THR Groin pain turned the corner at 9 months

I feel your pain! It's so difficult to lie still for MRIs. The last time I had one, I tried my best to be completely still and thought I was doing a good job -- until the tech told me he needed to redo some of the imaging because I was moving. :oyvey:

My MRI report was ready today, showed hamstring tendopathy, and edema deep to the iliacus muscle. Suspect the edema is part of my groin pain. Otherwise everything looks good to the radiologist.
My surgeons office will look at the images when they receive all the information. I have a followup appointment on December 4th.

It sounds like the MRI “took” and now at least you have something to work on. I hope your surgeon has good suggestions for you.

Saw the physicians assistant yesterday about my MRI, she said the mild inflammation was not enough to take the risk of an infection from an injection. She said we should think about pain specialist.
She is also prescribing Celebrex for the inflammation, I can pick it up tomorrow.

Well, since I had already made and appointment with my former Physiatrist for my SI joint pain exacerbation, I was one step ahead, he is also a pain med specialist. I have an appointment with him on Tuesday. Hoping to get some injections, that have worked for me in the past when my SI joint pain was chronic. My SI joint was fine until my THR and all these challenges.

The Celebrex is helping with my hip pain, but it is raising my blood pressure (PB) a bit. I see my cardiologist on Thursday and I will ask about the BP.
I saw my Physiatrist and received SI joint injections, it does feel better, hoping it lasts. They take walk-ins, I can go in without an appointment when I need injections. In the past they lasted several months, :fingersx: they last that long.

Slowly but surely I am getting better, in a zigzag way.

What a journey this is for you, Chris. I'm so sorry you're having to go through all this, but so glad to hear you feel things are improving somewhat. You have been so diligent and patient with it all as you worked through each challenge. Hang in there......((((HUGS)))))

The cortisone shots into my SI joint are still working. I have been much more comfortable the last week, finally it looks like I may have turned a corner with the groin pain.
Last week was a marathon of 6 Dr appointments in 4 days, accomplished a lot with all the appointments. It is not often you can say that about routine MD appointments.
It was PT, Physiatrist, Orthotist (new orthotics), Dentist, Podiatrist (ingrown toenail), and Cardiologist, Whew!.

Wow…..I bet your insurance card got a workout! Hope it didn’t melt from all the activity. Good that you got all that out of the way, though.

Sometimes things do go slowly. I’m still working with my therapist on my soft tissue problems 3 years out from my THR. I had done so well a year ago, but things slid backwards last winter probably from lack of regular activity and exercise. But, like you…slowly things are coming back.

I'm sorry to read you have been having a tough time @Pumpkin :loveshwr:

Let's hope you are truly around the corner and everything goes more smoothly in 2026!

It has taken my hip around 9 months to feel better. Over the last 2+ months my hip turned the corner, and I am able to do more comfortably. The Si Joint injections help a lot with my back pain. Starting using my walker to go for walks, eliminates back pain and allows me to walk further, getting some much needed cardio exercise.
Using the walker was a lifesaver when my husband was in hospital for an ablation and Watchman placement for A-fib, I could navigate throughout the hospital without stopping to rest. He is doing well and feeling a lot better.

Currently my left knee is a bit more of a challenge than my hip. I posted in my knee recovery thread about my osteoporosis in my left knee TKR revision from Stress Shielding just below the tibial implant. Plan to get a second opinion, but right now I am enjoying having no regular medical appointments.

It's always something.

It’s great to hear some positive news for you, @Pumpkin. This has been such a long slog for you but things definitely sound better and more manageable. I’m betting that those walks will really help. At least you can get out and enjoy Spring.

Glad to read the hip is improving! But I’m sorry the knee is now giving you trouble.

It’s so true — once we reach a certain age, it’s always something.

Happy to hear your hip is doing better.
I think once we have had more than one surgery on any joint we have to deal with fallout and deal with occasional issues.
Hope your knee feels better soon.
