Revision TKR JennyLynne's "full" disclosure

Good morning!
Had a good nights sleep, even though someone was in here every hour. The drugs helped me to get right back to sleep.

My surgeon came in at 6am. He said everything went really well and he was happily surprised how easily my leg straightened (I was horribly knock kneed).

Took a little walk with PT and some gentle exercises.

Sitting in a chair waiting for breakfast, then I'll get back into bed with a big fat bag of ice!

You have your leg elevated while sitting in that chair, don't you? If not, you need to get it up as soon as possible. Having it hang down leads to much increased swelling and pain.

You are blessed to have had a good night's sleep and a straight leg! Get all the sleep you can. It's healing!

And here comes the pain... looks like the nerve block is wearing off quickly. Ooof, it's amazing how fast it can come on.
Just got a torodol/tramadol/Tylenol dose and oxy should be in about an hour.
Have ice on top and under knee.

A Toradol IV push got me over the hump, hope it does the same for you, Jenny.

Yes! You're on your way to recovery with your new knee! Toradol IV and the slow release oxy help a lot. Just be sure they send you home with the right amounts (strength) of meds so you can get through those days (weeks) when not assisted by IV drugs.
I too had nerve block, spinal and sedation and remember being wheeled into recovery and the conversations I had with the folks there. I was very alert.
Take it easy. Ice and elevating and a lot of Netflix. :) or mindless tv.

I had a pain pump in addition to the nerve block that stayed in for 4 days. That worked great. I'm glad my surgeon uses that.

When my spinal wore off and the pain hit hard, I got my oxy early. A half hour ahead. Only time my docs allowed it. Worth asking for.

Hope you get relief soon!

Rough start to day. Slept well and got up to use washroom around 6am. After I got back in bed, I had my first bout of really intense pain that didn't stop. Nurse gave me oxy a little early to help. That and ice are starting to take the edge off.

Supposed to go home today if the pain is under control.

My surgeon's PA came in to check on me. He said that he finds that the younger patients often experience more pain due to more muscle mass and sharper nerve endings. True or not, I don't know but it sure feels true right now, haha.

They pushed off PT until the pain is under control better. Really grateful for an amazing nursing staff at this hospital. So attentive and caring.

Thank God your caregivers are on the ball! I hope that your pain meds are figured out and you can go home. That's the best place for you, if so.

I'm home! Getting in the car was a nightmare but the rest was fine. Happy to be in my bed! Missed my 5 yr old... he drew me a bunch of welcome home cards. [emoji170]

Oh good, you're home! Don't do too much! Let that 5 year old be a big help to you. It will make him feel needed and in turn help the both of you! Remember to follow the Bonesmart way! Never let anyone touch your leg or force you to do anything that hurts.

Thanks @sistersinhim
I requested the same home PT therapist as my last surgery.
I don't know if he's available but he was great!

Welcome homw. Remember to rest as much as possible.

I'm glad they kept you in hospital until you were over the pain block wearing off.

@Celle they tweaked my med schedule today after seeing the pain I was in- I'm now taking 10/325 Percocet every 3 hours and ultram every 6 hours. Hope to get back to 4 hrs between Percocet soon.

That's good patient care. You often need extra pain meds when the block is wearing off.

Glad you're home! Hopefully no car rides for a while!

Welcome home! Be sure to get lots of rest!

Hey surgery buddy! Sounds like the surgery is really working for you! I too am home with my legs elevated and iced! Good luck and I will try to update when I feel up to it!

Had my first home PT session. Therapist was really nice, very calming and gentle. She massaged my thigh and calf a lot, which felt so good. We worked on gentle slides and bends. My doctor has me in the "fast track" program- 5 home visits a week for 2 weeks. Hoping it stays gentle and slow!

Oh my, that sounds like way too much therapy. Many OSs don't even allow therapy to the first month to give your tissues time to start healing. I hope you continue to get the same gentle therapist each day. If not, do not let them hurt you or cause you to hurt yourself. That will cause you to swell and set your recovery back. Please follow the guidelines left for you and you should be OK.
