TKR Knees 1 AND 2 up and running

I think if you need any reinforcement, they will probably use butterflies. Funny about the glue oozing though. I had glue on both knees and it stayed very dry and after 2 weeks it just started to flake off and was completely gone by week 3. Hopefully, everything will be fine with your incision but it's good you're getting it checked.

FG, that's what happened with knee 1. I think my incision is opening at the edges, hence the glue leaking out. I can't wait to see the OS -- for reassurance if nothing else. I thought about butter flying it myself but worry that I'll just hinder things .

Hubby and I did a quick trip to World Market so I could get a little Halloween care package for son (he's 24 but still gets trick or treat). That was a very therapeutic thing to do. Husband held my hand while I walked with cane. Only on my feet for 15 minutes, but for those 15 minutes I felt like a normal mom and not just a knee-keeper :). Iced and elevated. Now in bed, keeping the night worry monster at bay with some prayers, a good book and y'all.

Here's to a brand new week of hope and healing starting tomorrow .

My incision is closed with glue only and I'm having slight oozing of blood and fluids. I remember having this with June knee as well. I just change the dressing each day. Before we adjusted the meds, time was moving so slowly and the meds relaxing me so much that I fell asleep on the phone while talking to my daughter!

Wishing you a peaceful and relaxing night of sleep.

@newlybionic i identified with your story of driving your daughter off. Tempers got a bit short after a week in a very cramped hotel room the week after my surgery with the friend who had come along to care for me. He doesn't drive, so we were just stuck in that dark little room all day. He did a lot of things that were truly kind and right, but sometimes he get impatient or moody or he'd put off doing something that I wanted right away. I had to swallow so many complaints. I kept telling myself, do not tick off the man who brings you your ice. Just smile and say thank you. Remember the ice.

Shelia, you already know this, but I'm reminding both of you that there is a lot more holding your wound together than just the glue used to close your skin.
Closing surgical wounds: how is it done?

I think a bit of oozing is normal, no matter what is used to close the skin.

Thank you for the reminder, Celle. I think the oozing is more from my brain than anything else. I looked at my pic of knee1 incision I posted in scar thread and this one looks almost identical. I can't believe I was freaked to the point of preparing for an amputation at those few drops of blood. It's like I completely lost my mind for a few days. I'm embarrassed to keep that appointment tomorrow -my OS, like everybody's, is so busy and is coming in early to work me in. I'm keeping the appointment but goodness - I am just floored at how crazy (for lack of a better word) I went. It was almost psychotic.

After a weekend of eating healthy, balanced meals and RIEM, I feel like I'm back to myself. I'm using the cane and feel stable. I practiced coming downstairs with hubby a little further away each time, and this morning I came down 100% without a "spotter" and no fear. I feel SO much better. I think the lack of food was greatly contributing to the whole emotional mess I was in, but I couldn't see it (or anything else) at the time.

I want to thank y'all again for the help and PATIENCE. I surely hope to pay it forward. Right now my advice for anyone early post op is to follow the mantra, and take the article on post op blues very seriously. Also, EAT. I had to force those eggs and bacon down on Saturday, but 2 hours after a full meal is when I really started feeling the darkness lift. Eating high protein and complex carbs with fresh fruit for snacks all weekend was hard - my appetite is gone and my taste is off, but I ate anyway. Amazing results on my brain and I am sure on the rest of my body.

Here's to a zig day for us all. Thank God for you all.

About 14 years ago I took my mother to the ER at 3:00 a.m. with a heart attach. I was standing beside her as she moaned in pain. An EMT, who just come in, came and put his arm around me and said "Don't worry. They'll take good care of her." Those little kindnesses are NEVER forgotten. Three cheers to all medical people who take time to care.

Don't worry about seeing your surgeon. It's far better to see him and find out everything is normal, rather than to not go and thus ignore something that could be significant.
You should let him know if you're worried.

You are so right, FG. Just a few words of comfort mean the world. My first anesthesiologist (knee 1) stopped in the middle of his preop routine, sat down and talked to me about work and friends we had in common. It probably took 5 minutes but it gave me such relief to see that he saw me as a real person, not just another hospital gown. Surgery 2, I had a different Anesthesia person. He was competent but barely spoke to me. I remained terrified until I finally went to sleep on the OR table.

Celle, I'm surely keeping that appointment. Even with calm eyes, I think my incision isn't healing quite right. And it goes thru periods of intense burning - like fire ants are attacking it. Icing actually makes the burning worse. I just think either the leaking/dried glue is irritating it, or that I have a superficial wound infection.

One thing I think (as I try to figure out why I've been so worried about 2) - my first in home PT worked for the surgeon's office. She checked my wound and gave me reassurance at each visit. The current at home PT would not look at my incision and I had little confidence in him, although he was sweet. Tomorrow I start Outpatient PT with my "old" group. Having them right there in the surgeons facility and knowing they see only post op knees will give me tremendous relief. Just having another set of eyes looking at my concerns will mean a lot.

Keep us posted what OS says and plz don't worry what others think. It's your body and you should feel that you can ask questions and/or schedule an appointment whenever you need to. It's good you're seeing familiar faces in outpatient PT. I'm doing that as well. Hugs and positive thoughts coming your way.

My knee is FINE. No infection. In fact, OS said my ROM was 6- week worthy. I gotta love him. He is such a serious, compassionate gentleman. I gave him a brief history and my concern that I had infection, might need antibiotics, etc (voice shaking). Then I removed the rather extensive [emoji15]dressing and he looked. He was trying hard not to laugh, I could tell. He just said, "Shelia! That incision looks great!". I said, "so I don't need to be admitted for IV antibiotics?". And we both lost it. He was laughing so much he had tears. And I was too. Poor husband was a little annoyed, and just said, "I guess the amputation won't be necessary?". It was a noisy and joyful appointment . I apologized, of course, but I am so relieved.

Ok, I can relax and ENJOY rehabbing my wonderful new knee. Praise God. And thank you all. I promise to quit writing dissertations here every hour! Goodness. I wish y'all could experience my relief and laughter after having to deal with my ongoing freak out. Thank you.

:). Oh, I forgot most important good news. OS says there is absolutely no reason for me not to be ready to go back to Salone in March/April. He had me assess my August knee (which pretty much thinks it never had surgery except for NO arthritis pain!). I'll have to decide for myself, of course, but his optimism was the boost I needed right now.

When you go to Salone how long are you there, Shelia?

Been waiting to see this GREAT news!

Now, just stay away from those zombies and you'll be great

This time it will be a year, coming home every 3 months for 3 weeks, with hubby meeting me in Paris or Brussels every 1.5 months for 10 days. He'll also visit Salone for 3 weeks at 6 months. Previously 3 months there, 2 months home, 3 months there, 1 month home, 3 months there, home for knees. I needed longer times away during ebola, but now that that's gone back into hiding, there is no quarantine period so travel is much easier.

I'm glad your OS was so reassuring. He sounds like a nice man.

Such a reassuring visit with your OS! I'm glad your healing is going so well! Keep on with the BS way!
