TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

@JustJeff so many people make this marvellous turnaround at twelve weeks. I know of two people near where I live that are almost back to normal, the. You have someone like me who has had complications, desperate to get back to work, drive and regain my independence. I go in for day surgery soon (19th June) and I please pray it gets sorted. The surgeon is going to aspirate my knee and remove all the excess fluid and give me cortisone injections to reduce the swelling in the soft tissues.

@Nana moon 27 I can freeze up under pressure too. Actually my GP,NP if that makes sense, is wonderful, but I don't know if she will see my situation clearly. Here in the U.S. there is SUCH paranoia about pain meds. It is way over the top if you want my opinion.
(maybe I need to go amend my comment too. It was not directed at anyone.)

I have been slowly reducing my pain meds, but if after an hour I do not have adequate pain relief I take the amount I cut back. Right now I am taking 7.5 mg, but if that is not enough after an hour, I take half a pill bringing it up to 10 mg. Slow and easy when decreasing, and keep the pain under control.
:chillpill:

I've learned the hard way to allow myself to back track when needed.
I was unable to tolerate CPAP the first go around, mostly due to a Respiratory Therapist who told me I would die if I did not comply ASAP, and they would not change anything to make it easier. I took the equipment back and that was that.
Finally I bought my own machine, and gave myself permission to take it off when I could not stand it. Low and behold, I was using it 8 hours a nite in a week.
Having a non judgmental approach to myself helps me the most (we beat ourselves up more than anyone else would dare to). And no it is not easy to get there, or to even be consistently non judgmental to myself.
Guess we are all just works in progress,.

@hopefaith you are so right about pain medication after three months with most U.S. doctors. I know several people that had to go to pain management clinics. I was lucky my neurologist took over my pain medication after two months for my other neurological issues. If you need the medication use it. I agree with others your body will tell you when it doesn't need it. Feel better.

@Jozilla thank you for joining in. Yes, I am so worked up about this, and I know there are other options than just my OS. There is also a vibe that a person SHOULD be able to handle their pain after a certain time. Thank you for your kind comments. It means a lot, truly!

Good morning and Good afternoon. Quite a night I had trying to catch back up with the pain management. Learn from my mistake. I also want to be kind to myself for not realizing how much to decrease. I know there is an article about this. @Judlepip I have been wanting to respond to something you pointed out awhile back. Why DON'T Orthopods let us know how intense and looooonng this recovery will be. I have my hunches......but your question, was a very good one that I keep coming back to.

@Nana moon 27 I think about your upcoming procedure and really wish it could be sooner. ( I am sure you must be so weary of us all saying that.) x x

@zlady How ARE you? I wanted to include you in yesterday's post and the brain went into "off".
