Glad to hear you're on the good side now Dori! Take it easy and keep us posted!:thumb:

Re: No Kneed 2 Worry

Remember the other night I woke up in a LOT of pain because the nurses forgot to plug the icing machine in... The previous night they insisted that my operated leg didnt need compressions. Well the second night also coincided with Day 2 which was very painful due to the blocks and anesthesia wearing off. I cried that nite, not from depression, but from pain and frustration!

Today I noticed a green and white striped pill in my med cup and when i inquired was told it waz Prozac. This was not discussed during my preop visit on dec 19th! At what pt was a decision made that i needed to be medicated for depression and anxiety??

I told the nurse to take the pill back. I am speaking to take the head nurse abt this because i am concerned and not happy with the care i am receiving here.

Re: No Kneed 2 Worry

Hi Dori I am sorry you are having trouble with the pt nurses. I hope you can voice your concerns to powers to be, to take care of your pain medication and icing as often as needed and wanted by you. I suspect if you get a survey, they will be getting an earful. The is no reason that they shouldn't stay on top of your pain meds and icing. I would be plenty upset to see that Prozac, especially if your not on any antis why start one if you don't need to. Will have you in my prayers:prayer1:

Re: No Kneed 2 Worry

I intended to type 83 degrees of flexion, not 73

Yes, there's a lot going on w the nursing staff here. I have been moved to the PT floor so hopefully it will all get better very soon.

We got the prozac issue straightened out.

I will try my best to keep my thoughts and my posts positive. Thanks!

Dori

Re: No Kneed 2 Worry

Dori, Happy that things are getting straightened out for you. And welcome to the other side.

You need to start a new thread on the post-op area for your posts during your recovery. Just remember to follow all the good advice you've gotten here and you will do fine. :snork:

Will be keeping up with you. Judy

Re: Grandy Girl's Recovery Story

Thanks, Judy!!! I hadn't noticed Dori's posts were still in her pre-op thread!

Dori....I have moved your recovery posts to this new thread in the post-op forum. If you would like a different title, just tell me and I'll make the change.

I'm glad to hear you resolved the Prozac issue. That would have tightened my jaws a bit too, I'm afraid. It's always good to question meds if you don't know what something is!!!

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Hi Dori, I hope your situation will improve now they have moved you. I am very envious of your extension figure - well done! Take care xx

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

I believe that its important for patients to be proactive regarding their health care. Unfortunately this hospital has earned some bad rep but also some exemplerary rewards for research service. I will be keeing one eye to them at all times.

Tonite I'm turning in early in prep for a full day of rehab. Jamie thank you for moving me over to The post to side.

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Oooh it always made me sooo mad when doctors and nurses wanted to sedate patients because they were having a good boo!

I remember a lady who came in for a D&C because she'd had an incomplete miscarriage. Naturally when she woke in recovery she was in shreds over her lost and much wanted baby. I caught the anaesthetist drawing up some IV Valium and asked him what it was for. He said it was for this patient because she was 'obviously distraught'! I sent him off with a flea in his ear and spent half an hour letting the patient cry on my shoulder after which she was much more composed! Insensitive numbskull! And so was that nurse who thought it more appropriate (i.e. easier) to give you Prozac than find out and deal with what was really troubling you. :tantrum2: :hairpulling: :hissyfit:

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

I felt exactly the same way! WHO WOULDNT be distraught over the crazy care I've received? They probably wld have put me in a strait-jacket if I acted out the emotions I was feeling at the time. Instead I chose to try to collect myself and communicate calmly... But I was upset and I was cried. So "automatically " that meant I needed to be sedated!?! That seems like a violation of my basic human right.

But on a brighter note, I had a good night but perspired all night probably trying to break a low grade fever I had of 100. 2. Just finished breakfast and will probaby be whisked off to therapy soon. I am manipulating my leg a lot better. It doesnt seem as sore as it was initially. Yesterday on the mat when the PT was recording measurements I had to push past some discomfort on the flexions. But only as much as seemed acceptable to ME.

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Glad you're feeling a bit brighter Dori, don't let anyone hurt you in PT remember! Keep us posted!:thumb:

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Hi Dori, I hope your pt went well and it wasn't too painful. Do you have a lot of swelling? When do you leave the hospital? Have a good day.

Yes, they should never try to give you something like that without talking to you. I aways asked what pain meds they were giving me etc.
When the pain meds/ice was screwed up I'm not surprised you cried. I did too.:cry4: That's their cue to get on top of stuff, not assume you need anti-depressants. There may be times when that is called for, but this doesn't sound like one of them.

I know for me (and apparently a lot of women) our frustration can sometimes come out in tears.

As I recall I had a slightly elevated temp for a day or so but they said that wasn't unusual.
Sounds like you're doing fine now. keep up the resting along with the PT. :)

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

I just finished PT and i was taking a break feeling kinda tired and the therapist said something like, "you'll have to let us know when you've had enough 'cause we'll just keep on doing. "
The patient that was working in that area along w me chimed in, "Yea, you gotta let them know when to stop.

And thank goodness I snapped to my senses. I told the therapist that I'd see her at 2:30 tomorrow and I got the heck out of Dodge.

This is showtime, not a dress rehearsal. It's time to IMPLEMENT the knowledge I have acquired from BoneSmart while respecting gmail body's own wisdom Android desire for healing and well being.

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Sorry abt The strange punctuations and typos and extra words. Its this Android I'm using...its highly intuitive. Just in case you guys thought it might be The narcotics

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

It's good to see you out on the other side, Dori. I can't really add anything to what's already been said to you, but I wish you a good recovery and will read about it with much interest.

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Hi GrandyGirl,
I have been so frustrated with my pain control...had iv pump and two percocets round the clock in hospital.....well I actually had tramadol for awhile in hospital, then went to the 2 percs every 4 hours before coming home....got home took the prescrip to pharmacy, it read 2 percs every 6 hours and that was it...did not keep pain under control at all....husband called dr. he said we would discuss it at followup visit next Wed.....have hydrocodone for other things wrong with my body, so I started taking 2 hydrs evers 2 hours and no percs.....think this may be better.....also taking a muscle relaxer once aday----so hard to type,,,have to keep backing up to erase mistakes. PT is torture....told husband last night I was going to get their home numbers, find out where they live and send Roy D. Mercer over to their house to have a "chat" with them. Hang it there, everyone says this will get better, well I believe that because it couldn't get much worse!!

Re: GrandyGirl's Recovery Story

Luvtocamp, I would caution you against self-medicating with prescriptions you have at home that were given for other situations. You are putting yourself in danger. While serious pain is not something you should be having, you also should not be having difficulty functioning like you are describing. You may be overmedicating yourself!

Normally hydrocodone is prescribed at 2 pills every 4-6 hours. You say you are taking 2 every TWO hours PLUS a muscle relaxer. Please stop and contact your surgeon once again.

In addition, your PT should not be as painful as you describe. Tell the therapist you are no longer going to allow it and when you begin to feel more pain than just a mild discomfort, tell them to stop immediately.
