PKR Having LTKR and praying for a successful outcome…”

@NavyGunns,you were so right about the improvements after 8 weeks, I’m 9 weeks and today is sooo much better. The orthotics have really helped and I’m getting a custom pair at the end of the month. My knee doesn’t hurt when I’m sitting or in bed, it really hurts first thing in the morning when I wake up, it’s really stiff. I ride my bike for 15-20 minutes to loosen it up, then I shower and go to work. Somewhat painful when I stand but I try to pretend I don’t feel the pain, but I do.

Trying to get organized for next weekend and then the big reception on the 25th. I love to dance and I’m so afraid my knee won’t hold up.... I need good thoughts and prayers from everyone please!!
My fiancé says he will carry me if he needs to, I really love that man...:loveshwr:
Thanks again to everybody for your likes and fabulous advice, especially @Josephine , you guys are the bomb!!!

@Doupie,
Glad things are getting better. It will just continue to do so from here. I’m almost 4 months and still have the occasional stiffness and aches. In fact, we just had a large storm system move through here and my knee is quite achy, reason I’m up at this time responding. 4:30 am will be coming way too soon:bawl:

Lots of prayer and support heading your way.

FYI... a good thing about letting your man carry you on the dance floor.....you don’t have to worry about him stepping on your toes!:rotfl:

especially @Josephine , you guys are the bomb!!!
My thanks, lady Doupie!

@Doupie thank you very much for that! If I remember correctly, you’ve got to be about a week or so away from your big day! I suspect that may be why you haven’t been on much, but I’m also hoping it’s because you are doing well. Just remember, we like to hear when folks are doing great just as much (actually more in my case) as when they are having issues, have questions, or just need to vent.

Good luck this week and take care.

My doctor says that the first 4 days are really the worst, after that it’s a piece if cake.....LoL
Um.....no!! Let's see him/her walk a mile in our shoes, or in our cases, on our new knees!! I guess this is just a pet peeve of mine, people (yes, even surgeons), who have never experienced TKR, yet give out that kind of advice!! Grrr!!

Before I found Bonesmart I didn’t know I could do that, or how it should go. I was shocked the first time my PT force bent my knee.
Oh, I so agree Jockette!!! Especially after the bad experience I had with p/t with the RTKR!! I think more OS's and p/t people need to join BoneSmart, it could benefit both them and the patients!!

The hospital didn’t give us any information on the iceman machine
I never knew such a thing existed until I found Bonesmart!! Never heard a single word about it prior to both my TKRs!! Or, about the Lounge Doctor either!! Maybe hospitals should get on board with Bonesmart too, lol!!

It still angers me how they kicked me out of the hospital sick and in excruciating pain.
Wow, I can't believe they did that to you!! Grrr!!! I wonder if it has something to do with insurance and all that (oh, don't get me going on insurance companies, lol)!! On my second day in hospital after my LTKR, they were considering sending me home, as my pain didn't seem that bad (it was probably from the good meds, lol). I put my foot down and said no, as my balance was still somewhat off. I live alone and have stairs in my house, so that was a big concern. They accepted my decision, and I went home the next day.

@NavyGunns,you were so right about the improvements after 8 weeks, I’m 9 weeks and today is sooo much better. The orthotics have really helped and I’m getting a custom pair at the end of the month. My knee does feel better but I still have bouts of pain, complicated by stiffness and swelling...yikes

Yes without Bonesmart I would not have known half of what I know now. The hospital staff and OS are clueless and my treatment was horrific! Thank God for Josephine, BoneSmart and all the wonderful people on this site....:ok:

Okay guys, I'm a married lady now.....:cheers2:
I made it through the wedding last weekend and I'm getting ready for the big celebration tomorrow with 225 of my closest friends and family. I'm still experiencing stiffness and swelling, not a lot but just enough to make me uncomfortable. My PT says my walk is so much better and with time I'll be 100%. But I have pain in the medial area of my knee were the new joint was installed. PT says scar tissue and is working to break it up, that hurts really bad, OS agrees and says it just going to take time, but I'm at 13 weeks, isn't this unusual? I have several tender spots on the inside of my knee. I just ignore them, walk normally and pretend that I have a healthy knee.......:heehee:

What a lovely picture, Best Wishes!!

What an inspirational recovery thread. Many congratulations on your wonderful day. :loveshwr:

@Doupie, first off - :wowspring:Finally! Beautiful bride! Congratulations!

Second - everything you just described IS normal. I’m at more than 4 months (almost 19 weeks) and I still experience what you describe at times. Last night I helped Beautiful juice tomatoes with her Kitchenaide while she cooked sauce. Was on my feet for more than 3 hours. Definitely felt it afterwards and was quite stiff this morning. But all good once up and moving. It’s all the soft tissues still healing. Takes so much longer than we want or think, but is what it is! No need to even pretend you have a healthy knee, cause YOU DO!

Congrats again! Please keep in touch a bit more often now that your big day is past!

Congratulations, @Doupie! You're such a beautiful bride! And you look so very happy, too. :roseshwr:

What you're experiencing is normal. I'm not convinced it's scar tissue, as many of these kinds of pains stem from inflamed tendons or bursae and not from scar tissue at all. You could try taking a week or two off from PT and all that manipulation (honeymoon!) and just see what happens. If your sore/painful spots calm down, that would indicate you should rest more and not aggravate those areas.

I just had my annoying painful spot on my left knee finally, at long last, go away. Fourteen months to total vanquishment! But it's gone! Just goes to show sometimes it takes a while to get to completely pain-free. :bored:

Have a wonderful time, you two!

Congratulations! You make a beautiful bride! I agree with the others. Your knee is 1/4 of the way of being healed. I was still icing and elevating at your stage. Try doing more of that and cutting back on your PT and exercises. Your tendons and muscles need rest, not exercise. It is very, very rare to have adhesions. You have to have scar tissue or your knee would never stay knitted together! I doubt you have adhesions, just some overworked soreness.

Congratulations on the wedding!

I was back at work at 12 weeks but far from over the stiffness, achyness etc. I still took tylenol. You're getting there--you will just still need to pace yourself for a while yet. I found my knee(s) easily "tweaked" with certain movements but gradually they will get more hardy.

@NavyGunns you were so right about the improvements after 8 weeks, I’m 15 weeks and today is sooo much better. The orthotics have really helped and I’m getting a custom pair at the end of the month. My knee doesn’t swell as much but it still gets really stiff...ugh
I’m not limping as bad, working to get to 130/0, currently at 124/3....:)

@Doupie, GREAT to hear from you! Also great to see you are doing so well! I’m at 21 weeks and stiffness is still normal, I still have it, especially when I first get up in the morning or after sitting too long. Only pain is on the outside of my knee where ligaments and tendons are still tender. My chiropractor feels he can help with that over time (massage and adjustments to the fibula?). Main thing is no bone on bone joint pain!

Keep up the good work!

@Doupie, congratulations!! I am at 21 weeks also, and still get the stiffness and achiness. It's mostly at the end of my work day. I am on my feet a lot at work, so when I get home from work I ice and elevate, and that really helps.

@KitKat64, we are only a few days apart from our “knee days”. While I haven’t been icing or elevating my knee as you have been, I might have to go back for a while. Either that or try some warm compresses to help relax and loosen the tightness associated with the ligaments and then ice afterwards. It’s at this point I really find myself impatient and easily frustrated as I feel like I should be able to do everything with no effect, but my knee tells me otherwise. I keep reminding myself we aren’t even half way through the first year!

I get impatient too. I want to start walking on a regular basis again, but I just keep reminding myself I'm only 5 months out from the TKR!! I'm glad summer is over, as I love the fall, the cooler Temps are great for walking!! So, I'm just going to continue to be patient!!
