Yay mamazipp!!!!

:happydance:

What an awesome thing to wake up *not* thinking about your knee! I'm happy for you to have a good day. That's wonderful!!!!

Yippee! Your knee is going into the background! I can't wait!

Excellent news! [emoji4]

Thanks for all of the lovely cheers from you all.

So nice to have the bone smart cheering squad right here. Makes me feel happy.

I went to the first of our 3 rehearsals with orchestra at the site where we will be performing next Wed. For the first time ever in my singing life, the conductor said that people who cannot stand for the performance should take positions in the front row, where you can sit if you need to. So all my worries about whether I could tolerate standing throughout were over. Yippee. And quite a few of the singers chose the front row.
Turned out that since it's actually hard to sing sitting down....the lungs like standing to get lots of air...... It felt better to stand, anyway. But it's nice to have the option to sit. I am still VERY awkward in getting up to a standing position. I look idiotic grasping the back of the chair while pulling myself up.... so that will take some coordination. Perhaps I will be able to stand throughout.
Just in case, though, I did take a Percocet before rehearsal.
My knee was fine. Yay.:yahoo:

I'm so glad you feel more confident about how you'll cope with the performance. I know the requiem is a long piece and requires lots of stamina, but the music will lift you up. I wish I could be there.

I wish I could be singing with you! Singing can be such a wonderful release! People who don't sing much, don't realize how much energy it takes to sing!

I think I caught the last male in Florida that matches your description. :) However, I know nothing about his pension. He is a architect and was a building developer so I don't think he is strapped cash wise. We share everything 50/50 since I am a independent woman.

@Floridagal, that's the only way to do it. I found out years ago between marriages that if it's 50/50 he can't control you. Even though he'll try, we have just as much clout in the relationship as he does and his bossiness will have to stop! But even more important, I feel good taking care of myself!

Last date I went on, a long time ago (met him singing) he told me about all the debt he was in, and brought snacks in a Baggie. There was no second date.

On a happier note, the singing is uplifting and yes, @sistersinhim and @Tabbycat you can be there in spirit. Tabby, you are right, this requiem requires the chorus to sing in every number, so there is no break for sitting and recouping.. But the beauty is amazing. There is a short video someone took which shows orchestra but chorus not visible. But you can get a sense. If it loads. Click on Trevor. At 2:30 the big choral fugue starts.

@Floridagal you are very fortunate to have found that last man. Control is definitely NOT what relationships are about.

Your chorus sounded wonderful! How many are you? Ours starts up on Sunday. We have about 90 singers but not enough basses. I am so grateful that there is a group that will take a singer like me. I am a weak alto but can read music. Our conductor puts our parts on the internet for us to practice and I work hard at learning my part. It is such a privilege to sing with a large group of dedicated singers. We accept kids starting at nine years old. It is truly a diverse group.

Mamazipp, didn't you say you're an alto, too? You, Amy Jo and me would be right together singing for the joy or singing! That baritone was wonderful! Do you have to try out for your chorus? I know some groups you do, or they want music majors. I'm not a music major, but I do love to sing and I read music also. I've just got to get in a group like you two are in!

It loads! Really enjoyed that, great sound, very powerful. When I first bought the CD I listened to it every day for about six weeks, I'll get the disc out and listen again, and think of you!

So fantastic on all fronts. You starting to feel better and able to enjoy making beautiful music. So happy for you. I love to sing too, but its not classical stuff, its more like classic rock ;). Its amazing that I cant remember what I had for breakfast, but know every lyric, and every beat to every riff of thousand and thousands of songs from the mid 60's to about the early 80's. I guess its sorta classical in a sense, its from the last century ;)

But your chorus sounded wonderful. I have never been to a live concert that was orchestra and vocals. I love symphony, but have never heard orchestral with vocals. I also love Opera, as my dad was a huge opera lover and it played constantly in my house growing up. I didnt really appreciate it until I was older , now I love it.

@Tabbycat I don't even have the CD! I've been listening to alto parts only. Now I need to get it so I can hear what it sounds like from outside the singing..it is sooo beautiful, isn't it!

@dianehelen I love opera too. I got into it in my 40s and became an opera fanatic.....along with all the "opera queens" in New York. The rock music from the 60's to the 80s was the BEST. It is amazing how the lyrics become part of your memory.....and yes, it is classic. Classic rock. they are starting to give IPODS to people with dementia...it unlocks a part of their memory. Check out "Alive Inside".
I have to say that singing with a chorus, soloists and orchestra is the biggest thrill there is. Every time I've done it I take a moment to realize how fortunate I am to be a part of something so incredibly beautiful. And I'm not a professional singer by any means.

@Floridagal I'm not the greatest singer, my voice has gone from soprano to alto and getting weaker, but I can sight read, and many choruses don't require great skill. They want the ability to blend. This group is just a one time group organized by a local musician who wanted to conduct the piece for her 70th birthday, and sent out the word through the music community. She has played in the symphony, taught music in schools, and been a presence here so knows lots of people. Something like 150+ singers showed up, and I don't know how many musicians. She is well loved, and the piece is so beautiful. With very few rehearsals it sounds pretty good. I think the soloist is a former student of hers!
I will be singing in two smaller groups in the fall. One has no auditions and the other had a very simple one. Those heavy duty auditions are terrifying and I won't do them any more. We never have enough tenors. Usually a few bases. I also learn my parts on the Internet and study hard. Doing it now, too, for this work. Nice that your group has youngsters, too.

@sistersinhim I hope you can find a chorus to sing in. Even a church choir is great. I've sometimes wanted to sing in Anglican church choirs, but early Sunday morning isn't my thing, haha. Some church music is great....actually it all came from the church, didn't it? Yes, you, Amy Jo and I will be the bone smart altos...ready to sing at the bedsides of recovering knee patients.

It's nice to be back in the world again.

I am in my church choir and am the backup choir director. I choose all the music for Sunday mornings. We are a small church and have only 10 in our choir. My roommate and I are a singing ministry called Sistersinhim. We've been singing together since '97. We used to be extremely busy singing revivals and all kinds of parties. But, since we've gotten older things have slowed way down for up. I'm glad, really. It is a huge job hauling our singing equipment and setting it up and then breaking it back down and hauling it back home and into the house. If we didn't have to handle the equipment it would be so much easier. So, I'll continue singing in church and doing a couple of solos a year. I would love to be of a bigger chorus!

How are you feeling today, Mamazipp?

@mamazipp whats your favorite opera. I love the Italian operas Mine is one of the lesser known, Turandot. I love the wierd story, and the signature piece from it, Nessun Dorma. When I hear Andrea Bocelli sing it, I just melt. Also love La Boheme. , and of course its broadway pop revival in RENT.

@sistersinhim sounds like it was fun to do the singing revival but not lugging stuff. Maybe there is a community chorus in your area. Go online and see. But you have the church choir at least.

@Tabbycat I like your idea. The Nessun dorma group.

@dianehelen I'm a big Wagner Ring fan, but for Italian opera, gosh, hard to pick. Maybe Tosca. There are so many. Turnadot is fabulous, too. Rigoletto makes me cry. I've seen a few modern operas and hated them all!

a few modern operas
Ya well other than Tommy :-)

Not a big fan of Wagner, or German operas in general. The language is too hard sounding for me to connect music to. Give me italian, Verdi, Puccini, Rossini or French debussy, berlioz or bizet.
