Thank you so much for the information. It's a bit costly LOL. I wish you the best on your surgery.
Xxx

I got the lazy one, with automatic circulation. You can get a gravity feed version from the same place for about $125. Just click the Rehab and Therapy section under the Shop By tab and you'll see the cheaper version. Appreciate your good wishes. I'm so ready I wish they would call and say get here tomorrow.

@iivesfam5: I've read somewhere on the forum that Saran Wrapping a knee at knight can help alleviate morning stiffness and soreness. Type Saran Wrap in the Search block at the top of this page and it should take you to those posts. I think it's most effective later on in the healing process; I just got it early so I won't have to worry about it later. My wife says I could be the poster child for OCD, LOL.
Not everyone needs to use saran wrap. You can easily buy it, or get someone to buy it if you need it. It's not really necessary to buy it in advance "just in case".

Night pain solutions using moist heat and clingfilm

I was just answering a question, Celle, not trying to tell anyone what to do. They are free to do whatever they want to prepare for this ordeal, just as I am. But if someone asks a direct question, I will answer it. Is that against the rules?

@TwoKneeOrNotTwoKnee, love your name!! :heehee: Although I had my knees done six weeks apart, l, too had a BOGO! Since I had already met my deductible, my second one was free! Gotta love that! For my TKR's I had an epidural with "happy juice." I was a little nervous about it, but it was awesome. Didn't remember a thing, and no nausea afterwards. I've had trouble with nausea after general anesthesia in the past and was glad there was one less thing to worry about.

Although I had one done at a time, my ice machine was my best friend. Since most pain meds have no affect on me, I think the ice helped me more than anything. Another thing to consider (and something I discovered reading here and never would have thought of it) was getting a toilet seat riser. I use Walgreens pharmacy (not sure if you have them by you) and am in their points program. I went online to order the riser and used my points and got it virtually for free! Also, my town has a "nurse's closet" where you can borrow medical equipment for free. I was able to get a cane to use for both knees. (This post makes me look like a cheapskate! But hey, free is my favorite four-letter word!)

@Lovestoread, I hope I never get that many Walgreen points. :)
Hadn't thought about the toilet riser, but I was in a furniture store today trying on motorized recliners. I was sitting in one with a lift function when a couple walked by. I quickly let them know that I wasn't really old enough to own a lift chair, that I was just testing it out. BTW, I was just in Oak Brook two weeks ago.

@iivesfam5, I initially thought I preferred to go to rehab, but my doc says that he prefers to send all patients home. Says there is less risk of infection and that patients who go home tend to take ownership of their recovery more.

That is true on rehab. And makes it easier on you so u can't rest ice elivate properly. And you can have the comfort of family and friends. It's hard to be in rehab.

(Sorry to add this). My sister had total knee and she had to go to rehab. She got agervated at staff. They keep her a wreck. And she said next knee I will go home. Cause they don't leave you alone. And with them constant poking on knee don't give it time to relax. But that is my point. Second knee she had smooth peaceful recovery. She said one thing she could not stand was code blue or call on line 2 or nurse to room 5. But it's all how your feeling.

My advice would be if you have some one at home. If not still before ya go. Set it all up and you can do it.

Read Josephine story on here. Wow so inspiring. Gave me hope.
And toilet riser is big +++ I have one. Xxxxxxx good luck.

@TwoKneeOrNotTwoKnee , I love my motorized lift recliner, although I've only used the lift function once. They move so slowwww, but it gave my PT and I something to laugh about. I understand why they're slow -- if you need the lift function, you don't want it tossing you about. I didn't find anything that was quite right in a furniture store, but I did find one model my local furniture store could have ordered for me. I wound up going with one I found on the showroom of a medical supply place and have been happy with it. In retrospect, I think I would have been just as happy with the one I could have ordered from the furniture store (and I'd have gotten the color I wanted).

Many people find rehab frustrating and uncomfortable, so if you are able to return home, you'll probably be happier in that environment.

No, Rob, you did fine. I wasn't reprimanding you.
I was just cautioning against buying everything you read of in advance. It's so easy to over-think and over-prepare, and then end up with a whole lot of stuff you find you didn't need.

My apologies for a bout of crankiness. They seem to be popping up more frequently the closer I get to surgery. I try not to recommend anything to others, especially since I have not gone through this before, but I do find that researching all facets of the surgery and recovery periods has kept me occupied. I don't buy into everything, but I do try to adopt the procedures and products I find intriguing and possibly useful for this and beyond. Remember, I intend to resume my tennis and other physical activities when able, and my future therefore will be full of sore muscles and other joints besides the new knee. My problem now is that I've just about run out of things to research, so the next 7 days should be very interesting. :bored:

Good news -- I found a used lift/recliner in great shape for $200 on Craigslist, and the seller was even willing to deliver it. It's in the living room until after recovery; then it gets demoted to the basement.

When I use the lift function it makes me feel like I'm getting dumped into the garbage truck. Also, the chair looks just like the one Archie Bunker had. Everyone makes fun of my chair, and I can't say I blame them. Of course, they all want to sit in it.

My husband called it "porch furniture," but he helped me bring it home and get it set up, and he hasn't said a word about it since.

Changed docs today. My original OS is probably a very good surgeon, but I just didn't feel comfortable with him. The new doc has an awesome reputation, was very positive and upbeat but also objective and comprehensive in his comments.

I can't wait for the new hardware.

@TwoKneeOrNotTwoKnee I see you made the new OS decision. That's great. Still with Hartford Hospital? My surgery was at UCONN. I was pleased with the surgeon but less pleased with the hospital itself. They are building a new tower there dedicated to surgery which is supposed to be state of the art. So, when I decide to have my left knee done, hopefully, the tower will be completed.

I see the surgeon tomorrow. The staples will be removed and hopefully I'll have some answers as to why I get these spasms in my hamstring. The stretches help a little, but when it spasms, ouch! Not much I can do until the cramp stops.

Does this change the day of your surgery? Will you still have them done together? I forgot to ask before.....what were you doing in Oak Brook?? Shopping? I'll be back there shopping next week!

@Lovestoread, @momweb, the surgery will still be at Hartford Hospital, should be on or around Sep 1. One of my daughters is an RN, one floor below the Ortho floor. Still getting both done at once, but the new doc says that I will likely go to a rehab facility after I'm evicted from the hospital after 3 days. He said he only had 3 BTKR's that went directly home. Told me it takes him 35 minutes per knee, so I asked if I could just use the drive-through window?

I travel around the country to teach 4-day professional picture framing workshops and was in Oak Brook to conduct a class. Love it there except for the traffic.

Oh yes....the traffic there is awful! I certainly never go there during rush hour! My husband worked there for years...don't know how he did it every day.
