TKR Hopefaith's Ups and Downs of Recovery

Thank you all. @Pumpkln I guess I am an athlete (under great duress) @kneeper it very much DID freak me out. I have upped the pain meds. I am taking it very easy today. @Celle I am thinking about it. I need to stay OFF the stairs at night.@Ellejay after effects- a lot of aching all over and I can't believe how much worse it could have been! Sometimes this iPad works to tag and other times no. Annoying.

My appt. went fine. He is not at all concerned about my scar. I was very specific with him. He aspirated my knee from the swelling from my "almost fall". He then tells me I need to be off all pain meds by 3 months post op. (No infection type stuff from knee....sorry don't mean to be too descript)

So @Nana moon 27 I am shocked to hear of your gardening. Impressive yet maybe not the very BEST idea for those poor knees. But you know what? I get it. I SO want to be doing the things that make me feel like ME again. So no virtual finger wagging. Especially since why did I think it was a good or needed idea to make toast and jam at midnight with stairs to traverse? <3

@dogwheels I am going to go read about your story. The stories on here are amazing what people, you and others have gone through....not boring.

Great news today! That run/fall on the stairs sounds pretty scary. Your ROM must be pretty good though! Yes you need a night time stash upstairs! Much safer that way. Rest up!

Good job on the stairs! Maybe you can pack snacks when you go up. I am now experiencing the worst case scenario. I was doing GREAT after surgery--there were just a couple of places along the wound line that wouldn't close. Went to wound care, returned to work, etc. I now have an infection--not MRSA--but my new parts have to come out while I do antibiotics for 6 weeks. So, don't play with this. I have had two surgeries to wash the infection out, but it is still growing. Redness, a little swelling, get that stuff taken care of! Hope your OS visit goes well

Most are off of meds in that time period, if you are one who needs them longer see your GP, or fibromyalgia MD, for pain meds.
Relieved to hear you are OK after your little stair run, and your incision is normal. I agree midnight runs down the stairs are not a good idea right now.

I certainly hope to be off pain meds by 3 months. It was just weird timing after my event and all I was feeling was OUCH!

@busylizzie I sure get what you said over on Nana moon's thread about when they tears come, you need your husband the most. And they can't be there for you. I have just gone through that. ( different situation, but the similarities are striking.)
@chestnc how are you? Have missed you lately....busy, or are you in a lot of pain as you were saying? I certainly hope it is resolving and that you are feeling much better. I hope you are out dancing the night away. (:

Hi @hopefaith, thanks for looking out for me. I have been out late every evening this week. I wish dancing the night away, but only last night for my line dancing class. Monday church meeting and just got in tonight as I went to see my friend who had her RTKR done on Monday. She is doing great. I haven't seen her that happy in a long time. She's going home tomorrow. So glad for her. I am still exhausted, not having much pain and was able to walk a good but as we were in the city and took public trans to get to the hospital she is in. Going to make a sooner appt. with my primary as this tiredness is not usually me for this length of time. Hope you are feeling well and all is going good with you.

I hurt. I think coming up on the second day is harder . I feel stupid. Have stash upstairs tonight. Yes I am whining.:elevate:

Am still exhausted but was able to walk in the city today and was so happy to see my friend feeling so much better after her RTKR. Her demeanor from what she was like to now was like night and day.

Hopefaith,
No worries, it is hard to try and figure out something you have never done before, and be on all these pain medications that muddle our brains, you are doing just fine.

@hopefaith, thanks for dropping by on my thread. I've just got up again after having a snooze, I was so tired  . i'm feeling a little better now.

Sorry you are still having a rough time and missing the support at home that you need right now to get through this. I understand the hurt. It is a hard recovery without the extras that you are suffering. My hubby copes with it all fairly well except the crying. I try not to, but this is bottling it up, and that isn't good either. This site really helps in expressing your emotions, whatever they are. No one criticises you, they understand. We are all going through or about to go through this journey to hopefully a better life, free from pain.

We are all here for each other.
