TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

Hi @hopefaith coming off pain meds too soon is no joke. Trying to build them back into your body takes a good couple of days. I hope chubbster understands this. I'm concerned for him x good night. X x x I find this easier on my iPad x x x

How are you doing today? Depression and anxiety are very much a part of fibromyalgia too. Every time I visit my rheumatologist I have to complete a HAD test (Hospital Anxiety and Depression test) Half the questions are related to anxiety and the other half to depression. You rate the questions to how you feel over the last fortnight. I've been scoring high on the depression lately and moderately on the anxiety. My GP gets a report including the score, but never makes any comments when I see her.

I think being open to those you trust about the depression helps. There will always be people who don't understand. Same goes about the pain. A nurse after the original TKR when I was in severe pain just told me to toughen up. Yet another nurse said one night do you normally live with pain. When I said yes she did something about it and set up an IV line to give me extra painkillers. In the morning another nurse said she shouldn't have done that, and refused to give me any more IV pain relief. I hope the night nurse didn't get told off!

I am quite worried. My incision line is completely closed , and was looking so good. Today at PT I noticed it look s red down the sides of the center part. It is very sensitive to the touch. The actual incision looks more red too. I am very worried because I have had several MRSA outbreaks in the past 2 years. Before my surgery I was cultured in all the 3 areas and they all came back negative. I called my OS but I can't get in until later in the week. I am pretty terrified about this. My incision wasn't even sensitive until today.

@busylizzie not having a good day at all. Besides the post above, my depression is here full blown due to my relationship ending . I hesitate to put that here but......I need support. How do all these things hit at once? How are YOU today?

I remember once years ago when I was seeing my rheumy, he had an intern? with him. I was in a bad patch and was down. He said something like "you know she's *really* in pain because she almost never complains." It is nice when you get a doc or nurse who understands.

Hi @hopefaith I'm ever so sorry to read about your relationship ending that's just awful. You are having enough to cope with your knee never mind someone finishing with you. Well you're a very beautiful young woman and it's their loss. You will not be on your own long, mark my words!

How long ago did all this occur. If you don't wish to discuss this openly you can inbox me if you so wish x

Love Nana moon 27 xxx

I am so sorry hopefaith....that is a lot to process and go through all at the same time. It makes me count my blessings to have the husband I do, many times I find it easier to count his faults.

There is no quick easy way to heal a hurt and a knee at the same time. You will be in my prayers....I am sure the snowy day doesn't help! At least you know that the snow will pass quickly.

No words just support...

Tramadol has the whole serotonin norepinephrine deal. I was on cymbalta a couple years ago and it took me months to get off from, so Tramadol scares me.

@busylizzie yes, it helps a lot to have a few to trust about MDD. I don't have too many because too few under stand it is resistant MDD. Meds only help some, not a lot. I certainly hope the sun shines here tomorrow in the mile high city. Well Busy Lizzie how many days or would you prefer I not do that? Your choice. I want to be respectful. I will keep you in my thoughts no matter what! I am having a time adjusting to this iPad. I will however keep misspelling words.

@cafecortado I feel like "billy no mates" right now. The isolation is so hard. And I am so dependent now and can't even drive.

Yeah @hopefaith, I know what you mean. As I had my first knee done in January I didn't really get back driving before my second op in April so it's felt like ages since I could get around. I can't wait for the day when I can go where I want WHEN I want! X

@hopefaith
You have friends here. We'll help you to get through.

When I had my darkest time, I always found this to be helpful: "In the hour of adversity be not without hope for crystal rain falls from black clouds." It comes from Persian poem.

I took it to mean that, even when things seem to be at their worst, something good will come of it.

The good will come for you. I'm sure of it!
