TKR Late Bloomer<

@KarriB I did see some advertised thru Amazon, didn't find anything on ebay just looked. I'll check out some medical health supply places also. I'll wait to do anything tho till after Monday's appt with the O.S. assistant. Curious to see what their thoughts are haven't seen an assist or the dr. for 5 wks or so. They will finally be able to see my open spot in person. ( it seems to be healing some I believe.)

It's nice were all able to support and encourage each other, so thankful for everyone's input and help. Found this site more helpful then information I've received from the dr, and p/t this site is dealing with real people who've experienced real problems and the highs and lows that goes along with this surgery and recovery process, and it's honest replies to what did and didn't work for them.

I'm glad you think the wound is healing a bit. In the end you need to do what's best for your knee and only you know how it feels after a day at work. If you have multiple ice packs you can try putting them in a small cooler bedside, start out with one, when it gets warm, switch it out for another. Someone here on BS did that, but I can't remember who. It'll give you an idea whether the ice works before buying an ice machine. My ice machine was given to me at the hospital even though while there the used big gel packs. Because of my infection I'm hoping I can buy new tubing when I get the left knee done.

I thought the use of a ice machine may be more handy. But the main thing right now is to spend time icing and elevating. It's more my foot and ankle area, not noticing it so much up by the knee.

I'm 3 1/2 months out & I still ice daily & nightly. Not all the time, just after a really busy day. It feels so good!

I'm sure the machine is easier, but trying it out with a packs is one way of knowing whether it works for you or is worthwhile. I understand the machines are not cheap.

@ KarriB no there not, think the cheapest I saw on line was about $140. I can be impulsive so it's a thought and I am glad I just didn't up and order one to quickly. Once I fall a sleep I don't usually get up any more to switch out ice packs, so I thought something like this may be more consistent.

Well seen my surgeons assistant today, it's been about 5 wks since my last visual wound visit.

Well to say the least she seem concerned, some more photos were taken, swabs were taken culturing, call into the wound care clinic to see about moving up my appt. The possibility of seeing another surgeon, mine seems to be out due to family issues and some surgery he needed, was unaware of this. To say the least I was a little hot tamale today, a little perturbed that I have been concerned for weeks, and my surgeon had no interest in having me come over and taking a few minutes to observe what was going on.

I get it he had his own issues he was dealing with and I am not cold hearted, turn my records over to a partner until you're back in the clinic, just don't leave me hanging.

There is also the possibility of having to have surgical debridement. A few minutes of my surgeon's time or a partner's time could have lead to a different out come. Another day and still no definite answers on to what exactly is going on. If my blood wasn't boiling, I would be scared, but at this point I am upset at being neglected.

I think you make some very good points and as I've said before, been very patient with your OS. Can another OS in the group see you and the wound?

I really feel for you, but every doctor I deal, including my PCP, has another physician cover for them when they are not available, you have been dealing with this for a long time. Did they tell you when another doctor can see you??? You are too nice, my butt would have sat in that office until another doctor saw me today!!!

@KarriB and @uva55 the assistant today was going to get in contact with someone right away tomorrow morning, by the time I was done today it was getting to late to see anyone else, or even to see about getting that Wound care clinic appt moved up. Will just have to wait for another day. I have been deeply concerned, I've tried to keep my emotions in check, but now the stopper is off and I can be and will be very vocal from here on out. I'm concerned about work as were already short staffed, also I have some time available but it would only amount to about a extra 4 wks I could take off if needed.

I'm so sorry you're having to go through this. Hoping so much treatment will be immediate in directing you back on the road to recovery zzevi. Healing Hugs going out to you~!

That's just not right for them to keep you hanging like that and then when you finally are able to go to the OS office they are all so concerned. Hopefully the swabs that were taken won't show any problems.

Well we will see what today brings in the way of answers. Thanks everyone for your support during this time. I've waited, I've been patience, now I will be heard and do expect some answers.

Yes, keep on until someone takes notice. I know you've been concerned about this for some time now, and you need answers.I hope you get something done and reassuring news soon.

I agree. Keep on them until you get seen by all who need to see your knee!

Saying prayers for you. Remember "the squeaky wheel gets the oil". You have been more than patient. Now's the time to be persistent (and annoying, if necessary ). There is no excuse for the delays you have experienced.
