Hip Infection* Izabel, Walking on Sunshine

March has brought good news ... Just heard a while ago my pre-op consultation is on Tuesday the 5th and a tentative op date is Tuesday the 12th ... but to be confirmed! I am excited but at the same time apprehensive with 3 major ops within a year!

I have been waiting SO long for this ...
:yahoo:

I insisted on blood tests at this stage of the game so they were set for tomorrow as well. Got phone call this morning shifting all to Wednesday or today, do I took today. Blood/urine/MRSA tests plus Nurse Consultation who also does the Anaethetist questioning. Came home with all pre-op bumph and wash wipes. Now waiting for confirmation all is go .... :beg:

That is such joyous news after your long run of tests and trials with this hip! Fingers crossed here for you.

Confirmed ... check in at 12 Noon on Tuesday, 12 March. I am booked in for 8 days and have asked for 'my' room which I have had twice before. It is a private corner room with palm tree and sea views. There are only 52 rooms in the hospital, 26 surgery on the 1st floor and 26 medical above on the 2nd floor, all private or semi-private.

The New Dawn is beckoning ... deep breath! :egypdance:

Hello,
You'll be in my thoughts and prayers, Izabel.
You know how to do this in style! Private corner room with Palm Tree and sea views. Lucky you!
I think my view was a Walmart parking lot :heehee:
I hope you have a peaceful few days leading up to the 12th. Will stop by again before your surgery.
Hugs
@Izabel

Yes, breathe and keep those positive thoughts surging through your body.

You know we will be there in spirit...cheering for you.:ok:

About 24 hours before Admission.

Had to go to hospital this morning to give blood sample. Bit shite as it is a 2 hour round trip for a 5 minute session. :headbang: Nurse apologised and said it is now protocol as they send the blood to the State hospital (I am private) for typing to get blood in case needed for op and they must do it within 48 hours. This is new from my other ops. Fasting for 6 hours.

Anyway, it was a nice sunny ride. Temps today 13c -22c ( 55F-72F) but should drop a couple of degrees this next week. We have not had a winter at all.

Have clothes, toiletries ready for hubby to pack. Need to shave legs and wash hair later. Then use the horrid wipes and hubby change bed linen. Horrid wipes again in morning. Ridiculous as they showered me in October after I arrived in room ... grrrr!

Being positive as it seems there is more success after infection than failure. :fingersx: :praying: I am looking forward more to the op than the 8 day stay. They are just SO conservative here.

Anyway, lunchtime, grilled cheese and onion. Yum.

:oyvey:for the two hour trip but glad all is set to go!
Eight days in hospital is long but guess they just want to safeguard their good work!:)
I will be thinking of you and wishing you ALL the best.:friends:

Thank you all for your good wishes.

Will be heading out to the hospital in about 90 minutes ... don't like this mid day check in, but ...

Will have Notebook with me (don't use phones) so will report in either late today or tomorrow.

Izabel heading for the New Dawn ... xx

Edit: Add another hour to my departure time ... I am getting ahead of myself ... :heehee:

Good luck @Izabel - successful op and good wishes while you are weathering out the 8 day stay. I had a 7 day stay after my left hip replacement. They were also pretty conservative in some hospitals in Germany in 2015 - I wonder whether it's changed since then. And wow 15-22°C! Even if temperatures dropped a bit, it would still considerably warmer than in the Frankfurt area where it is just above freezing in the morning and about 8°C maximum now (but expected to rise). I wish you a speedy recovery in this wonderful summery weather of Portugal. - Constanze
