Just checking on you girl! :console2:
Let us know how things are going at home.

Indeed. Hope you are busy with the bonesmart mantra.

Well spoken, articulate, encouraging, inspiring, .......so many wonderful things to be said for you! I'm proud of you of what you're doing to make your life the best you can for you!

Roy's comment 'exactamundo'. Cracked me up.....and the translation was even funnier!

Hello
I've been a busy bee. I found my dream apartment and I'm moving in mid-october! The place has stairs. It's the upper two floors of a century home but, I think I can handle them. Anyways, I'm willing to try for this stunning place. If you've ever found an apartment or house that you walked into and couldn't believe how beautiful it was and that you could actually afford it you'll know what I mean. realty-love at first sight! It has a 20 x 20' space that is perfect for a painting studio with skylights and there are no carpets. My current apartment is wall-to-wall white fluffy carpets which are not only hard to clean and maintain but also a dust mite breeding ground.... I think having gone through so much pain and drama in my current apartment I needed to start a new.
Now that the 'ooooh ah' feeling has started to wear off I'm thinking pragmatically about the washroom situation: There is a shower upstairs but only a bathtub downstairs. If for any reason I'm in too much pain to get upstairs how in the world will I get into a bathtub?

I am four weeks and three days out of my knee surgery and right now I don't feel like I will ever be able to get into a tub let alone out of one. I found a thread on here about the subject but most peoples solution was to get a walk in shower and since I don't own the unit it is not up to me. Anyone able to take a bath at some point after TKR or BTKR???

I refuse to give up another dream home because of physical barriers. Foot down.
P.S I haven't had living quarters with stairs in 20 years because of my arthritic hips and knees. Now that I have a new hip and 2 new knees I fully plan to enjoy stairs for as long as I am capable.

Jesse, Yes! You will be able to take baths again! It was probably 6 weeks out for me. You have to get a good bend in the knee and be sure and have good upper body strength. Do not give up on baths...do not accept physical barriers... you WILL get in and out of the tub I just know it:)m Joan

I'm interested in hearing about the bathtub tales too. I still have one more knee surgery to go, so it'll be a minute for me. I had given up on it pre-surgery, since anytime I took one I was sure that I'd have to have my kids pull their naked mama out of the tub. NOT COOL! The last time I took one I kept a bathing suit nearby just in case. :loll:I usually ended up doing a crawl over onto my knees deal and get up from there. Smh Looking forward to the day that I can enjoy a bath w/candles and a glass of wine without having to worry about how I'm gonna get out. lol

Glad to hear that you're looking forward to a fresh start and you found the perfect/affordable place! :egypdance:

I haven't managed a bath for years, but we made the mistake of buying a very cool looking roll top bath when we redid our bathroom. It's deep, slippy and scary even for non knee problem people.
The apartment sounds gorgeous though!
Sue.

That's a real bummer Dabber:( Be sure to get a walk in tub next reno. It must be hard to have to sit out of such a wonderful looking tub!

Ladies, I think I'm gonna schedule my bath for my birthday. :egypdance: That will be about 7 weeks out from my left knee and almost 5 months from my right one. I should be able to pull it off. I'll keep my bathing suit handy just in case I need help from my kids. :loll:

Hello, I had a left total hip replacement March 4, 2013 and I'm experiencing an aching sensation in my groin coupled with an aching sensation on my hip bone.
I'm not sure how concerned I should be about this... The implant is ceramic, cementless and looks excellent in x-rays. I had my hip replaced because of rheumatoid arthritis and five-ish months later I had a bilateral knee replacement so physio for my hip kind of took a backseat and I'm just getting to it now. I'm hoping it will correct itself with exercise. But I have concerns and was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and how it turned out for them?
Thanks

Jesse, I merged your threads as I prefer you keep all your recovery related posts in one thread. That way you don't have to keep repeating what you've had done and everyone else isn't at risk of repeating themselves either! Please read this One thread for your recovery please?

Please note that aches and pains are never improved with more exercise.

It sounds to me a bit like you have ITB (ilio-tibial band) issues perhaps with some Trochanteric bursitis and possibly even Iliopsoas syndrome. These are all over-usage issues which would be in keeping with the demand placed on your hip and upper leg by your knee replacements. Read the articles for suggestions on stretches. You might also find benefit from Acupressure massage.

Thanks Josephine.... But aargh! ITB and bursitis... that's me alright. Feeling a little discouraged and sad... so many kinks to work out... but off I go to try and stretch it out...

Hi Jesse for the Fight You are not alone with IT Band issues.Mine reared it's ugly head a few weeks into my recovery. It wasn't as bad as before my Op but it sure made me miserable. My OS gave me a cortisone injection on Wed and seems to have relived it somewhat.
I hope you are doing well and your new place sounds wonderful.
Wanda

The stretching helps... for a while... It has been aching since I had my hip done but took a back seat to the knee issues. The dull pain is mostly constant and always returns an hour-ish after stretching. Will ask OS about it on Tuesday... I think it is a hip-related question which is why I started a 'hip' recovery thread... Oh well... I've been merged. I know knee people get it too. It actually hurts to stretch it... Good hurt, but holy moly this is exhausting today. A 15 minute stationary bike ride and physio boosted my mood and got things going a bit.

Wanda, I'm glad your injection worked for you. They can certainly be very effective. I have had the upper limit of allowable injections this year for rheumatoid arthritis so I don't think I'll be going that route. Hoping the stretching and a bit of supporting muscle helps it out.

The IT band is one thing but the iliopsoas pain is so persistent .... I hear massage helps. I can't really afford to pay a professional so I usually get my friends to massage my back. I wonder how they'll react if I asked them to massage my groin? Ha ha, will see. I'll let you know how the stretching things go. And if anyone has had success with stretching these muscles out of pain please let me know. This is so hard right know - pulling hair.

Jesse Sorry to hear you are hurting... I have OA.... in most of my body including both hips. Not anything like RA, but I do understand your frustration with pain moving around in different joints different days. My finger joints in my right hand have nodules that flare up and hurt off and on as well... I wish I could rub your back for you to help you. I would if I could... sending HUGS.:friends: Joan
