TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

@dogwheels I found washi tape on Etsy. Do you know it? It is a fantastic craft, art site. Problem is I can't decide what colors....WAY too many choices. I will tomorrow when I am more rested. My day is ending as it is late here. I love the idea very much and can't wait to try it out. If it is magnificent, I will try to get pictures on here. If not, the arm twisting may be in order. Not knee twisting however.

Not too much new to report, other than I am so bored at times, I can hardly stand it. I want to organize and get stuff out here that has painful memories, because there is a good chance I will stay here a couple more years. But I don't know where to begin and I would run out of gas quickly. I have been through this once before in 2002 and sorting through stuff turns my stomach. this individual has promised to help. What that means, I do not know. I lived here before he moved in, I lived here with my then teen aged son, so this place has been mine for ten years. I love it, just need to change it once again into my place. Any suggestions?
@DogLoverx3 You are kind of going through this. Paint, paint gives a good quick change. (like I am going to be painting anytime soon.) oh well, will keep thinking....

Maybe there are a few things you can do to make the house feel like yours, move some lighter stuff around. A good airing out of the house can help too. Maybe some new sheets, blankets, etc.
So hard when your knee is not up to all the heavy stuff you would like to do to get your house in order.
Sending you love and caring while you go through this transition...

Good morning @hopefaith - glad you have been inspired with the washi tape. Once you have tried it I can just see you covering all sorts of things with it. Glad @Nana moon 27 is not trying it, I can see that poor cat having a stripy makeover!
Yes I do know Etsy - it is fantastic! Trouble for me though, is it is very US based, although more UK sellers are appearing on there. I did have a shop front, but that's as far as I got, I 'acquired' some dead stock brooches from the 1940's that I was going to put on there ............. but that's a story for another time. I have bought fabric on there from US, and several beautiful vintage 1940s dresses for my daughter.
I can really feel for you wanting to change things up a bit in your home and claim it back as your space again. For starters could a friend drop off a couple of large cardboard cartons for you? If you popped them somewhere out of the way, you could use them as a drop zone for all the things you want rid of, just gradually dropping bits in as you are passing? Its hard to suggest things for other people's houses, but a new bed cover? Change the pictures around (if you can reach)? Rearrange ornaments/photos etc. New sofa throw/cushions? And if all else fails, do as I do and indulge in a tiny bit of online retail therapy!

I have a busy day today, so wont be around. I'll probably check in just before I go to bed.
Take care

@hopefaith - I have a friend that recently went through a messy break up and she kept her house. She invited a bunch of her girlfriends, myself included, to a dumping party. We all brought one thing to cheer her up (had to be less than $20 - I found a really cool mirror at a garage sale last year that I had not hung that looked great at her place) If you brought something you were able to pick something out of a bin of things that she had collected that reminded her of him and you were able to break it or burn it. There were 10 of us there and it was a lot of fun. We reminisced about the better times, gave her tips on getting back in the game and helped her clear out a bunch of memories that she no longer wanted. By the end of the day, she was tired but happy, her place looked great and we were all the better for it. That was six months ago. She is doing well. Her ex is now living back with his parents after the woman he left for dumped him. Karma at its finest.

Breakups are never easy. I went through it 18 years ago when my ex walked out on me and my our two boys. Months of legal wrangling followed, plus me having to take him to court. It was hell at the time, but I came through. I got to keep the house and I have a wonderful, close relationship with my sons as a result.

@thanks for all your ideas. Truly @Pumpkln @Mai5ie @71Beetle @dogwheels and anyone I missed. It is hard. I love the dumping idea. Objects are objects, but I have a really good memory for emotional detail ( gets me In trouble at times). So to look at something that is loaded hurts!

@Nana moon 27 @chestnc @JustJeff @DogLoverx3 @cafecortado @ChubbsterPT ,@busylizzie and I know I have left a bunch out, I will return later. I wish and hope for a less pain day. Painless.....not really probable. But we are all in this together, eh? You all inspire me....truly!

Okay so I am decreasing meds a little, and now my knee is so stiff. Mornings are tougher. I don't really want to increase the pain meds. ,I am in the ODIC today, and had high hopes of decreasing meds. OUCH! It's funny. It doesn't really feel like they are doing much........................UNTIL I decrease them. Kind of discouraging. I have been decreasing, but went too fast these past 3 days. Oh well, always a learning process. Here I sit with 2 bags of ice on.....ice it is the Best!!!!

Hi @hopefaith a little word from one who knows. Don't be I too much hurry to decrease your meds. It is way to soon to be doing that really. You are not even 8weeks into your recovery. At this stage is it very early to be doing this. I made a massive mistake around your time when I tried to cut down. The pain grew so bad it took almost a day and a half to get it back under control again. Those twenty four hours were dreadful x x x I would absolutely hate for you to be in that position.

"OUCH! It's funny. It doesn't really feel like they are doing much........................UNTIL I decrease them. Kind of discouraging"
If it is hurting when you decrease it means it is much too soon yet. That is your warning x x x please take your medication the pain will drag you down and harm your recovery. It's not worth it. I'm only just now after four months able to start reducing my meds, so it is early days. Please Don't compare yourself either that was one of my HUGE mistakes.

I would suggest you read this link that was sent to you by Jamie. Is helped me immensely In the early days...

The importance of managing pain after a TKR and the pain chart

It is so right. It will make sense to you at the moment. I hope that I have helped you and not come across harsh. I only want to help you as a friend x x x x

@Nana moon 27 you are SO wise (and caring). I think I feel pressure because the P.A. who I do not like, have I mentioned that, (like 84 times. sorry) in the office with my OS said I need to be off all meds. by 3 months. This has me in a tizzy. But, I clearly am not ready to decrease much of anything at this time. I am fine with no more pain meds. at 3 mo.s if I am not in pain. If I had to get off them today, as I have realized, I would end up in an emergency situation.
I feel very cared about by you. x x I have heard on here to go to my GP. I need to make an appt. I don't have confidence they will prescribe what I need. (did I mention tizzy?)

You don't come across harsh at all. :) x x

You have every right to get in a tizzy @hopefaith. Take no notice of the alpha males it's their ego trip. We don't ow what really goes on behind the scenes. As for being off meds by twelve weeks what a load of rot. You need to take pain meds for as long as you need them. I would most certainly go and see your GP. You have to explain the sleeplessness because of the pain. They can't see into your head and understands what going on. That's why you have to make sure they know everything. Write it down if necessary that's what I always do now. I have a nasty habit of going blank under pressure! If I were you I would get Josephine's opinion if you like. I. Sure she will agree with what I'm saying to you. Xxxx don't forget to have a read of that pain chart. It's a really good one x x x

If he can guarantee that you won't have pain in 3 months then it would be appropriate. I'm currently in the process of cutting my meds because I'm not feeling pain if I'm late taking them. That should be your yardstick (meterstick?)

Fair do's, okay, if they make a fantastically quick recovery that is wonderful but there is a way of being positive about your recovery without making others feel intimidated or weak. Xxxxx

Hi @JustJeff nicely put. You are doing it exactly right. You are not suffering too much pain and know that you can cut down now. Your body has told you that it is ready. I am soooooooo pleased for you. Yes that is the right yardstick. You prove like myself, that recovery is an individual process. Lovely to hear a sensible point of view. Thank you Jeff x x @hopefaith it will be the same for you when your time is right. At twelve weeks it's like a turning point for the better usually in recovery (remember to allow for individual recovery though!)

BTW, regarding the alpha male thing, I'm just doing these things because for whatever reasons, I'm recovering faster. If I wasn't I wouldn't be pushing it. Going in, I was prepared for the long haul. I was just as surprised as everyone else. In the hospital I figured they were just trying to keep my spirits up. It wasn't until rehab, when I saw my peers and how they were doing that I started to believe what they were saying. It's when it's the long haul and you're thinking short term that you get in trouble, both physical and mental.

Oh @JustJeff I think I'll remove my comments. They are not targeted at someone like you. You have never ever rubbed anyone's nose in it or made anyone uncomfortable about their lack of recovery. If my comments are offensive please tell me and I'll remove them instantly x x x

No no Nana. I just didn't want anyone to think that I was doing anything extraordinary to recover. I do not want anyone to go beyond their own body's limits for any reason. If I had a slow recovery then I would proceed at the same speed as those with me. I just want people to listen to their body parts (and the whole) and act accordingly.
