Just came back from a great dinner with Mrs. Joe.

(the chair was a bit hard and uncomfortable, so I'm typing this with my leg on pillows and an icepack on me leg

) I've started going out during the day meeting some friends and some other light everyday activities. Feels good, things starting to get back a bit to normal and I no longer struggle getting into my car!!!! I use a cane. But find myself able to take some short breaks without it, but the minute my leg gets tired I limp badly so I immediately go back on the stick. I haven't walked any great distance at once probably not even a 1/4 mile, but I do take frequent shorter walks.
I worked heavy construction (underground utility repair) for close to 25 years, several coworkers had hips and other assorted parts done (just the nature of the work) and urged me years ago to do mine, I kept putting it off, thought I was too young was scared. Anyone reading this who is putting off the inevitable, please think again and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I spent the last three to four years really struggling and in pain with very limited ROM not able to do a lot of things I used to do and ended up having surgery anyway. I'm not trying to sound negative about this, it is what it is.
As others have noted progress is more like two steps forward and one step back and varies day to day. But looking back over the past month I'm doing pretty good I think. At times I still struggle with my own head games. When I'm alone during the day or up at night it's very easy for me to hyper focus on every little pain and worry about it. That's when I like to come here and read. All the threads, those who are doing great and flying through recovery and those who are having some issues. It helps keep things in perspective.
