I'm awake, so I thought I would check in. When I arrived I got my IV, which the nurse got right in. Phew! I didn't have a femoral nerve block this time. Phew! I got my spinal in the OR. It took a bit to get it in, but they put something in my IV and from what I recall it was very tolerable. I awoke in the OR at the end of the surgery and was completely comfortable. In the PACU I got a peripheral nerve block. They put it in using ultra sound, but I didn't feel anything because of my spinal, and they gave me some fentanyl.
My pain level has not gone over a three. I'm able to do my exercises. I have a CPM that I did use for an hour. However at that time they found I was leaking blood from around the drain. They cleaned me up and changed my sheets. I've stood and taken a few steps. I've had no nausea. They are proactive and give me pain meds and anti-nausea medicine by the clock. I had broth and jello and iced tea. Then I moved on to a delicious dinner. The nurses and anyone directly associated with my care are just wonderful. I feel like a princess at a spa who has a bad knee! I hope it continues. If I could I would take everyone home with me!
I'm sure when this nerve block is gone that there will be more pain. I am grateful though for such a pleasant first day.
