TKR I have a new knee!

[Bonesmart.org] I have a new knee!
Nyland, you lucky, lucky girl! You've got an OS who gets it!!!! Seems like I told you about that elevating and icing every change you got. Smart OS to agree with me.:heehee: You follow your doc's orders and that leg will be looking like the real thing and you'll be on your way down recovery road with a big smile on your face.

Take care of yourself and that new knee. We care.

Thanks Michael and Judy!
Yes, Judy, you and everyone told me to ice and elevate. Sorry.

Nyland, I'm glad too that you got rid of your first pt. I felt like my pt people were bending too hard. I told the doctor and he more or less told me to tell them no force bending. I did and they told me that they consider this stretching. But stretching should not bring me up off the table and almost make me cry. They usually did this in the beginning after I do theball exercise. They no longer are doing this bending with my knee over their arm. Just been since Wednesday though. I love all the other exercises but feel lie I'm never going to get past 97 (that's what thy can get me to with stressful bending) because it just feels Like it will not go any further

Never have had the hair loss. Hope tat stops.

Is the 3000-4000 mg Tylenol included in say the 5/325 hydrocodone I take? Good luck in your recovery. I was five weeks yesterday.

Hi Cflower. From where I am sitting, sounds like you are doing fantastic.
There is no tylenol in my oxycodone. He wants me to utilize added tylenol as needed and cut down my 15 mg every 3 hours of oxycodone to 10 mg every 4 hours, then 10 mg every 6 hours.
My OS give me a sheet and note to the PT. There are only 2 exercises that I am allowed to do after Monday. I guess I could be the poster child for why you should never antogonize angry, inflamed, swollen tissues.
Take care and thanks so much for sharing. What a roller coaster!

Thanks Michael and Judy!

Ahem, excuse me....... but if you look at my first post to you in this thread, post #4, I told you that before anyone else!! :heehee:

And your OS deserves a gold star!

On my thread "ACK! OMG! TKR on May 29th" I posted on #409, also #407, #391, # 341, #333, #301, #276 about my physical therapy routine for several weeks. It is quite possible to work it gently without stressing it and hurting it. And I didn't even start PT until 3 weeks after surgery.

Elisea, do you know what your rom is now. What was it in the beginning and how fast did you improve rom. I bet you weren't 95° 5 weeks though. Feels really tight now and I have to go to PT in a few minutes :( they usually put me on bike for first 10 minutes.

Yesterday it was 115 degrees. And no, at 5 weeks I was at 89 degrees. (Read my thread and the posts I mentioned and it will tell you my ROMS along the timeline.) :)

Oh, Nyland--I'm so pleased your OS not only gets it and addressed your leg issue, but may do something about that horrible PT.
My outpatient PT was nowhere near as bad as some people report, but in retrospect I think I might have let him push me a bit harder than I should have early on.

Yes, Elisea, you are so right. You did tell me, and I should have listened. Sorry, my friend. I'm learning the hard way, huh?

Just proves how invaluable it is to have friends in the same situation. :friends:

Sorry Nyland, haven't been able to get on the computer much these last few days. So sorry to hear about your leg swelling and the bad time you were having, but what an excellent consultant you have and so lucky to have him to sort you out, smart guy :thumb:

That first pt you had is the pits. She shouldn't be in her job at all. It almost sounds like she wants to punish her patients :yikes: You are so rid of her.

You can continue forward now, my dear friend :dancy:

Nyland, I'm so glad you are finally getting the respect that you deserve!:thumb: Your OS sounds like a peach and certainly did right by you! Now you'll be able to get back on that recovery road in a postive way! Take care and stay well!:friends:

My swelling is down considerably. My TED stocking feels so good. I know, I know....I was the one that dreaded the TED. I've cut my pain pills to as needed, rather than every 3 hours. The MilkOMagnesia worked! The cryo cuff feels great! It's a good day. My husband surprised me with a birthday cake.

Aaah, is it your birthday today? If so, many happy returns :dancy:

So good to hear your swelling is down and everything else is good. You're on the up now :yay:

Well happy birthday Nyland.

I was dreading the TED's but they never put them on me and they didn't tell me I had to wear them once I got home. Even in the hospital they never had me wearing them. I do have a pair that was sent with me (still in the bag, unopened) from my original (surgery) hospital. When they did my doppler everything was normal so I guess I just don't have to wear them.

Thanks for the birthday wishes! 56 with a new knee.
Michael,
Sounds to me that you don't need the compression of the TED. Good for you! You are doing so well!

Definitely glad that I don't need them. The annoyance from this hair growing back is enough to drive me crazy, adding in the hose would probably have drove me over the edge. I'm not one that likes to wear socks, I'm happiest barefoot or in flip flops.
