HELLO @2 for Jeff ! great attitude! i am new here and just wanted to say :hi: and tell you i am rooting for you this friday! All will be wonderful when you wake up less the horrible pain! i will be going under Dr. shineyknife December 8th--will look forward to hearing your post-op recovery stories-- thinking of you!!!:flwrysmile:

@2 for Jeff

That is right mister....you go in to surgery and kick that hips butt. It obviously doesn't know you have all of us behind you...Just like. Braveheart, the movie....:yes!:

Thank you, @Me2 ! Yes, show us your cat(s)!!

@2 for Jeff
You've got that fighting spirit. Give 'em hell!

Almond is delicious... Beautiful coloring. Lap cat like mine? Your scratching post looks terrific... Would put PetSmart to shame. Hope it's the scene of much satisfying clawing. We love these furry kids, right?

Temp here has been around 60-ish -- cold for us thin-skinned Floridians, but I wouldn't trade it for the world given what the rest of the country looks like. Hopefully the weather will be totally irrelevant to your recovery. Be glad you're not in Buffalo (why does anyone LIVE there!?). Oh boy -- 2 more sleeps!!

@CanukTriMom yes that was my angel Rudy aka the rootman..he passed away Sept 21st..he was my heart..was born with water on the brain.. But lived almost 10 years by the grace of God and all our love :puppysmooze: nice to hear from u sweetie!!

@theweezyone
So sorry about your loss.. You must miss him terribly. That's the hardest thing about pets -- their time with us is so limited and therefore maybe even more precious.

Good luck next month!!

@theweezyone Hi and welcome to BoneSmart. If you don't have a big support group or the people that you talk to just don't understand what your up against. Don't worry a bit. The members here are so kind and warm, you will feel as if they are walking right beside you.
I will be here with the others for you all the way to Dec. 8th

@CanukTriMom I should receive the phone call tomorrow between 1pm and 7pm with my surgery time.
Well, I pretty much listened to everyone's advice and I'm sitting here Way to calm.
I think you all can make the pharmaceutical companies go belly up, because I have a draw full of medicine for anxiety and don't need any. I hope I feel the same in the hospital. If not I got a secret weapon.
I am good enough, I am strong enough, and I am tough enough.
(Motivational words from CanukTriMom)

One other thing to remember......once you get in the car and head to the hospital, things move so quickly. You'll find a host of friendly smiling faces of your medical team all working to make sure you are comfortable and happy going into surgery. It's a big day for you, but for them it's just another day at the office. They know their jobs so well!!! It's second nature! You will be in expert, caring hands and in recovery before you can blink and say....when do I get my surgery??? It will be over with that fast! Best of luck. I know you're going to be just fine.

thanks so much @2 for Jeff for the well wishes! they are greatly appreciated and yes--love it here already! so many wonderful people here! my saving grace in these pre-op scaredy cat days! LOL-- also- @shrinkette thank you so much for your support--yes--losing them is so very hard--the time they have with us is so brief--yet the love they give while they are here--there is nothing like it in the world! :puppysmooze: wouldn't trade it for anything! thanks all for all the love and support! looking forward to updating everyone on my new hip! when i get it! ;)

Well I made it. One day to go and still very focused. I dropped Chloe off at school and just finished eating the hospital recommended low fiber breakfast.
My wife took me out for dinner last night for some Thai and Laotian food.
Whoo! Spicy! But delicious.
Just sitting here going over everything in my head. I'm wondering how and if I will keep you all up to speed after my surgery.
Can I bring my IPad or IPhone to the hospital? Will I be to out of it to even type? Should I just wait until I'm home on Sunday to say I MADE IT!

It is Friday 21 November in my timezone and if I am correct early afternoon Thursday... One more sleep @2 for Jeff

I took my iPad into hospital with an extension cord and a power board for phone and iPad chargers etc.. Not sure of the protocols in the US hospitals though.

Thinking of you mate!

It's probably best if you hold off on the computer at the hospital until you are back in your room and awake. Hospitals typically don't like the responsibility of having expensive electronics to look out for. Have your wife hold on to it and bring it to you if you feel up to using it. If not, that's okay! We'll know you're in good hands and can wait until you're home again. Heck, we may even hear your gleeful shouts all 'round the world once you're in recovery!:thumb:

@CanukTriMom Hi Cheryl, my cold therapy system has a timer setting on it. 15 minutes, 30, 45, and 1 hour. It also has a switch that says continuos.
What do you recommend ? It can stay cold for like 8 hours.
Also I just got the phone call. I have to be in the hospital at 8:30 on the morning.

Jeff, there is no reason not to use the machine in continuous mode if it helps your pain levels....and I think it will. Icing after joint replacement should be done for period of an hour or more for maximum benefit. Just be sure you have a cloth between your skin and the ice source to prevent damaged tissue. Here is a thread from our BoneSmart Library that describes more details about the benefits of icing.

Ice to control pain and swelling
