THR I made it to the other side!

Yup, it was me who suggested the anti-nausea meds. They were a life saver for me. I just can't tolerate any heavy duty pain killers without them.

Sounds like you are doing very well. Keep up the good work! We look forward to your updates!

Well thank you very much Jaycey! It worked very well for me.

My RTHR was last Tuesday so that means I'm on my 5th day out. Doing quite well overall. I'd say my biggest problem is complete paranoia about dislocation - I'm taking every precaution they taught me very, very seriously. There have been a couple of "oh no!" moments where, for example, getting into bed my operated leg suddenly rotated inward with no warning and I screamed b/c it scared me (I scared everyone else in the house too, LOL) - but I adjusted immediately. The biggest risk there was probably a heart attack from fear, LOL. :heehee:

The "no bending forward" is the toughest rule for me. I never realized how often I did it until I suddenly couldn't. Now it's like I need a helping hand or my gripper/grabber for everything. This too shall pass.

Feeling a bit like a wussy b/c I'm still needing Norco roughly every 6 hours - I'm trying very hard to go as long as I can but when it starts hurting I want to prevent it from getting TOO bad. Actually it's 8:30am and I haven't taken any since last night at 10pm so that's a good sign! I'm starting to feel the pain throbbing a bit so I will get a dose when I get off of here.

I wish everyone a wonderful day! :)

Please don't cut down on your pain meds. There is nothing "wussy" about needing to control post op pain. And once you feel pain it's too late. Take your meds as directed around the clock. Right now the key is staying ahead of the pain.

Dislocation is very rare. Don't be worried about it. Just follow your restrictions and you will be fine. Early days yet!

Jaycey thank you so much, your words are very encouraging and comforting! :thankyou:

Hi LeoRuby, Don't let your pain get the upper hand..Do take your meds by the clock...It will make recovery so much easier.
Remember...elevate....ice...rest...Love those naps! Take care.
Annie

Leo~I tried to hold off too in the beginning. Big mistake! Many people here let me know how unwise a choice this is as well as my body. I am 3 weeks, 3 days out, and I still need some type of pain medication. I use ultracet. My husband...he is a pt so he has some knowledge in this area...says recovery is not a race.

anniemg thank you for the support! I took a lovely 3 hour nap today with my precious kitty cat -- it was blissful. :kittykiss:

calikat - love how your husband said "recovery is not a race" - I must remember this. Very good point. Thank you for the support and for sharing your experience!

My doc only gave me 30 pills with no refills. I am not a good "math person" but I don't think that will do....I'll be calling her office tomorrow to confirm 2 week appointment, and to beg for a refill because I just don't think what I have will see me through for 2 more weeks. :sigh:

OK I know they say "there's no such thing as a stupid question" but here goes: I keep seeing the advice "elevate, ice, rest." And I've got the ice and resting down. But what do ya'll mean by elevate? I am trying hard to be comfortable and follow the 90 degree rule in my armchair with the cushion pad - I try to put my feet on a small stool or on the floor but just cannot find a good position. My usual position pre-surgery was sitting in same chair with legs/feet propped on another chair in front of me. Would that break the rule? I get confused so easy with all the "don'ts"!!! :gaah:

And the post op blues have hit me today. Lots of random weeping. But thanks to this board/forum I already knew it was totally normal - so thank you thank you thank you to the wonderful admins who put out all this terrific information. I could not make it through this without ya'll.

Your right LeoRuby , I don't think it's possible to elevate in a seated position , and there is no such thing as a stupid question . Every question asked on this forum provokes a thought process in everyone who reads it , they ask it to themselves and if applicable to their situation ( and maybe not ) they try to answer it or imagine them self in the position being asked about , that's happened for me , thanks .

It seems to me that I'll have to be lying down to elevate the operated leg and thanks calikat for the link .

I've found I've learned so much from peoples questions on here because most of the time I've not thought about the situation for myself or read advice on it and so those questions are helping mine and other's recovery .

I now know how to elevate :)

Thanks calikat - very helpful info - just what I needed! :thankyou:

PDH63 good points you make - I often see someone else ask a question and I think "oh good, I need to know that too." I hope all is well with your recovery!

I spent the majority of my first two weeks using that pillow stack...LOL. I would prop myself on my bed with my leg on the pillows with ice and read/post on BoneSmart. ;)

calikat that sounds like a good plan to me, lol. I'm hobbling with my walker from chair to bathroom to bed in an endless loop. I'm adding the pillow stack today thanks to your info - yay!!! :egypdance:

Ya LeoRuby I just cant stop myself from being an annoying bffoon today so why not pop in here and take your thread hostage for a second.I have a few responses to the ninety degree thing in a couple of other threads out there, one just this morning in Sassypants thread. You really should read them.I think you would agree theyre a clever witty way to arrange a group of words into nonsensical gibberish like Im doing here.As for the pain meds I advise taking as many as you can for as long as you can, this to will end soon enough. And stop beating yourself up about taking them. Its one of those things that bugs me about all this.If Im in pain I take a pain killer and thank the god I pray to that he invented the Poppy plant.H E double hockey sticks before my first surgery, that other Roofmaster was on the verge of trying straight up freakin HEROIN if it would stop the pain.Oh the PAIN.The pain of being alive. Its almost over.Stop worrying about pills and degrees.Besides, whos to say its not really 72 and a half degreea?Be at peace.

Roofmaster you crack me up, thanks for popping into my thread - you're welcome anytime! I am not "against" painkillers at all - I just (earlier, not now) had a phase where I felt like I "should" have been feeling better. I'm fully over that now, lol. :snork:

Now my job is to get my doctor and my insurance to give me MORE PILLS. I left the hospital with a 30 pill bottle of Norco - no refills. Can take one every 6 hours. I do - because I NEED it. NO guilt whatsoever. However this supply will not last much longer taken as directed. Doc's office is a pain-in-the-butt phone system so I must gather my wits about me and make a call soon to alert them to please send in another script (and pray my insurance approves). Wish me luck!

Well I'm happy and excited! :spin:

I had just written a lengthy, sad post about how depressed I was that I wasn't recovering as well as I had hoped, that my expectations might have been too high, etc. etc....

Well as I was typing it out - my PT arrived for in-home therapy, so I closed my laptop without hitting "send." He was here for about an hour, and let me tell you, my spirits and confidence have SOARED! :yay:

I am capable of much more than I thought I was! :happydance:

I had been feeling like an invalid, and was deeply in the post-op blues - and just by him showing me all I could do - well it sure made me feel 100% better. I'm on my way!!! :egypdance:

I hope everyone is doing well today. If I had hit "send" on my post an hour ago, it would have been much different; so I just wanted to report my HAPPY update! :puppysmooze:

Yay, glad to hear that :happydance: . keep up the good spirits and it will reflect in your recovery!

Glad your PT went well! All is not lost. Regarding your pain meds refill, typically your family doctor takes over this prescribing. Try their office.

thanks for the tip Jaycey! I have maybe 3 days worth left, so it's time to get rolling with it!

:dancy: great to hear your ''lepping'' round the place and recovery is good .
It's amazing the difference a day makes :) ( or an hour )
