TKR Injured Knee 3 Years Out

Oh and my extention is good at -15, but flippin'flex is so painful I don't even care about it.

Oops, that - was a typo! Actually I'm at zero if I push it a bit, or 5 when I dont.

I was told that there's all manner of "crazy cross linked" and "wild" scar tissue forming that will take over and the knee will be stuck in a rictus like that permanently unless the scar tissue is elongated and molded to some standard as to conduct more ROM, even if there's still a lot of swelling.
They are full of it! They just want to keep you coming and getting more money.

I do have another question, what is this thing/term PT's use about molding and stretching scar tissue? What does that mean? I was told that there's all manner of "crazy cross linked" and "wild" scar tissue forming that will take over and the knee will be stuck in a rictus like that permanently unless the scar tissue is elongated and molded to some standard as to conduct more ROM, even if there's still a lot of swelling.
That's a whole lotta hooey - absolute rubbish! Don't believe a word of it.
Just think about it: Nature has been healing wounds long before PTs came on the scene - and doing it well. You can safely let her do the job. There's absolutely no need to do any elongating or molding.

Of course there is scar tissue forming. That's what holds your wound together and heals it. Without it, you'd always have an open wound.

It takes time to heal. Given time, without interference, your knee will heal beautifully. All the kinks and bumps will even out and you'll be left with a lovely, neat scar.

Your knee and your scar won't set. Ignore what your PT says and don't let him/her start manipulating the scar.

If they ever got to actually handle a piece of 'scar tissue' they would know it is impossible to do anything with it! You can actually get a pretty good idea if you use a piece of gristle from an uncooked joint. It's so firm it's almost solid. They make it sound like it has the consistency of plasticine which it most definitely is NOT! What makes me laugh too is that these same PTs will scoff at the notion of chiropractic treatment yet do and recommend far more illogical things themselves. This is a jolly good example.

Thank you for your replies!
More big questions ( hope you all don't mind) today: I went for my 1 month follow up visit to my surgeon. Of course I pretty much knew what was coming about my flexion. It was a long drive to the place (approx an hour) and I was sitting in the passenger seat at a not so comfortable angle, but it was tolerable. Anyway, felt like a stiff pretzel rod for a while after that. This I think had an influence on my already wimpy bend. Doc had me bend lying on the exam table and it was a tepid 70. Well he certainly wasn't happy about it and said something about "frozen knee". But I don't have that! It's wimpy bended knee. He squished and poked a bit around the stiff areas and informed about the dreaded scar tissue forming. I actually thought I was doing pretty good with this as at least I'm a little more ambulatory . He said he wanted to see bend at least to 90 by this point. Well so do I, but guess what.
Then he mentioned MUA for down the road. I replied that I have read some not so hot outcomes from that and what was the worst case scenario if one just doesn't achieve magic bend numbers. He said something about a limp. And that limpy patients weren't acceptable to him. He encouraged me to "hurt myself in a good way" more by going after bend lying down with a towel and pulling pulling pulling to get bodacious bend. The only good news received was extention is good, scar looks good, and I can drive any time I'm ready. What say you to all of this Bonesmarties ?

You were swollen after being in a car and not elevating and icing for over an hour. Not to mention the time waiting to actually see you OS. Don't use anything to bend your knee but your own strength. You will only inflame it more resulting is more swelling and less bend. Don't beat yourself up! It sounds like your are doing well. Was it your right or left knee? Being able to drive is a huge improvement! It was about 7 weeks before driving.

Right knee. Will be driving car with automatic transmission .

Oh and PS doctor also mentioned arthrofibrosis...but he didn't exactly say if I had it or not. Any opinions on this would also be appreciated!

Your doctor is being over-cautious. It's -perfectly reasonable to have a stiffer knee after a one-hour car journey. 70 degrees isn't bad under those circumstances. Of course you don't have a frozen knee.

Arthrofibrosis doesn't start to form as early as this in a recovery.

What a shame that both your doctor and your PT are doom and gloom merchants.

Try not to worry. You have plenty of time to achieve good ROM - at least a year.

Thank you. I am currently so discouraged and stressed out.

Don't let them get you down. You are having a very good recovery. If your doctor will let you drive now, then he, too, thinks you're doing well. You ought quite a month out yet. You have a lot of us beat! Definitely me!

Next time try to take an ice wrap or two to use on your trip to the OS. I wouldn't worry too much about your flexion for now,

Don't feel bad all will be ok at the end. I fad MUA almost two months after TKR and my rom didn't change that much but when I decided to stop pt my rom kept on getting better and now it's 125. I know it's hard right now but it will get better.
