thanking them for all of our memories. Holly

@lavender As a kid we went tent camping in the Rocky mtns. every summer. Hubby's first time camping is when we were moving once. To me it is hard to imagine that anyone grew up without camping. We camp a lot now, and plan on doing even more when we retire. We are too old for tent camping now and have a nice little pull behind camper.

I use to make a lot of the gifts I gave for Christmas, paintings, etc. We don't exchange with many people now because it got to the point we were just sending money around and around.

@tiredwife Our shopping list is much smaller now this year just one brothers family as the rest stopped a few years ago and we decided with watching our money we will stop to. I made sweater for everyone one year it was the year we moved and they were all packed as finished into black bags to keep them from being seen and made 17 now thinking I was crazy but wanted to give them to my family and spent so much time knitting along with working and babysitting. .

The only problem is that some people who did not receive one thought they had been left out my sister in law was upset her son in law did not get one I made them for my parents and my brothers their wives and the kids that was all and thought this was enough but always someone who has a problem with how things go. try to do something nice and sometimes no matter how you try always someone who causes stress. Years ago we used to make special cupcakes to give to family at Easter made them since I was a young teenager always fun to do until the same sister in law decided we did not give them

enough two each was not enough for her and her daughters and my brother and her grandson. she expected enough to save for Easter and give to her sister and her other family mom and Dad took away the fun needed to make so many so one year the small little gift of the cupcakes stopped got out of hand one wanted hers without coconut one wanted hers with certtain color jelly beans spoiled it so no more. The kids in our family are all past the age of twenty now and working so now hard to find something within our price range so going along with everyone else and have cut back so much on our shopping. Going to buy a few little things maybe movies for one another not too much trying to keep in our budget just more important to have time together and I will probably be in the hospital or will have just come home. Taking it slower and it will be nice

@lavender Sounds like your sister in law is a regular..... uh I'm not going to say it. I don't know why there is one in every family. Sometimes two.

Hi @lavender and @tiredwife. Thinking back on childhood memories is heartwarming. Never did the camping thing with my parents cos they started after I married and had kids. But we did go on car rides and rides to our grandmothers. Loved it. Especially Christmas time. It was a special time with the family. And now we make it for our kids and grandkids. We take them camping now. They love it. Of course camp is closed up till spring. That part is sad. Hate closing it.
It's going to be crazy around here tomorrow doing all my pre cooking and baking for thanksgiving day. The kids will help I'm sure. I'll let their mom clean it up. Lol
Have a great thanksgiving.

Hi @tiredwife It is so true every family has someone who rocks the boat we have a few. We adapted to both traditions when we got married both had basically the same traditions but we shared the traditions and meshed them together and then added our own together as well. My brothers wives are basically the same type of people and can be a little over bearing. My brother married a woman older then he was which is not a problem at all but when they got married she insisted the traditions she had when she was married before and her families traditions were the only traditions so we found along the way my family started to try to adapt to some of these the things he grew up with got kind of lost.

She had teen age kids when they got married and we were expected to buy for these kids and their boyfriends and her parents and her sister and her kids she was very angry one year when we said we would not be buying for anyone but her and my brother as the list for there family kept growing my sister in law she was the type of person who as my brother explained judged her worth by how many presents and how much they costed. We were not raised either my husband or me to put value on a gift according to the cost it had.

My sister in law came into the store we worked one summer and explained they thought they would stop buying for Christmas that year she said they could not afford it both had good jobs my brother a mechanic and she worked for the government so when she said this I told her I understood as everyone is probably feeling the crunch . This sister in law told my Mom at one time just before this her Mom was the knitter of the family so my Mom never felt she should knit for my brother and with so many I had to knit never even considered more sweaters. and when she did not see gifts of sweaters for all of her family thinking this was when she no longer wanted to exchange gifts with us.

My first impression was of relief as never seemed to find the right gift for them and always seemed to try even harder to shop for them still in what budget we set but no matter what no one could ever meet her expectations. One year we bought her a pair of ballet slippers to go with her present they were ceramic and pink had a ribbon to hang them on a tree and she collected ballet things we found them in a little gift shop in the little town we go to eat. When she saw them she said she wished we had bought her a set one pair would not look right.

When she left my dept my husband who had brought her to me she said she did not see me but she knew where I worked My husband after hearing her say we should leave shopping this Christmas said when she left wow that is one stress gone. Knew something would happen just seemed to good to be true wondering why she had told me when thinking my brother should have been involved in talking about it with me but knew something was wrong.

Well the time came to buy the gifts and he asked her why she had not bought anything for us she told him she found me in my shoe dept crying and telling her how much it was costing and how we were having a hard time this was her story. I was working that day very busy weekend so crying was not something that would have happened in the hustle and bustle.

Well the truth being told it was getting expensive coming from a large family and being that just within somewhere during that year our company had switched over to the company that bought us and it was a bit tight our wages were lower with less hours as they had 28 hours for full time and we had just left 40 hour shifts and higher pay but this was not an issue because we spent what we could and had already finished our shopping. thought what we had bought was nice and put thought in choosing the shopping we did. She did not know how to back out of the story she told my brother so she called me one night with him in the room and denied all she had talked about.making it seem as if the whole thing had been our idea my husband and mine

She told my family it was my idea and she was letting me down easy trying to be nice by saying we should not shop that year. My brother and I had always been close he taught me to drive and we were so close growing up how easily that can change when someone is resentful of that closeness we were not the only ones she did this to but caused strain in the relationship .

My brother the one that is closest to me now has a great wife she stays out of family stuff she does not think it is her place to cause problems and like my husband both are respectful of family relationships so never any time she has made any one unhappy with her actions She comes from a large family to and knows how things can happen when people get involved in things they should not.

My youngest brothers wife is the same type and she is the one that felt that family meant being available to babysit or do what she needed knowing we would say yes just to save any problems between my youngest brother and me. Two of these sister in laws have alienated themselves from their own families due to the same things happening with their families and after many years of trying to keep peace and stay quiet finally I spoke up and set them straight. My sister in law threatened to leave my brother during this time he told her she needed to apologize to us but the price of this being his marriage he now stays quiet and goes along with things can't blame him as his marriage is worth more then his loss of closeness with me the sister he thought was someone he had cared about.

Marriages in our family have caused more upset then we had ever experienced all through our unmarried years so we stay out of these things now let them battle on their own and look back at the times when we were at one time all so supportive of one another. Thinking back to one day just before my Gram died and she was talking to me about family. She said something like stay close things change sometimes it happens in all families even in the closest families I told her it won't happen we won't let it she said honey sometimes it just happens never believing it could she was very smart. The two sister in laws are really alike they do not get along with one another at all .

After seeing one of my first cross stitches many years ago strange they both let me know that if anything ever happened to me they thought it would be a good idea to put names on the back of things I had so people would know who got what. They both mentioned they liked one in particular at that time and the one they asked about was the same one for both. Not planning that one for either of them as other idea for who will have what.
