In pain, confusion and uncertainty after 4 months

The encouragment and support, like yours, that I have received on this site
have kept me from thinking that I'm mallingering, paranoid or just plain crazy. I'll keep pitching (asserting) until I can get some answers.
Thanks again, Jim

Wow, Leslie! Let me get on the computer here and wip up and print you an advanced degree in this stuff. Thanks for all the weekend reading. I feel like I'm sifting through an online hardware store investigating prothesis, cups, bowels, screws, nuts, bolts and conduit for nerve wiring. But thank God I don't have to go down the plumbing isle.
Thanks again for all the info. Jim :thmb:

Thanks Jimbo, but I'm mostly suffering from having too much time on my hands from this muscle strain. I was just getting out and kicking up my heels a little and now it's back to a slower pace for a few weeks so I have lots of time for research.

The more I hear though, the more I'm glad you're getting a 2nd opinion. I dunno if I'd want surgeon #1 touching me again if it was me. We have a lot of Orthopedists around, so I can freely fire anyone I'm not happy with.

And being armed with information has worked well for me to get the healthcare results I want. I'll stop with the information dump though and give you a little time to read.

Take care,

Leslie

Leslie, That's one of the interesting things about recovery. There's always something to do-even enjoy-if we can just set the frustration down with a setback/limitation/disappointment. I'd be the first to say that I don't always know this. And you may know it well. I'm catching up on some reading myself as well as some relationships during this time.
So, I want you to know that I really do appreciate the information you have given me in the course of waiting through your setback.
Take it easy and enjoy the ride as best you can. Jim

Josephine,
Thanks for the clarification(s). I do trust your expertise and support in these matters.
I do know that in my newer LTHR the cup has four screws in it whereas the RTHR has three (I think I understand you to say that the type of equipment may dictates the use of screws). Now after the LTHR surgeon #1 did say that he used a 4th screw because the bone was "thin". :pzld:
Jo, I'll say too that I am better at not speculating too much about what is going on. I'm willing to wait for, and exercise patience in taking the next steps (the nerve tests on 05/12) as directed by the doctor. I don't mean to say that I have given up assertiveness-I'll need to use it if things stall. I ran into an old gym-mate yesterday, and she was aghast at my condition :shk:(she's had two THR"s too). As she caght me on a relatively good day, I assured her that I was taking things in stride with only occasional outbursts of frustration.
I have the continuing assurance from Pete that all emotions are exceptable :dogkiss:
Jim

Aw Jim - you're welcome. I so hate it when things don't move along very quickly for people like yourself. I get frustrated for you!

Well folks, I am off to beatutiful but dusty Lubbock, TX today for the nerve tests. Actually the wind on the highway between here and there is test enough for nerves.
And I must say that this thread has been reserved for old guys and gals who may have to use cement, concrete nails, apoxy, duct tape, bubble packaging material and anything else to hold things and themselves together :hehe: And I just hope to make it through another winter here
(-don't want to even imagine another 20 of them).
So keep your fingers crossed (tie them together if need be) for me and for some good potential input.
Best wishes to all. Jim

Jim, I hope and pray that these doctors can figure out what is going on with you. Hang in there!!! And keep the duct tape handy just in case....

Hey, everyone! Thanks for all the well wishes. Well, they charged me up and zapped me down in Lubbock, but the neurologist said that the nerves are conducting and the muscles are strong. So that's not the problem. He attributed it to an anotomical problem at the joint itself. He said I might need to see someone in one of the big towns like Denver or Dallas and find someone who "has seen this kind of Zebra" (all I could think of was buying a ticket at a big city zoo).
I've got a date with surgeon #2 on 05/20 to talk about the results and possibilities beyond this point. I'll query him about all this and see what he says.

Today at lunch a colleague of mine said her husband (an R.N.) indicated, in his experience, that many hip surguries have to be re-done just out of a bad placement. He said there was more le-way with knee replacements. :skp:

I took another fall today with the crutches. I was making a left-face, 90 degree turn in my office, my armpit missed the crutch and I went down. Again, I wasn't any worse for it, and I got up and on track immediately. Please send any extra bubble packing material you all may have on hand.

Rebecca, isn't North Carolina south of the equator?. Isn't it like...like all jungle there? I just die in humidity. Actually I did go there once to look into a job (it was much greener than here), and at this point, I'm willing to entertain any viable suggestions.

Thanks again to all of you. I't very comforting to know that you all are checking and asking about me. Jim

Jim, I'm glad to hear your problem isn't something with your nerves. Although that still leaves you looking for an answer, I would think nerve issues might have been difficult to deal with.

You know, the recommendation that you see someone in a big city may be where you need to search for answers. It will be interesting to see what your next appointment brings.

I'm so glad you weren't hurt in your fall. Please, please be careful. We need you in one piece, my friend!!!

I'll still keep you in my prayers for a resolution to this problem. God knows you deserve to turn the corner and head down the GOOD road. (((HUGS))))

So should we send those packing peanuts too, or do you just want to stick with the bubble wrap!! Do be careful though, Jim!

I'm sure it's good news that there's no nerve problems but the search for answers is still on.....glad the next dr appointment isn't far off. Maybe he'll have some thoughts or even a referral to someone who has seen the zebra? Still hoping for all the best for you!

Hey Jim,
Well I am happy to hear it isn't the nerves and I am sure you are also. :D Glad to be done with that test Huh!!!!:shk:

But now to look for the Zebra which leaves you back to your next visit. In the meantime I think Rohan is righ you need some bubble wrap taped around you. You need to slow down and walk a little slower or something, your taking to many falls guy!!!:shk:

Good luck with your next visit and keep us posted..Good luck to you!!!!

Jim,

Well, it is verdant here, and it can be miserably humid, but now all the hospitals have air conditioning, so I think you would be okay. Seriously, I'm glad the tests didn't show any nerve problems. I do think you should see some surgeons in the nearest big city, maybe one with a university. We have Duke and UNC here, and those types of institutions attract great doctors. I'm not saying you can't find great doctors in smaller towns, but you need answers you haven't found where you are. You didn't go through all you've been through to be in pain and hobble around.

many hip surguries have to be re-done just out of a bad placement.
:whis: :whis: :whis:

Well, two down more to go, eh, Jim? Stay strong, my friend - you will get an answer eventually. God answers prayers .....

Jo,
I'm off to Lubbock again today to confer with physician #2. If nothing else I may find out if it's time for changing horses. -struggling somewhat with the situation (having dreams wherein I'm walking normally, only to wake up and have to contend with disappointment): I'm paying for any attempts at activity, but I'm able to work (sitting, listening, engaging). Jim
