THR Hawai'i Healing Hipster

I arrived in my room about 5:30 PM yesterday. Today, I.have been to the restroom. Nice lady just entered my room and took my breakfast order. So far everyone has been above and beyond with kindness and care. DH left to find more coffee. I took a sip of his coffee and realized that the water doesn't taste funny, it is my tastebuds. DH brought a toothbrush with toothpaste to me in bed, prior to coffee. I still have OT and PT.

Thank you everyone. This was so much easier due to all of your kind suggestions and prayers.

Breakfast has arrived! (Yes it is taking me that long to text simple paragraph) 8:59AM

Hi @AgilityDog
Hope your pain is well controlled and they're providing you with ice.
Sounds like your surgery was delayed by a few hours. That would have ramped up
the anxiety for me. Thankfully it's behind now and you can concentrate on healing.
Wishing you a comfortable night!

Hi @AgilityDog-looking forward to getting home Wednesday. Be nice to have my own stuff. Also believe I will sleep better.

:hi: @AgilityDog
first days can be a little jarring! It was for me...I was afraid to post lest I say something to frighten someone...because I was frightened!
All temporary and body has to adjust to all that trauma and anaesthesia stuff.
Hope your pain is managed.
We are here:loveshwr:

@Mojo333- first days are jarring our poor bodies. I am at week 3 and my body is better, but mind is still adjusting. Tough situation. :) I watched s hip replacement on YouTube and WOW WE ARE WARRIORS.

Yes we are, with great new hips!

Hey @AgilityDog .
How in the world are you doing ?
Tell us all. Are they being kind to you? Is your pain managed?
I want so badly for all to be going well for you.
Got any clue when they will send you home?
Got your speed walker ready to go?
Hope you know that all these first days are Temporary, and we are rooting for you:roseshwr:

Hi @AgilityDog
Hope your pain is well managed and that today is good.
Are you ready for a hula?
I'll bet @Bevlah is, she needs to flaunt that KK she is sportin' before it deflates :loll:
I'll bring the lay's and watch
Hope your day is sunny!

1:41 AM on Wednesday. we had tried 1/2 the pain meds. Did not work. So I waited long enough to have a full dose.

I started chasing the pain Tuesday afternoon. The therapist showed me a new and significantly more painful way to leave the bed. Also did crazy painful ROM. Took pain meds on empty stomach and went for an energy depleting walk. Had to get back to my bed via wheelchair. Pain went up to 8 in a nano second. I have been up to the rest room. Pain is a steady 8.

The lesson I learned is: do not get behind the pain. Also do not get pushed into the therapy when you are starting behind pain. DH went to get coffee. I am pretty sure that he will be here to ''protect" me. I didn't hurt this much when I left recovery on Monday.

Mahalo, my hippie friends

Please be careful @AgilityDog. Not all pts get what this recovery is like. Chasing pain for as long as you have IS NOT good! The only rom you need is to walk and sit. How are they having you get out of bed? While it is not comfortable it should not have significant pain. I have only had brief moments of pain level 8.

Please get pain managed before going back to pt

I already made my feelings clear about yesterday. I hope I see the OS before the therapist shows up. I know/ knew it is an up & down path. I should have DH here to back me up. I could be wrong, but it seems that my pain rose and stayed after that therapy. That's not what I was expecting.

Sorry you are having such a rough start @AgilityDog
Consider telling them you don't want any more therapy while there.
Hopefully you're discharged soon and can rest peacefully in your own space.
Safe travels as you head home :yes!:
