PKR Having LTKR and praying for a successful outcome…”

Yes I’m still icing and elevating as well. @Josephine hit my problem right on the head, pes-anserine and mpfl pain. That woman is a genius! I started taping that area and it has helped me tremendously....:yes!:
I miss long hikes and walks with the husband and our dog, but I can ride my bike, so patience is very much required with this knee and the healing process.

@Doupie, finally we hear from you again! Glad you are doing well. Josephine is good at what she does, helped me figure out a minor pain issue also. Those long walks will be there, you’ll see. Start off with some shorter walks on fairly level ground and go from there. You will most likely still have bouta of stiffness, maybe some minor swelling, but in time that will get better. I still have those issues at 5 months.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted on your progress. Love success stories!

Aw shucks, Doupie!

Ok guys, yesterday was a horrible day and I didn’t do anything, mainly iced and elevated.

My husband took me to the movies and literally when I went to get up it was the worse pain and stiffness. We had to wait until the theater cleared so I could hobble down the steps....:bawl:

My knee was elevated the entire 2 hours and I stretched, massaged and did heel pumps while watching the movie. We immediately came home and i took meds, iced and elevated.

Am I ever going to get past this 1 step forward, 10 steps back....:boohoo:

I’ve been reading up on the pes anserine and MPFL treatment. I had already purchased the small massage ball and I use a roller to stretch thigh muscles.

Can anyone recommend anything else? Do I need an injection of cortisone? I’m feeling sooo handicapped, the swelling/stiffness is no joke and I hate limping all the time, please help me....:beg:

Maybe you are trying too hard and doing too much for/to your leg. Next time just let your elevated leg relax for a while.

There is a condition that exactly suits this - it's called the Movie sign. Yeah, ironic, isn't it? But you're only a little over 16 weeks post-op and just the prime time for this kind of phenomenon. Moral of the story is - don't go to the theatre!

@Josephine thank you, I laughed when I read about the Movie sign....:heehee:
I thought that is was ok because I was elevated and sitting not doing anything, similar to being at home. Would it have made a difference if I had used an ice pack, additionally when will I be able to go to a movie again? This recovery is killing me....:dead:

Did you have one of those recliners where you can relax with elevated legs? I found those great for movie-going at around four months. That said... sometimes it’s not the bending, it’s the immobility. You say you did heel pumps and bending and that wasn’t enough. Maybe your knee is still just temperamental enough to need walking every hour. :sigh: Knees can be that way. Mine didn’t like immobility for months.

Alas, no one can say exactly WHEN you will be able to sit comfortably through a movie again. That day will come! You might encounter another false start or two along the way, though.

Did you elevate with something under your knee so you'd have a slight bend in it? Maybe you kept it too straight for too long. I found I had to get up and walk and go stand at the back to the theater my first few times.

@sistersinhim I did not put anything under my knee and I thought about getting up but my knee felt fine. I’m going on my honeymoon next week and we are driving to Hilton head island which is about 4 hours from our home in SC. I’m planning on taking my ice machine and sitting in the back with my leg elevated and stopping every hour to stretch and walk. Prayerfully I will be ok...:prayer:

I bet that is why your knee raised cane. They like to be supported when they are early in their recovery.

I am thrilled to report that my knee is doing sooo much better....:yay:
My short honeymoon was wonderful and I’m not limping but walking almost normal. I have a new PT and he is awesome. My problem is tight ligaments/muscles and back/hip issues. He has worked on me twice and it’s painful stretching everything out, but after its wonderful. I now feel like I can return to Bikram Yoga and start working out again. I know I need to start out slowly and I will. I’ve been here before and I don’t want any major set backs.

I still ice and elevate because the swelling internally has not stopped completely, but it is a lot less. I have a series of stretches that I do everyday and a tennis ball that I use on my back for pressure massage. It’s wonderful to get out of the bed and go to the bathroom like a normal person and I know you guys can relate...
Thanks again guys for all your support and kind words, I love my Bonesmart family...:loveshwr:

Yay for wonderful honeymoons! And double cheers for your knee feeling better. Just take it slow now. The path to the ODIC is paved with enthusiasm because a knee is feeling good. :friends:

@Doupie, welcome back stranger! So good to hear your honeymoon went well and even better that your knee is doing well! As @SusieShoes said, just watch out for getting too enthusiastic! I’ve been there, done that a few times. Good thing is, the knee bounces back faster at this point!

Hey guys just wanted to stop by and give everyone a quick update. I’m almost eight months and getting better but not quite a 100%. I no longer limp but my knee is still stiff, so I guess I’m still swelling internally and occasionally when I visit the ODIC I swell externally as well....:bored: Really tired of this!!!

My physical therapy ended last month right before the holiday and I miss it. He would massage my knee and then do a laser treatment. I always felt better when I left PT. I was in a pro bono program at High Point University for people who had maxed out on their insurance PT visits and these guys are good. Now my insurance has kicked back in and I will have to visit my doctor to get more visits scheduled, but I can’t go back to HPU....:bawl:

I have had PT at 3 different locations and this by far was the best! He never pushed me to do anything that hurt and I always felt better when I left. I was using KT tape but stopped thinking that it wasn’t helping but may try some today just to see if will help. My girlfriend swears by it.

I was a little depressed over this stupid knee last week and the lack of finally being able to do everything I want to do, plus I was battling a cold. I had a pity party for one. My husband told me I was due, He said I never slowed down with this surgery and now my body and mind needed a break....so I took a few days and vegged in front of the television and turned off my phone for a while. The break did me good, but I’m still tired of this darn knee. My dream is to wake up and my knee move freely without the stiffness. I feel like the tin man and if I only had an oil can I could loosen this knee up......:loll:

@Doupie, great to hear from you! I also have bouts of stiffness, especially in the morning, but nothing I find intolerable. Main thing for me is no pain. If you have concerns, I definitely recommend you see your OS. My next visit isn’t until April but I have no reason to see him earlier. You might. Give it some thought. But also keep in mind this is a year plus process. Some other members who are 18 months out also indicate stiffness at times.

@NavyGunns how do you know if the stiffness is normal or something you need to see the OS about? My knee is stiff but it doesn’t hurt I just push through the discomfort. I do not like my OS and I hate going to see them. They always treat me like my symptoms are in my head...:what:
Can anyone else chime in please?

At first my OS said give it 6 months, then a year, now 18 month...
