I couldn't take Tramadol due to stomach issues but find Endone taken with Panadol helpful with pain.

I have been taking Percocet since the surgery. Each pill contains 325mg of acetometaphine. When I've taken 2 pills/4 hours, I was inadvertently taking 3900mg of acetometaphine. As they have reduced the dosage, the acetometaphine amount has remained constant, but the arthritis pain in my 'good' knee has come back as well as some pain that I've been experiencing in my shoulder despite the nearly 4000mg of acetometaphine.

@plnppl I'm glad to hear that your recovery is going better this time! I am always amazed by the courage and strength of those recovering with both knees done (at the same time or within days or weeks of each other). I try to watch very carefully how much I do. Trying to increase activity slowly without overdoing it is certainly a tricky balance to find.

The Nurses at the hospital kept telling me how brave I was but it really wasn't an option because I knew that I would never have the courage to go back again and get the left one done. The pain isn't really double just pain! The first few weeks weren't good but I have a much more positive attitude this time around and it has been a better recovery. Sure I have a few down days when I really want to get on with things but the end result will be worth it. Today was hard when my husband went with Grandson to the Zoo and I had to stay home and rest but my turn will come as will yours and we will both be dancing in a few months!

Hi @H20PoloMom

Hi my name is Nana moon 27. I have been a bonesmart member for a little over six months now. I hope that you don't mind me popping into your thread? It's so lovely to read and hear about a nice recovery such as is yours. Well done.

Yes it is very tricky to get that activity balance right. Unfortunately it will be trial and error but you'll get there. Once again well done. I will check in again tomorrow if you don't mind? Xxx

Here's wishing you a pain free night xxx

Love Nana moon 27 xxxx

@plnppl don't sell yourself short! YOU ARE BRAVE! Despite the results the first time around, you went back to not only fix your first leg, but took the chance on your left too. In my book, that's brave! Funny that you mentioned both the zoo and dancing because they are both on my to do list once I'm healed. I keep trying to convince my son to take his girlfriend to the zoo since I can't go yet without joining that club we all try to avoid (and I know that she likes the zoo).:happyfeet:

@Nana moon 27, I found this site back in November or December and have to admit to following your recovery even before I signed up. I admire your kindness to others and your attitude despite all the extra challenges that you have faced as well as your honesty about them! You are always welcome to pop into my thread:flwrysmile:

In honor of celebrating the little things in TKR recovery, I'd like to note that despite the visual swelling on the outside of my knee and obvious swelling on the inside, my knee is starting to look like a knee again instead of just one blobby continuous leg. Imagine an artist working with clay, I can just make out what she's attempting to construct and oh what a work of art it will be when she's finished (I hope)!

Hi @H2OPoloMom well done on your improved knee. It sounds like you're well on track. I'm sure it will be a work of art!

I'm glad you liked my thread that was a very kind thing of you to say xxx

Love Mana moon 27 xxx

Pop in any time! It's lovely hearing from you and how you are progressing with your recovery! It is definitely trial and error! I went to the doctor today and got some more Endone for pain relief. Doctor said the Left Knee is still swollen but. I was aware of that. It will take time! Afterwards, while waiting for the script to be filled, enjoyed coffee and quiche with my husband. Didn't get any sleep last night as it was hard to get comfortable but I am pleased with the way things are going. The clicking in my knees seems to be lessening and I see the Surgeon next week. I am hoping that he gives he the all clear to drive. Are you having a good day!

Thanks for the kind words! We are all here to encourage each other on this journey! There is an Advert that used to be on Australian T.V. for Pantene Hair Shampoo that said "it won't happen overnight but it will happen"! This is the same for those of us having TKR's. The first time around I couldn't see through the pain tunnel but this time I know that "it won't happen overnight but it will happen!" My mantra along with "patience Grasshopper patience!" Patience being much needed!

I have to giggle at your doctor telling you that your knee is still swollen @plnppl as I'm fairly certain that we are all very attuned to our swollen knee(s).

My good things for the day: I slept 4 hours in a row last night (my longest stretch yet since surgery); I got out of the house not once but twice today; my husband took the day off to be my chauffeur, I made 2, yes count them 2 full rotations on an upright bike, and there was a former NBA player doing PT at the same time That I was today.

My 'waiting for the consequences' for the day: see above:heehee:. Truly though, I had to go into work this morning to work on some curriculum. It's a half hour drive or ride in my case, and I planned on being there for 2 hours which stretched into 2.5 hours which thew me off in my med schedule, so instead of taking it half an hour before PT, it ended up being due at the end of PT (please excuse the run on sentence). Having a new prep, this trip was unavoidable (and I don't have to go back for 2 weeks). I did manage to take a nap between the two, but by the time I got to PT, my knee was soooo stiff. I was really looking forward to riding the recumbent bike like I always do for the first 10 minutes only to find it "out of order," so I said, hey, I'll try the upright bike, and rocked back and forth burning a whopping 11 calories in 10 minutes, ha ha. I did manage to do all my exercises, all the reps, but very slowly. It was very busy at PT today, so when it came time to measure my rom, the physical terrorist volunteered to measure mine even though I'm not his patient. I warned him that I was stiff, I warned him that I stupidly went into work and I reminded him that since it was his last day, he didn't need to worry about results and that just because I was measured at 120 on Monday didn't mean that I would today, and I wasn't, and he didn't damage me and I was at 116, so all considering, that's not too bad.

Reality check for the day: Four weeks of icing, elevating and healing left me unprepared for the stamina required for the outside world.

Well @tiredwife, I'm not sure that it's swelling, but it is supersensitive again tonight and hot. The hot is normal for after PT, and I'm hoping the sensitive is just my nerves starting to function again. In the meantime, my cryocuff is like strapping a gauze of needles to my knee, even with the super soft towel that I'm using to protect my skin. Looks like I'm switching to the gel pack tonight. Sweet dreams everyone!

@H2OPoloMom Hubby didn't have a cryocuff, but he has become good friends with his gel packs. At first I had to force him to ice, but now he will do it on his own. He says the numb part of his knee is getting smaller. Hope you have a great night.

Wow I take my hat off to you for even the attempt of going into work! Your stamina will improve but even the small things take it out of you at this stage! You sound as if you are doing reall well! Loved your phrase "physical terrorist! Keep up the good work! I see my surgeon next week and hope to be able to drive after that!

I'm fairly certain that I stole the physical terrorist from one of the other BoneSmarties, but I can't remember who to give credit to, but it is such an apt description!

Oh to be able to drive! I wish you good knee fortune in being able to drive again:vespa:!

Yes I am hoping that I will be able to manage driving. After the first TKR on my right knee I had clearance and I drove at 4 weeks, however, it was painful and as we know that TKR didn't work out too well! This time I will wait until I see the surgeon next week! I will also go to my Physio and check how my knees are going. After my home physio visits they told me I would be okay to do my exercises at home and increase my walking which I have been doing so haven't actually gone and gotten hydro or other physicality. Hydro didn't appeal as we are in the middle of winter here and freezing cold.

A friend of mine used to commute from Michigan to Australia for work. I always wondered how he dealt with not only the time change, but the season change as well.

All 3 of my children have participated in swim and water polo, and the pool area is always warm! If a pool is designed or used specifically for therapy, it is usually kept at a warmer temperature which may warm the chill from your bones and be worth it.
