Karen, Thanks for you're support. I'm sure up to talking to a #3. My only concern is in getting run over in Dallas. I haven't been to the big city in awhile, and doing so might force a stress test. People drive like fighter pilots down there :pnc:(I served in the Air Force, but I was never stationed with planes). But I'll fly or drive in outside of the rush hour (2-3am?).
I am glad to hear you're doing well on your THR's. I'm still impressed with the successes that occur through medical technology these days.

Well, I've read enough about you to know that you have been through a tremendous lot in your life, and I appreciate you encouragement. I'm having to deal, more so, with reluctance to assert my self.

There's no such thing as too early for a revision if it's needed. But there is such a thing as waiting too long! :wink:

I read the surgery notes again, and for the first time noted that the device is a "Zimmer VerSys 6 inch beaded fullcoatstem" with a "Trilogy constrained liner". Do you know anything about these things?

Thanks, Jim. It is like a medical miracle, to me....still can't believe I can fix dinner for the family without all that pain. I'm still getting used to the whole thing.

I felt like it was a stress test just driving up to the Chicago suburbs last weekend....maybe you could see a Dallas dr. about 6am on a Sunday - traffic shouldn't be too bad then. :wink:

Zimmer VerSys 6 inch beaded full-coat stem
A rasp is used to create the shape of the implant within the femoral canal. The rasped shape is slightly smaller than the implant itself. When the implant is inserted, a "press-fit" is achieved.

The porous surface allows natural bone then to grow into the implant to provide secure fixation. Fiber metal mesh or beads are two porous surface options that are strategically placed on the implant to allow for fixation at key areas-top, mid-stem, or overall fixation.

6 inch is, of course, the length of the stem. So you had number three below.

Trilogy constrained liner
The Trilogy Acetabular System Constrained Liner is a device consisting of a liner and reinforcing ring.

The plastic liner fits into the metal shell and articulates with metal femoral head. The opening of the Trilogy Constrained Liner is reduced slightly to allow for mechanical capture of the femoral head. The reinforcing ring fits into a groove on the outer surface of the plastic liner to reinforce the capture of the femoral head within the liner (in other words, the opening in the liner is slightly smaller diameter than that of the head and also reinforced with a metal ring which makes dislocation less likely)

Ugh! I well remember driving the 40 foot truck through Dallas in rain so hard I could hardly see and construction and traffic sooo thick. Miserable. But they do have WhatABurger there. We don't have any here and I've loved them since I was a kid growing up in Texas.

I've had problems with my knee and have had lots of improvement in the last six months. (It's been tendonitis and bursitis all along, I'm sure.) But your problems are so severe, I just can't imagine that they haven't figured out something. I would definitely go to a new doc and hope he can see something that the others are missing.
 
Jim, can someone go with you to help you in traffic? I know it's a zoo there. Or maybe you could fly and stay at a hotel near the doctor you are going to see. Then just use cabs for transportation.
 
Sure, Karen, I'll find a way. -spent one winter working in a Chicago suburb (Elk Grove?) years ago for the Airlines (had to drive from Elgin to there). It was my first first experience with a slick-road-full-season-winter-wonderland.
I cook dinner on a padded stool-it's hard to stand for long without low back pain. I have been working out little solutions for living for the last 7 months (adding to those from the first THR). -recently found a wide coffee mug that wont tip over and keeps stuff hot for 8 hours. Now I'm looking for crutches that are also wider at the bottom than the top in order to prevent falls :wink:. I have been more careful the last week (had two falls the previous 2 weeks).
Don't you have some animales, and are you tending to them?

Pat, yeah, the WhatABurgers are still around. I have been counting calories to keep the weight down and the strain off these joints. So I treat myself to a good burger only occasionaly (like my birthday). I'm not burning many calories these days. Last year I would ride a bicycle 30 miles, stop and have a burger and homemade pie and then ride another 30 to 50 miles. I'm learning to get excited about grilled chicken salads.

I can imagine what driving in that mess in the winter weather was like, for someone not used to it!! I'm originally from the burbs but now that i live in corn country that traffic gets to me. :hissy:

We do have animals - goats, sheep, chickens......but they are my boys' 4-H projects so THEY get to tend to them. Now that they are older (18, 15 and 11) I serve in a consultation and feed bill paying capacity only. :wink: In the past I've always helped with lambing & kidding too, but this year it happened in the middle of all this surgery stuff so all I did was check the barn cam a couple times in the middle of the night for them. (we put whoever is giving birth next in a stall that has a camera we can watch on tv in the house - much better than going out to check preggo sheep in the middle of the night when it's about 10 degrees!)

Yes, that might work. I sometimes eye the four footed ones at the drug store. But when I tried one it seemed that I needed one in each hand. Then I had 8 little feet with which to contend around my 2 big ones. But I may go and experiment again.
-thinking today that I'm destined to start a thread in the pre-op area. -or is there an area called the Revision Division?

We don't really have a revision forum, so it probably would be a good idea to start a new thread in Pre-Op at some point....especially when (or if) you find out you will be needing a revision.
 
Karen, Boy, that's great!-closed circuit husbandry! I need a house cam to watch Pete :dogkiss: sneaking up to the trash (he has a kleenex fetish). Actually, it sounds better than watching the news these days. And if I do a revision I may put in a dozen of those cameras (got to keep an eye on the grandkids).
Well, it's sarting to get hot here on the Great American Desert. This may be the only town in the world where it can rain and hail all night (like it did on Tuesday), and you can still see dust blowing across the road in the morning.

I know, Jim...I understand. I think your humor is wonderful and it's a great way to deal with all the things you're having to go through. I really do believe that a trip to the "big city" may be your salvation once you find a good surgeon there.....or two or three to interview with.

You're so welcome, Jim. I really am praying that you connect with the right surgeon to give you some relief. He's out there....just gotta find him!
