Wow @TwoKneeOrNotTwoKnee my one knee took longer than 35 minutes! Your guy is a real speed demon. He really must have this whole surgery thing down to a T. I always wondered what took them so long! But 35 minutes doesn't seem like a hell of a lot of time. Do you get to choose your own rehab? I know that Southington Care is known for their therapy. If I had to go to a rehab (God help me) I would have gone there. I'm too young at heart to think I could survive for even a minute in a rehab center, but when you need one, they are a godsend.:thumb:

A whole couch? I'm a bit jealous. :)

Hope this is ok post. Did not know how to describe it well. The long part I can trade sides on it.
This was easier than the recliner. Although I still have to put lots pillows under it and behind. Me.

@momweb, yes I get to pick, as long as it's on Anthem's list, of course. I'm leaning toward McClean in Simsbury, which has been recommended by both of my docs. A bit far from Bristol, but I just want the best rehab I can get.

35 minutes/knee seems pretty quick, and he closes too. His office told me that 7-10 days in the rehab facility is average. I may go nuts.

@TwoKneeOrNotTwoKnee I had a referral to a rehab from a retired nurse who did the same surgery I am doing. She recommended the place highly, and said they really know what they are doing to get your recovery off to a good start. My husband will not be home during the day, and I don't have anyone to come and assist me. Plus our house is not set up for the initial recovery. I would be living & sleeping on the couch downstairs. We have an ancient cast iron tub with high sides; 1) impossible to get in and out of, and 2) would likely kill you if you fell in there. I'm not happy about rehab, but plan to "suck it up." I tell my friends at work that I am choosing to view it like going on a prolonged business trip to a crappy hotel where they abuse you. (Just kidding about the abuse - I have taken this forum to heart, and no one will touch me without my permission.) I will be able to get PT 2X a day. I have mentally prepared for two weeks, but I harbor a secret hope that I can maybe come home after one week there. We'll see.

The place I am going only does ortho rehabs and cardiac surgery rehabs; the respective patients are on different floors. I am focusing on about Aug 1 - hoping I can be home by then with a good boost to my recovery from the stint in rehab. However, I can't undo the constantly looping "Tried to make me go to rehab; I said No, No, NO!" in my head. :heehee::rofsign:

Should I bring my laptop to the hospital? I assume others have done that since I see post-op posts that could only have come from the hospital. What's the typical policy of hospitals regarding laptops? Any additional thoughts?

I only brought my smartphone to the hospital and posted from it.

  • Went for my annual physical today with my PCP, all went well but he too added how brave I am to do a bilateral. Geez!

I, too, only took my smart phone. It was the only thing of value I took to the hospital. No jewelry, makeup, clothes, etc.
