@dede62 I know what your saying especially with insurance companies. Been there, and currently going through an issue where I have to produce document after document to prove my case.

When does the swelling ever goes away?
Wow! My surgery just started this time last Friday. One week already.
Just took my first shower this morning.
Visiting nurse is coming at noon. My first visit was yesterday but she was more clerical than anything else. She asked a lot of questions and did paper work. Today I guess the nurse will check my vitals and look at stitches. (Well I'm all glued together)
Probably gona be a quick vist.
Still waiting for PT to call and make arrangements to come over, however Chloe is filling in as my personal physical trainer for now.

It can take some time! Are you icing and elevating regularly? Just post op I was even taking an ice pack to bed at night. Ice is your friend! :ice:

@Jaycey Hi Jaycey,
Yes I'm icing regularly, but I am keeping busy with walking. I do a nice routine of exercise that takes about 30 minutes every day. I feel great when I'm doing it.
Here is a question about the ice. Where do I put the ice? There's not much pain at all just swelling by my ankles and thigh.
The visiting nurse told me just because your on blood pressure medicine that doesn't mean you can eat as much salt as you want. She told me to watch my sodium intake, which I've never done.
Anyway, where should I ice down? By my incision? Ankle? Thigh?
There is only tightness of muscles not much pain.
Can you believe its 1 week today that I came over to this side ?
My first visit by in home PT will be today

Ice where you feel swollen. I iced my incision site most of the time. Be sure and put something between your ice pack and your skin like a thin towel. Ice your thigh or ankles if there is swelling there. It all aides pain relief!

Hi jeff nice to hear you are doing well and your recovery is going well, I had some not so good days but mostly good ones as I listened to the advice that was given on this site, do everything in small stages and build it up gradually. Remember It isn't a race.

Billy

@forbesy Thanks Billy, I will pace myself, I'm in no hurry but it feels good when you feel good :catdance:
My wife and I walked a little bit today in the front of the house and we are both so amazed at my gate. The fact that both knees and feet are all pointing forwards is amazing.
As I look at the 2 little dancing icons in your signature I bet having both of your hips replaced was the best decision you've ever made.
Talk to you later Billy, and thanks.

@2 for Jeff !!! Just catching up here! So glad you made it home--but so sorry you had so many issues with your meds on that day :( that is just unbelieveable how many pharmacies were out of stock! CRAZY!!!!! :flabber: I have been thinking about you and praying all went well! Keep us posted on your recovery--I will be having mine on Dec. 8th--went to grocery store the other day and stocked up on prunes and apricots! LOL so good to know they do what they are supposed to!!!:heehee:[/QUOT

hey the weezyone you are having your surgery on dec 8th?? so am I . I am very nervous!!!!!!!!!

@teejay1 What ever you do, don't run out of those prunes :snork:
You will do just fine on the 8th. Nothing will come close to the pain you have now.
Just a few more hurdles to get over for you. I want you to let us know how easy your pre op day goes tomorrow.
If you could just remember when I tell you , ever since my operation last week I haven't experienced any pain that was even close to my bone on bone pain I use to have. Only soreness from incision area, and soreness from doing my exercise. Two different types of pain, it just doesn't compaire.
Let's just get through tomorrow's pre op and try not to over think anything.
You got this...Talk to us tomorrow.

@2 for Jeff ,

How is your non operated side holding up? Are you feeling more pain on that side now since you other side has been done?

hey @teejay1 ! wow we are hippie buddies!:friends: I am also nervous! LOL had my right one done in 2010--did very well--praying this goes as well! I see you are a Georgia guy! woohoo! I am in Leesburg GA but lived in the Atlanta area for quite some time! wishing you well--hope to hear from you more!

@bsilvers Hi Brian, My non operated leg has been behaving very well, as a matter of fact it's getting stronger.
Ever since my discharge from the hospital on the 23rd, when I would do my exercises for my operated leg, I would also do the non operated leg. So my wife was angry because now I had muscle aches in both legs.
The soreness in non operated leg only lasted 2 days as I awoke those muscles up from their long sleep.
I continue to work both legs and started to add some upper body workouts, like dips and curls. No problem with soreness there because I've always worked the upper body.
Today my wife went back to work and it's my first dAy all alone. She keeps calling making sure I'm taking meds and using ice and elevating leg..
It's about 60 degrees today in New Jersey so I'm sure wifey and Chloe will take me out for a nice walk later.

But all in all Brian things are coming along well. I wish swelling wasn't an issue but ice and elevate right?
Last night instead of percoset before bed I had 2 Tylonol.
Im getting there. Oh ! I forgot to mention, remember I asked you a while back about which leg do you lead off with going up and down stairs? The old cliche' is up with the good leg and down with the bad leg. Well I asked my PT and she said in my case, for now I will go up with my non operated leg first (my left) but after Fenruary I
Will go up with the first hip that was operated on ( my right)
It's a little hard to mumble that in my head but I'll figure it out.

Jeff,

As you see, it gets better and better. You are doing so well, it is great. I am 5 months out from my second hip, I now no longer notice any hip or leg issues at all. You'll see, once the Feb hip is done, you will be over the 'great hip nightmare'.

@MarkK Congratulations on reaching the 5 month mark on hip #2 :yay: I do thank you for all of the information that you and the others shared with me. You all were spot on so far :ok:
I'm sure you remember what a mess I was, leading up to my operation :yikes::sos:

Ok Mark, you wouldn't guess in a million years what I did today....
You guessed it!! I watched my first episode of your favorite ....Love it or List it :snork:
That will give me something to past the time with. Good show, Wifey even likes it :snork:
Thank the Heavens for Netflix

I got hooked with Hip #2 on 'Two and a half men' -- it is so funny. I watched reruns, I never saw it live. Charlie Sheen might have issues in his real life, but he is hysterical as a low life on that show. And the juxtaposition with his insecure brother is really good. In fact, I should have suggested that for you, but not with kids. And my wife thinks I am a moron for liking it. Hard to account for taste. But you will laugh, and that's what hip recovery needs, a good laugh. About kids, here is a funny one: I was watching some show with my 8 yr old grandson over this holiday weekend. It was an ok show for an 8 yr old. But one of the ads was for 'Naked and Afraid', which is not ok for an 8 yr old. He said, with a twinkle in his eye: "I saw that show grandpa." I thought I would fall off the couch. His mother knows now.

@MarkK

Hey I watch Naked and Afraid....but not my 12 year old. The show makes me laugh and I love to see the dynamics between the struggle for leadership when they have nothing but burlap sacks on!

I'm stii continuing to stay the course. Doing my exercises at home. I think I only have 1 more visit by the visiting nurse and 2 more sessions with physical therapist at home. Now I will need a prescription for out patient PT.
I'm realy trying to cut back on the percoset because I don't realy have much pain. I have been just taking extra strength Tylonol .
It does get a little boring here at home. I think I will just walk a little on the treadmill and watch some news for a while. Progress is slow and steady and I still can't believe all of that pain that I've lived with is all gone. Why did I wait so long to have it done.
My left hip is not even an issue anymore. But if I feel good now, I can't imagine what I'm gona feel like in February after hip # 2.
Anyway I just wanted to keep everyone up to speed with my recovery.
All is going well
