TKR I have a new knee!

I take them too and have only had one UTI in years and use to get them often. But the doc did make me go off of them 7 days before surgery. Not sure why, but had to go off of a lot of my over the counter meds.

We have a rocking chair (which I have been trying to persuade Ray to get rid of for years) I might try that.
Rocking chair is good, you could also try (if you can find one) a skateboard. See the exercises link in my sig.

Sonja and Debbie,
My aunt told me to take the cranberry tablets, too. She is a physician. Tomorrow when we are out and about going to my OS appointment, HR loose ends, bringing my work release to employee health...all of those fun errands, we will stop at Trader Joes and get a huge bottle of cranberry tablets. Thanks for the tip. You girls rock!

That is great to hear Nyland. Make sure you find the potency that you only have to take one pill a day. I just got mine at WalMart.

Nyland, I just checked my bottle and guess the last pills I got were from Costco. They are called Trunature Cranberry and they are 300mg per pill. One a day. The ones at WalMart are the common brand they have there. Just check to see how many pills a day it takes. I feel I take so many pills a day I want to keep my pill numbers to a minimum.

Thanks so much! Anything to not have an awful UTI again. Another question: I have to have a urinalysis 3 days after my last day on the antibiotics. Should I wait to take the cranberry supplement until after the lab work comes back? They want to make sure it is totally cleared up. Apparently, these UTIs are not only a nuisance, but can cause infections in our new knees. UGH On a bright note, I went to Sephora, Yankee Candle, Chicos, and the shoe store today. I got another pair of Ecco yukatan sandals and Ecco Mary Janes. I read so much about getting new shoes after the replacement. I still have a bad knee that needs to be replaced, so for now I feel safest with the Ecco support. I got pretty black crossover tank dress with a cute jacket for work, and some philosophy coconut cupcake shower soap. My daughter, grandson, and I had a lovely few hours.

I can't see why you can't take them now, I mean there wouldn't be anything wrong with you drinking cranberry juice. Sounds like a good time shopping, retail therapy is so much more fun then physical therapy.

No costco here, but we have Walmart.
What a great group of friends!! :friends:

UPDATE! 6 weeks OS appointment:
My dead pan OS, smiled the biggest smile imaginable, said congratulations, and shook my hand. He was borderline giddy about my ROM, extension, and how well I walked! He cleared me to go back to work and drive. I can't go in the pool until my scar is totally healed. I actually thought that it was, but he pointed out a few dots and said when they were healed I could go in the pool. He gave me a prescription to his preferred out patient OT. I asked for a refill for my pain pills. He said NO, to take tylenol. I had one left and just had to take it. It was a long day with a lot of walking. I'll see how I do when I get home from work on Monday. If I really feel that I need them after I work all day, I will call and try to convince him.
Tomorrow I see my PCP for this UTI. Finished the 3rd round of antibiotics and STILL have symptoms. I stopped tonight to get cranberry pills and AZO. Took the first dose tonight. Fingers crossed.
I now that my PCP will NOT prescribe for my operated leg, but I'm going to talk to her about Ultram since I STILL have a bad leg. Kill 2 birds with one stone. If she doesn't oblige, I'll go see my rheumy.
I brought pillows and an ottoman to my office today and got old fashioned ice bags. I can fill them at the caf.
Oh, he told me I needed my left knee done. I told him I need to wait 6 months because of the new job. Because I had to RUSH back this time, I'm going to plan it so that I will be healed to go in the pool and take the full 12 weeks to sit in my pool.
I really did have a good visit. I go back in 6 weeks.

I am very sorry to read that you are still fighting that UTI, but I am very excited and happy for you that you were cleared to work and to drive! That is awesome!! Hope that UTI clears up ohs os quickly---but here's a toast to your other successes!

Sounds like a good visit with your OS and boo on the UTI. That will be funny if you take that AZO and go give them a sample of your bright orange pee. What pain pills won't your OS give you? I figure I have enough other arthritis I can always get something. Tramadol seems to work pretty good for me and with a side benefit of making me not hungry. My husband with his neck pain has been stealing some of my old ones and he also said he is not hungry.

Hi Nyland, that is an excellent 6 week report. I am so happy for you that you have progressed so well. Sorry to hear you are still having symptons for the UTI, but I'm sure this will clear up soon. Sorry to hear that you will be needing to have your left knee replaced also. But you know where to come.....:heehee:

Debbie that's interesting to hear about Tramadol affecting the appetite. Maybe that's why I'm hardly eating at all?

Thanks, Kathy and Debbie!
I'm off to my PCP for the UTI. I DID take the AZO and I am peeing neon orange. Oh well!
My OS won't give me ANYTHING. All of our docs are very cosevative about pain meds. I am going to ask my PCP for ultra for my left (unoperated) leg today. She will NOT treat my surgeon's pride and joy knee. If she says no, I'll try my rheumy. Yup, by the end of next week my EMR will probably blink WARNING! :rotfl: I read of people that take pain meds for months and know that I hoarded and didn't tale them when I should have, just to have one when it was absolutely necessary....like when I got my hair colored at the salon. That was a pill necessity. :heehee:

Today's update:
I went to see my PCP about this pesky UTI. ANOTHER round of antibiotics. Just 5 days and then I see her again next week and have another culture done. She gave me 20 days of ambien to sleep. I asked for tramdol. She said that she would consider, but not until we got the UTI under control. She doesn't want to add any new meds to my kidneys. Sounded reasonable to me since I saved 6 percoset. I took one when I got home today, and will use the other 5 judiciously until I can get her to ok the tramadol.
Since my PCP is in the same building as my office, I just stopped in. I worked a full day. I was supposed to begin on Monday, but today was the day. I iced and elevated and walked. It was great to see my old friends. I took a percocet when I got home, went to dinner with my husband, and now I am in this comfy recliner with my ice machine. Today was a good day. I drove, I feel well, but best of all I feel like I got most of me back.
The most amazing thing that happened today is I decided that I'm glad that I did this and I am definitely going to have the other knee done. Can you believe that I am saying that? Yup, and I mean it with my whole heart and soul. I have to wait 6 months, due to the new job, and I have to accumulate 2 weeks sick time....again due to the new job. I'm thinking spring so I can heal in time to enjoy the pool. I have no intention of changing jobs, so this time I will take the full 12 weeks this job's benefits allows. I know that I am lucky that I am feeling well, because 6 weeks is very early, but I didn't have a choice.
So, how's that for an update? Pretty positive, huh? :happydance:

Boy Nyland, that is one pesky UTI isn't it. Hard to believe that some docs are so stingy with the pain medicine. Mine was to a point, but all I had to do was ask for more and I got it so far. I am down to Tramadol during the day and Vicodin at night. So my 65 Vicodin should last for awhile. Glad you have your decision made for the other knee. Hope the time flies by for you.

Hi Deb,
Can you believe that I have some to the conclusion that this is a good thing and I want my other knee done? I think it took me longer than most, but I'm gong to blame it on the UTI. :heehee:

Woohoo Nyland, what a great day for you with a day's work thrown in for good measure. On top of all that you are glad you had your knee done. You cannot do better than that. You have down exceedingly well in those six weeks. Proud of you and great respect :thumb:
