Came back home late this afternoon. Almost an hour long car ride. Shouldve waited til the rush was over. Hospital (Macneal in Berwyn Illinois) treated me very well can't say enough good things about everybody that I dealt with. OS. came by this morning. Showed me a picture of the femur head, now that it's over seeing the picture of it laying on the table didn't bother me. Hah. He then touched my leg in spots and pressed , said I could massage it gently,
just not on the incision. . Pain wise in the hospital I recieved Norco 10 with an injection of dilaudid for breakthrough pain. I got sent home with scripts for Norco 5 and 50mg Tramadol (to which I'll add Tylenol,if necessary observing the max dosage rules). Also took coumadin in the hospital and have xarelto for ten days at home followed by aspirin for several weeks after that. Hopefully everything goes smooth. Also I got some 9x12"
gel cold packs from Amazon which so far are working well.

Hi @JoeL glad you are home and pain is under control

I asked to see my femoral head.....I thought it was interesting. I also asked for a picture of my infection but he said it just looked like blood and mush...at least he was willing!!!

Keep up the good work

Hi @JoeL So glad to hear you are at home now. That's a milestone! :yay:
Keep adding those little milestones up....
Do you have to wear Teds?
So the pain is tolerable, not awful?

@Vetgirl a picture was enough for me, a few weeks ago not even a chance at that, to actually see it physically though, :yikes:. @MajorHeidi yes I must wear the teds, during the day. Pain is o.k. just found out Tramadol and me do not play nice together. Home nurse came by and explained that I should alternate one norco5 and one tramadol50 every 3 hours. Half hour after the first tramadol, I was sweating felt my pulse in my feet and major anxiety attack. Just lucky the p.t. came by right in time. She took my blood pressure, it had gone up and my temp went up to 99.2 and heart was beating fast. Not an emergency in any sense (but felt like it to me), P.T. talked to doc and nurse and got permission from the doc to continue the session since my vitals were outside her allowable parameters. This was just an evaluation session but I really like this p.t. she's an older gal with a lot of experience, recommends two sessions next week and was clear she will not push me past discomfort. Doc said not to take the tramadol anymore just one to two norco 5's every 4 hours. :snork:

Glad the pain is okay; weird on the tramadol, but good the home nurse was there, and reassured you and took
you off it.
Sounds good with the PT. Glad we are on BS, and have learned that PT should not hurt, and should be just bare minimum, unlike knee patients.
Hope your weekend is nice @JoeL .
6 days for me......

@MajorHeidi , yeah, weird with the tramadol, just one of those things I guess because it actually worked pretty good on pain, or maybe it was just the distraction the side effects were providing :tada: . Weekend will be nice, some friends are stopping by to offer comfort and hopefully bring some goodies. :). As to your six days. I predict they'll fly by and next thing you know you'll be waking up wondering when they'll start but they'll already be done.

Hi JoeL. When tramadol works for a person, it's a good drug to have in your arsenal. When it doesn't work for a particular person, it can feel scary. Some people do well with it, but then have problems when it's time to stop. Others never have any problem with it at all. Guess we could say this about all meds. It's good that you found out quickly that it won't work for you. There are alternatives if you need them, and in a month or so, you'll be tapering off anyway. Best of luck with all of it.

Sharon

@sharonslp Thanks, it was unnerving, I think moreso not knowing if it was going to get worse and require an ER trip. So far the Norco/Apap is working. Maybe that's all I'll need.
@fulafoto , Hi Bill thanks, I saw the photos you posted. Congrats, those are beautiful.

JoeL...Well welcome to the other side! Bet you never thought you would be called a "hippie" at such a young age. Glad all is going well, take care.

@JoeL, welcome to the other side. Glad you have your meds squared away! Sounds like you are doing well. Best of luck for a smooth recovery. Remember rest, ice and elevate! I look forward to your updates!

@JoeL Welcome fellow "Hippie"!! So happy everything has went well. We all have some little hickup that we figure out along the way, but really no use worrying about them huh!! You'll be walking all over without pain before you know it. Keep the ice handy and take your meds on time and life will be GRAND!!! Take care and keep us posted how you're doing!!

Okay, yesterday pt helped me downstairs and outside (only a couple of days inside, but feels forever), cleared me for side sleeping, Thank God. made it outside today and a itsy bitsy teeny little stroll about 70'. Been showering daily since Sunday. Norco makes me a bit anxious at times along with the blues that Jo wrote about in other posts. Oh well, everythings a little give and take, everybody's got their own little speedbumps. Oh and got a basket for my walker. Os is real strict about walker use right now.

@JoeL Sounds like you are doing wonderful!! Keep doing what you are doing and you will get there. We are here, watching and waiting for your next post as you sail thru your recovery!! Have a good night my friend!!

Nice Friday. PT. came by this morning. We always start out with a walk outside :)(The way the hallway doors on my flat are laid out it is too awkward to get out alone with a walker, so otherwise I have to wait until Mrs. Joe gets home to help) beats the heck out of my hourly apt. treks. PT says another week before I can ditch the walker and go to a cane. Sigh, it is what it is. Then my best friend for the past forty years or so stopped by. Then my parents, who being staunch Catholics, brought me a lenten favorite a pepper and egg sandwich. I like visitors, I get tired of watching T.V., satellite just gives me more channels with nothing on. It's been only ten days post op. but things are progressing. Now I just have to stop hyper obsessing and focusing on every little creak, groan and pain. LOL.

Still on inhouse pt, she started me on a cane today, felt really good, very discernible progress! :) though she still wants me to use the walker during the day until I have another session or so with her. I also took my first car ride since coming home. Had my 20yo son drive me to a quick dinner meeting. I am NOT used to someone driving my car, especially with me as a passenger, but I'm not going to drive yet. It's amazing the simple things like meeting someone for a quick bite and a talk takes on a big significance after being cooped up for awhile. Daily walks outside are getting a little longer, doing more at home, even though it's still with the walker. Still icing and elevating alot and still paying way too much attention to every little pain . Area around the incision is also still tender and has some swelling still.

You're doing good @JoeL , and nice progress to get to start using a cane.
I hear Chicago has good food, and it sounds like you are getting some of that, and seeing some scenery again.
