TKR I have a new knee!

Yesterday I sat outside and watched the kids play in the pool. Today I am getting my hair done. (Boy, do I need it! :rotfl:) Baby steps in the right direction. :yay:

Wow Nyland, I just got caught up on you posts and are really being challenged for sure, however you are kick'n them back!:console2: It's been 1 month today for you since you and your new knee have been introduced I hope thing are getting a little easier to bare and that your UTI is well on it's way to being healed!
I hope all goes well with the new job contract signing, however I would leave the blue wig and short skirt home because that might chang the dynamic some!:skep:
Stay well and stay positive all good things are yet to come!:friends:

Nyland,
Just reading all your travails and laughing a bit at your university. I work at one also and had to work full time for 7 days at the 6 week mark. It was rough and I am now doing part time. There is ONE handicapped space at my building which is always taken up and I have gone round and round with parking. So I feel your pain, but it is also just so laughable sometimes b/c it is so ridiculous! Anyway, good luck to you, will be thinking about you!

Hi Michael!
How are you doing?
You know, you are right! I just looked at my prescription bottles. I was on 5 mg oxycodone 1 or 2 every 4 hours, and this last prescription is percoset 5 mg/325 1 -2 every 4-6 hours. I wonder if it was because I had to call to make sure I had pain medication over the weekend? This prescription was written by the NP. Both work. I get along just fine during the day, but need something at night and sometimes when I first get up. This morning I iced when I got up, before my PT, and that worked great.
Things are looking up. :yay:
Hi Nyland, i was reading your comment on the meds, and I thought oxycodone and percocet were the same thing, with the percocet being the brand name , and the oxycodone being the generic name. Will tag Josephine: and see if thats right. But if they are both working well, it doesn't really matter, keep up the good work:flwrysmile:

Hi Silver,
I transitioned from the medical school to the hospital yesterday. I had an all day orientation. I was exhausted when I got home, but I was so glad to be out. I'm so bored today. I can't wait to get back to work. I can leave when I've had enough, but now that I am feeling better, I just can't wait to get back and I also can't wait to drive. Thanks a million for your well wishes!
Sheryl,
Yes, they are exactly the same, tylenol in the percoset. The percoset works perfectly. 1 every 6 hours or 4 if I am out and about and need it. I HOPE my OS will refill when I go on 9/6. I think I will need them the first couple of weeks back to work. How are you doing?

hi thanks Nyland, i wanted to be sure it was the same. i am doing ok, just waiting til we get new insurance next year and will begin to again seek a new os that will help me.

Nyland,
Full time was too much for me to begin with, and it made me much more stiff, but I love part time.
Do make sure you get up at least once an hour if not more, or you pay for it!
I think I will go back full time in two more weeks. Driving is awesome, he let me drive at 4 weeks, was SO relieved!
Good luck with it all! Silver

Part time works for me. I'd even be fine with less than that. I just want to feel more like me. I really hope that I get cleared to drive a week from Thursday. I'll have my husband putt putt around with me for practice. I drive like an old lady on a Sunday, anyway. I take my time on the back, country roads. This weekend we will bring lots of pillows and my ice machine to my office. I will definitely get up and walk around every hour. Now it is my un-operated knee that doesn't like to walk. My new knee LOVES to walk.

So, I think I owe an update, especially to those waiting on deck. As I told you, I think I turned the corner last week. The good news is every, single day is a little bit better and I'm a little bit stronger. We, my new knee and I, are getting along just fine. I know my knee is still healing and the swelling gets in the way of the ROM that the OS expects, but I'm ok with the slow progress. I'm thrilled with the progress, though. I walk so much better than I did before my surgery. The OTHER knee is the pest. My new knee doesn't hurt one bit when I walk. I can't wait until I post that this is the best thing I have ever done. I think I will someday soon. I'm getting there!

So glad to hear how well your new knee is doing. Maybe the other will pick up the pace soon!

To clarify what you told Sheryl about Percocet, oxycodone and Percocet are not identical. Oxycodone by itself is just oxycodone. Percocet is oxycodone plus tylenol, which needs to be taken into account when taking any other tylenol. I know you basically said that, but wasn't sure it came across perfectly clearly.

Thanks, Janet. Definitely want that to be clear. Tylenol is not something to mess with.
So, how are you doing/feeling?

I'm doing and feeling great. I had weaned off Percocet at 8 weeks, but told the OS that I really wasn't as comfortable so wasn't feeling that great. He gave me more, and now that I'm at 12 weeks, I'm weaning off of it again, taking it only at bedtime as I step it down. This time I feel much better and comfortable without it. We were on vacation for 16 days this month and I was walking on sand and up and down hills effortlessly and pain free! Still need to support myself getting out of chairs and Cookie doesn't like going down steps, but I'm So happy, over all!

Yay, Nyland and Nyland's new knee! It's a great feeling when you can really feel the progress, isn't it?

Janet,
I am so glad that you are doing well! Your vacation sounds lovely and was well deserved. The sand and ocean are good for the should. What a serene and happy was to recover. I have so much admiration for all of your brave folks that had bilateral replacement. You should feel so proud of all you have accomplished. You had a stressful before surgery time and I'm so glad that everything is going well now!
Hi Kneeper,
Thanks for the little cheer. It sure does feel good to have progress.

Nyland, I just wanted to thank you for that post to me in Luckylady's thread. Didn't want to respond to it in that thread though as I know it is against the "rules". Speaking of rules, guess I should look around this forum, is there a bunch of rules we are suppose to be abiding by? Boy am I opening myself up for a lashing if there is...:loll: ok, trying to keep up here and lots of posts to try and remember, but aren't you the one that have been retaining water? I think it was you, did you find out what is going on with that? I think once they find out what the problem is, you are going to start peeing and not come out of the bathroom for weeks. It has to be uncomfortable, hope you get relief soon. You take care now, and keep being you, I was glad to see how you stood up to protect LuckyLady when she got bashed for no reason. Someone must have her undies in a bunch...
