TKR I have a new knee!

Oh, I couldn't agree with you more, Judy. Once these 2 musts are out of the way, I can get back to recovering. As soon as I sign my contract, I'm going to ask them to delay my start date to 10/1. That will be 9 weeks recovery and I think a reasonable request. Leaving the school and transitioning over to just the clinical system will be a joy, it is just that everything happened at a tough time....the story of my life! :heehee:
 
Oh dear poor you, Nyland. Can you not go to a central point and have them bring the relevant papers to you? That would be the sensible and kind thing for them to do. Either nothing happens or everything happens at once, sods law :umm:

Well...........the drama continues. Everything happened so fast today!!!!!!!
My PT was coming at 2:30 PM. Just before she came, I went to the br. It HURT like, OMG, this hurts. I had a sense of urgency, too. My back hurst and yesterday I just didn't feel well. I had BLOOD in my urine. I called my PCP's office. They made and appointment for tomorrow morning. In the middle of my PT, my PCP called. She said that I needed to get a urine specimen to the lab before 6 PM. I had to finish my PT. My husband and son had already left to go to golf. My DIL and grand daughter were here, but they already had an appointment to run to. My daughter, God bless her came and brought me to the lab. My PCP called and told me that an antibiotic was waiting for me at the pharmacy. I already took 1 dose. Now I guess I just have to wait until the I get the lab results. If I didn't have the other symptoms, I'd be freaking out that I had cancer. One more obstacle and I still have the job appointments to take care of. Am I being tested? Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Oh Nyland, how scary for you. So they are sure it is just a UTI? You would have probably noticed it sooner if you weren't on pain meds for the knee. Question, do you ride a stationary bike that has a regular seat? That can cause irritation in that area, there are other things too of course.:whistle:

They really don't know anything until the lab results. She put me on antibiotics because of my other symptoms. No bike here. Nothing but gentle stretches. Nothing to cause blood in the urine. Oh brother. I hope it is a UTI. My back is killing me, so maybe a kidney infection?
 
So sorry you're having a little setback, Nyland. Please don't spend your time imagining the worse--it's so draining when you do that. Most likely that it is a UTI and the antibiotics will take care of it. Of course, having to take additional meds is never fun. Keep us posted. We care.

Just wanted you to know I am praying for you Nyland, and I hope it's just a simple UTI. Hopefully you can get some sleep tonight and they will call you in the AM to tell you that you are fine and its just that UTI.

As for the work stuff. I don't remember what you are using to ice down. Is it a cryo-cuff or system like that? If so take it with you and keep iced up while in those boring meetings. I would hope that you have a handicap decal for parking so that you can park closer, if not look into it (usually just have to have your doctor fill it out and pay a small fee). Other than that stuff, just take it slow. I am sure if you are late to one thing or another they will understand with your current condition.

Oh Nyland, thinking of you. I do hope everything gets sorted out and it isn't anything serious. As far as the work thing is concerned I worked for a college / university and that sounds typical. Sometimes I think they just try to make things difficult.

Thanks, Michael. I have the cuff, use the ice packs, and my go to frozen peas. I do have a handicap placard, too. The think about one of the campuses, is, it is part old hospital, part new fangled building. It is a maze. No parking, even handicap valet is easy. Thank goodness my husband is coming. As for the Monday orientation, my boss told me she would kill me is I went. So, I'm going to tell them I have to postpone that after I sign my contract. The funny thing is, it is just red tape. I have worked for the hospital longer than the people who will be conducting the orientation. Any policies that they wil go over were either written or had to be approved by my office.

You you it is funny....I think I have posted it here, too.....I had to have nausea meds by iv in the hospital and have had a squeaky stomach since I got home. I wonder if it is a UTI that has gotten progressively worse with time. I guess I will know today.

Medical burocracacy is alive and well at UMass. Not any different from anywhere else!
I hope you are feeling better, and that you get through the hoops of your job switch.
A test? maybe. More likely just another detour on the road to recovery. Don't over-do it getting across campus. I like the idea of hubby pushing you!

Maybe I could expedite the process if I were to show up in a blue wig and short skirt, huh? :rotfl: Are you familiar with the Memorial campus? You have to take some elevators up one floor to get to the 1st floor. It is a maze. That is the HR I must go to, though. I'm feeling better today, but no lab results yet. I can't wait until I I sign my contract. That will be a huge relief! How are you doing? Great to chat!!!!!
 
So, thought that I would post a POSITIVE update! The antibiotics are doing their job, the bleeding has stopped, and I am feeling pretty well. My ROM was at its best today! 104 all by myself. I was so thrilled. Baby steps, but in the right direction. :egypdance: My pain meds were switched from oxycodone to percocet. They do their job, and I only use them when I need them. Today I took several short walks outside and then iced/elevated.
 
YAY for positive updates. Weird they switched you to percocets since basically that is only adding in tylenol on top of the oxycodone. They sent me home from the hospital on oxys and gave me guidelines on taking tylenol on the side if I needed it. Did they change the amount of oxy you take with each dose (i.e. did they go from 500 oxy to 750/325 percocets)?

You know, you are right! I just looked at my prescription bottles. I was on 5 mg oxycodone 1 or 2 every 4 hours, and this last prescription is percoset 5 mg/325 1 -2 every 4-6 hours. I wonder if it was because I had to call to make sure I had pain medication over the weekend? This prescription was written by the NP. Both work. I get along just fine during the day, but need something at night and sometimes when I first get up. This morning I iced when I got up, before my PT, and that worked great.
Things are looking up. :yay:

WOW! Great for you! I have great respect for all of you that had bilateral replacements. I think you are all amazing. Keep up the wonderful and amazing recovery!
