TKR I have a new knee!

Thanks. ladies. I worked really hard to lose 30 plus pounds before surgery. OS orders. I joined Jenny Craig so that i could lose for surgery. After surgery, I went weeks where I couldn't hold anything down. Looking back, man, I was sick! No wonder I was miserable! Now everything is better.

Nyland, you are doing so well. I've been shaving my legs for ages now, and no one has told me off yet! Perhaps they are just more relaxed over here.
Your weight loss is fantastic, I don't understand US sizes, but size 4 certainly sounds good. In preparation for my op I lost about 21 lbs and since my op another 8 lbs, and I've come down 3 or 4 dress sizes, but I certainly needed it.
I went for a walk in the park today, and that went well, it still wipes me out though, so I have complete admiration for you going back to work.

Thanks, Janet and Jess!
Yes, Janet, it took a while, but I can finally appreciate my new knee. How are you doing?
Jess, I so understand the getting tired easily! It comes over me with no rhyme or reason. Sunday morning we had the kids and grand kids for breakfast, did a few errands, and I put chicken in the oven. I sat in the recliner planning to watch football with my husband and little princess, and I fell fast asleep.
As for sizes, I saw Kirstie Alli on Dr. Oz last night. She was claiming that she wears a size 4. She's NOT skinny or thin, and neither am I! I just found some things that fit and look nice, even though one leg is longer than the other. :rotfl: Jess, my surgeon is a man of rules. No shaving, must wear the TED...I had to bypass him (go to his admin to his NP) for pain medication at 6 weeks. My daughter told me to borrow her baby fingernail scissors and start snipping the hairs. How embarrassing is that? CONGRATULATIONS on the weight loss and the walking! How are you feeling? Are you still still and swollen? I am. It is better, though.

You know, nothing was ever said to me about shaving my legs. I remember many years ago when my mother had this done, she was aghast that the nurses shaved her leg before surgery. She had never shaved it/them before. No, she was not a hairy Bohemian, she just had perfectly hairless legs. And that, my friends, is one of the great things I inherited from my mother. Does it make up for lousy knees? Not quite, but it's something.

What a great thing to inherit. I honestly and truly never realized that I was so hairy! In fact, before these few weeks, I may have even said that I didn't have hairy legs. Was I DELUSIONAL!!!!!! :loll:

Today's update:
Feeling yucky. Just got home from work. Icing and elevating my tired, swollen knee. Should take a pain pill, but I'm too tired to get up at the moment.

My surgeon told me from the stress of surgery and the extra blood flow to your legs will cause more hairiness. He said even little kids when they break a leg or arm when they take the cast off, lots and lots of hair. When the hair on my legs stated coming through my compression stockings, that was it, shaved it off. I see my OS tomorrow and don't think he will say anything as I am off the coumadin now.

Oh Nyland I can't wait to be where you are! I want to feel better again. I am where you were with the yucky pukey guts and feel miserable becuz of it! But at least you give me hope of better days. This coming Thursday will be 3 weeks for me, so with a bit of patience I will be there soon too. Keep up the good work! Hugs!

Sending you a big hug! If you read backwards, you'll see that I felt exactly like you do. I was in such a funk. It does get better, sweetie, I promise! You turn the corner and then it is baby steps....a few forward, one or 2 back...but then something clicks and you know things are not only better, but you anf your knee are on the same team. I did too much today. It is a Tuesday thing. Same last Tuesday. I'm icing and elevating and feeling much better. I'm here for you. I know how much it helps when you're feeling bad to have someone understand and care. :friends:

Nyland thank you! You just brought tears to my eyes, I feel so rotten and alone.
Although my hubby is a love, I feel at times like I am failing myself. Thanks for caring!

Oh, honey, I know exactly what you mean. I promise it will get better. Have some chocolate, it makes everything better!

I'm so sorry. I know what you mean about the effort just to take a pill. Hope tomorrow's better.

When my wrist came out of a cast after almost eight weeks last year, it was really hairy, very dark hair, and I'm very fair skinned. Yuk! It just disappeared on its own gradually.

Aww Nanners. Wish I could send you a hug. :console2: Those alone moments are THE WORST, I think, even worse than the pain sometimes. Nyland had good advice especially about the chocolate. I have vented on BoneSmart and felt less alone -- sometimes because of your kind words. We're here for you too.

Glad to hear you are doing well Nyland.
I can so relate to the "to tired to get up to take a pain med" after work; been going through that myself.
Plus, we are trying to stretch my IT band after more than a decade of limping and things are not going well. They say ice ice ice but hard to do when at work.

Anywayyyyy, sounds like you are going onward and upward. Good for you!

Good morning, ladies!
I'm feeling fantastic today. Mornings are always wonderful. I will remember to make my days shorter for the next few weeks.
That is so good to know about the hair. maybe I'm not turning into an ape? :heehee:
Hi Elisea!
I so understand that it is tough to ice at work. I have great intentions and lots of puddles. My chair is so uncomfortable, too. I'm thinking of getting a recliner office chair.
Have a fantastic day everyone. See you after work.

[Bonesmart.org] I have a new knee! The recliner office chair----what a novel concept---I could have used one of those the last 5 years I worked! Of course, I may not have gotten much work done. (I honestly didn't know there really were chairs like this for the office until I was looking for a pic for this post. Learn something new every day.)

The pic is a thumbnail, click on it for a larger view.

Debbie,

You were talking about kids having casts off. When my daughter was 13 she broke her wrist and had to wear a cast for 3 months. They changed it each month, but when they finally took it off the last time, her arm was covered with thick black hair. Of course being 13, this appalled her. She made me take her straight home where she promply cut it all off. It was a little weird. :eeeuw:

Nyland glad to hear you are having another good day! Gives me hope and I know I just need a bit more patience. I will find those good days too. Hugs and hope your day continues to be wonderful. Huggles!
