TKR Injured Knee 3 Years Out

So...with this PT has come a fair amount of stretching that also involves the calves, etc. After PT on Thursday I noticed a bit of a achiness near my heel and under the ankle. By Friday morning i could barely walk: I had a bad heel sprain ! Overuse on heel slides, back calf stretching, etc. definitely caused this! As of this early morning going to the bathroom from the bed was so painful I could barely limp in there. I may end up having to go to urgent care or ER today for crutches at least. This certainly supercedes the knee discomfort! Needless to say, stupid PT is over for now. Anyone else ever have something like this happen?

There have been members that have been injured by over enthusiastic PT having you doing exercises that you should wait to do for several months or pushing on your knee. Ditch the PT for a while. I hope you can find out what the problem is and you start to feel better soon.

For sure, your therapist had you overdo the exercising. I'm sorry that has left you in such pain.
I suggest you take a complete break from all PT and just concentrate on lots of rest, ice, and elevation. Your ROM won't suffer. It could even improve.

Oh no. I agree with the others. Stop all pt and just rest and ice.

Hi all!
Today was a good day...finally! Resting uber sore heel seems to be helping quite a bit as well as wearing my trail shoes with orthotics in them to support said sad heel. In other news:a most interesting gadget arrived in the mail today-a Flexbar! I ordered one online after doing a lot of home PT researching. This device looks kind of like a walker cut in half, with a bar at the bottom that you rest your foot on. Then you proceed to use the leverage of your arms to gently pull the device towards you to obtain bend and stretch, and you are the one in complete control of how that goes. Ideally take it to the point of mild discomfort but never pain. So far I like it way better than miserable PT ! A book also came with the device with the philosophy behind this handy little thing.
Also I drove today! Take that, naysaying PT lady and Doc Downer! Just around a couple of blocks and now I'm kinda sore, but huzzah! Just thought I'd share some good news for a change. :)

Driving is so freeing! Good for you. Now, rest that knee!

Hello Bonesmart pals!
Just thought I'd share some interesting information with you. Upon researching (cause that's what I do while sitting around with Kneezilla) I came across a site by Foundry Sports Medicine regarding post operative knee stiffness and ROM. It seems there are varying standards as far as ROM numbers that I wasn't even aware of! Stiffness has been defined by varying sources/experts as anything from less than 45 degrees(a previous standard ?) to less than 70 degrees ( more recent, presumably) to the current less than 95 or so degrees. So if many who post here, including myself, were to go by the now disregarded numbers we'd be fine! The article goes into a goodly amount of depth on stiffness causes, and of course the dreaded MUA. But it is interesting reading.

Kneezilla than you for that word, it decribes my kee too. Thank you for the link I will read it.

I calls 'ems as I sees 'ems!
Birdwatchr , you had yours done in June...how's it looking now? My scar is healing well (at 5 weeks) but is still kind of "lumpy" and puffy. Is that normal?

I love birds also! watching them at the feeders has kept me reasonably sane through all of this.

@readymade

The picture I posted around July 8th was about 6 weeks after surgery. I haven't posted another one. But the scar has flattened out and is fading a bit. It is only 4 inches long, and looks pretty good. My thread is "what I did on my summer vacation". It stayed puffy for a while. I was a little concerned, but it did flatten out, just like the PA said it would.

Haven't been watching the birds much, as I couldn't feed them at first and the food I had out got eaten by squirrels! Right now I need someone to lift the birdseed bag and put into smaller containers. Hopefully son can do it soon one day when he gets off work early.

Hello again,
Monday will be 6 weeks post op! Huzzah. I was going to ask a question about weird purple/dark pink line that runs vertical to my scar and "discolors" or gets darker when standing or bending the knee. But on perusal of the Badge of Honor scar thread this looks to be a normal thing. What a relief ! I thought panicky infection thoughts at first, but this odd discoloration line goes pretty much away when knee is elevated. Has anyone else had this experience at about 6 weeks out?

Yep, I noticed especially in the shower. I figured it was due to th blood flow while standing for longer periods of time. As soon as I sat, elevated normal color returned.

readymade,
It is just increased vascularization of your healing tissue. As you heal it will go away (allow a year+). Glad we have lots of photos for you to peruse.
