TKR Knees 1 AND 2 up and running

I am so sorry your day is off to such a bad start. I'm praying it will get better, starting right now. Just do a few ankle pumps and enjoy snuggling in your bed. It will be ok. You deserve to pamper yourself. Your body has been through a lot. Hugs!

Hey everyone deserves a day or a morning in bed, especially someone with two new knees!

@sheliac dont you dare lecture yourself, you can take a day of rest, ice, elevate with no guilt and no regret. You deserve a total MH day (mental health). It will probably do you more good than not. Do you have meds, water, snacks, by your bedside nest? Thats all you need. Well that and your ice machine & tv remote.

Be kind to yourself, or I'll release the zombies.. :-)

Hope to see you feeling better, both physically & emotionally ASAP!

Oh, I forgot to include this in my tantrum: I threw the darn compression stockings (aka tourniquets) away. I had retrieved a back up pair after cutting my originals to shreds in night 3 pain frenzy. I can't stand them anymore. And I can't find real evidence that they prevent DVTs in mobile patients. I think they are another sacred cow of surgery, and should go the way of CPM machines. Wrong??

Ok now my tantrum is really over. My oxy is starting to work. Thank God for analgesics. It will be a long time before I sleep without ice machine again!

It is funny how our knees control what we do and don't do. Even after 4 plus months, I still have to ice everyday. If not, that night is bad. Spoiled like the Brat it is!
Enjoy your day of rest. It won't hurt and will even help. You'll still be getting up and going to the bathroom and probably getting something to eat and drink. Your body deserves TLC!

I suffered thru those leg crushers with my hip. After reading about their questionable value I said never again. When released from the hospital I had my speech all ready. They were never even mentioned and I was fine. Toss em :-)

I never had to wear them, thank heavens! Glad you threw them away!

I say always go by what your body is telling you. You won't get a DVT or pneumonia. Cwtch up and rest, just wiggle your feet a bit now and again, and let the meds work their magic. Your body is working hard at healing, rest will help. I'm glad you are able to get some decent sleep too.

I agree with you and not the hypothetical nurse. Your body knows best! Enjoy your day of total rest and don't feel guilty! You are doing the wise thing.

If you were your nurse, you'd be a mean one! You won't get a DVT lying in bed for a day, or pneumonia. A few ankle pumps and you're good. Trips to the bathroom will be sufficient. It's not like you are a layabout every day. Be gentle on yourself. Rest, relax, take pain Meds, veg out. You just had major surgery #2 a week ago. No heroics here. And I used a walker for nearly 2months! I walk fine now with no aids.

Enjoy your morning in bed - and don't be so hard on yourself.

mamazipp is right. I spent most of my time in bed for the first month or so. I lived in t-shirt and stretch capris. That isn't to say that I lay in bed like a log - I made bathroom trips, walked around the house a bit, made myself a hot drink, did a few ankle pumps. The activities of daily living are enough in the early stages and you probably rest better in bed.
I ditched my compression socks the day after I came home from hospital. They were too tight and seemed to make my knee swell more. I think they were doing more harm than good.

I hope your day got better...The hose can be annoying, it's a workout just getting them on, lol

Another one who tossed the teds a few days after leaving the hospital! And since I have no recliner, I spent upwards of 20 hours a day in bed the first three weeks, and still spend most of my downtime in bed with my leg elevated. Didn't do me any harm, probably the opposite.

:). Day 9 post op knee 2
I love the support of you guys. I really don't know how I'd make it without this place, that said very seriously.

Taking the day in bed yesterday was so spot on. After about 2 hours I started feeling guilty and got up to dust the bedroom. Thankfully, I read your comments and did another reality check. I got back in bed and stayed there except for trips to bathroom and a few walks in the hall.

I called and told hubby not to come home to help me downstairs at lunch and that was such a relief. The stairs are my biggest stressor. My baby knee feels like it is going to buckle or "go backwards" and every step down is terrifying. Going up is not bad. I use the cane and rail and hubby , but it just doesn't feel stable.

By the end of the day I was walking around upstairs feeling much more stable. I even used just the cane for a couple of bathroom trips. The swelling is almost 1/2 of yesterday and my pain is back to normal (meaning random spikes to 1-2).

More importantly, I feel much less near the emotional edge. I feel less anxious and obsessive. Thank you for the prayers for peace. Going down that "what if" trail serves no purpose, but once I get on it, it's hard to get off it.

Hubby is taking the next 2 afternoons off, just to be here. I am so blessed to have him. Before surgery I was so worried he would use his "no pain, no gain" attitude, but he's been just the opposite. I am so grateful for that.

Today, I'm staying upstairs again. It's rainy and cold, a perfect rest day. I'll be up and around more, but having the bed to rest in really is nice. I have everything I need up here, so why not? I guess I just considered it imperative that I get up, showered, dressed and downstairs. Hearing that y'all used the bed to rest in made me feel much better about it.

I hope everybody has a zig day. I read a lot of journals here yesterday and the strength and resilience of the people here never stops amazing and inspiring me. :)

YAY! Great to hear from you. Keep up the REST and ICE, and you will be up and around, and less stressed before you know you.

Dusting? really? ummm I do NOT think so....

What a great report! I am so glad that you are being sensible and taking it easy. Forget those stairs until you feel stable. Your knee is so new but it still knows best. I hope you have another restful day.

Rest is what your body and knees are demanding on you right now. By listening you are already feeling better and that is wonderful news. That hypothetical nurse is not there and this real nurse gives you her blessing to give yourself a break.

I'm so glad you decided to rest properly in bed. Both your knees will thank you for that.
Ditto from me to what Marian said.
