Same old song and dance pain can not sleep . This has been since Sunday night . I did make an appointment with GP . Truly can not stand the pain .

You are not alone. 1:00 am here and I'm on my iPad trying not to think about sleep. I do have a polar ice machine and am icing my leg as long as I'm up.
I am 4 weeks post surgical, and my OS ' office told me after a weekend of NO pain meds, that they are sending in an order to the pharmacy, but half the dose and twice the span between pills. I told them I still have a lot of pain especially at night and heard that this is the protocol and I should practice deep breathing.
I just read another post might try that said to apply heat to thigh muscles while icing knee. I'm hoping to try it as a lot of my pain is in my thigh.

I know at night when my family is snoring away I feel ten times worse because there are no distractions. Do you play scrabble or words w friends or anything? I'm here if you want to try a game. Don't give up, I'm told it gets better.

tmwillia you are only four weeks post op and need pain management . What is wrong with the Drs. Thinking ? You really need proper pain management . For some reason the heat did not help me .seemed to make my pain worse . I prefer heat to ice normally . I have not played my games for awhile got caught up in the candy crush game . What a ridiculous game. I would love to play them with you though must keep the brain functioning .

So far I only play scrabble and words with friends. If either of those seems like fun for you, I think you would send me a game request through Facebook. I'm Terri Lesner Williams. Hope the next time you can't sleep you think of this.

I have edited your post above to remove your name and email addresses. It's never a good idea to put that kind of information out on a public forum. Please use BoneSmart's Private Message feature to send that type of data to someone you want to have it.

@JamieA Thanks, I was thinking it was a private message when I posted. Realized after the fact I had posted public .

No sleep tonight pain is crazy bad . This entire week has been unbearable pain , muscle spasms at night . Being pushed to the point of tears.

Pjmc I am so sorry you are having so much pain. :console2: I will keep you in my prayers. I hope you get to talk to your doc and get some relief very soon. I hope you can still have a good holiday.

Thanks Crystals5. I am grateful for your prayers . I know they will help . I just want to be able to post happy , positive events.
I really do not want to be this down and disappointed.

Pjmc....don't ever hesitate to post when you're feeling down. That's when you need your BoneSmart family to rally 'round you the most! And we'll always be here to do just that.

I can really empathize with you night time muscle spasms. Please talk to you doctor about this. I have had an ongoing problem with muscle spasms which (humiliating to admit) is most likely overuse of muscle groups that have been so underused they've become really flaccid. Pain meds simply do not help with this kind of problem. Chime in here medical experts!!
Tell your doctor about the spasms. Clonazapam (Klonapin) has really helped me in the past. And Gabapentin(Neurontin) helps me to relax so I can sleep without restless leg. I'm up now at 3:00 am, because I forgot to take the increased dose of Neurontin. When I'm a little less foolish though it can help me with a reasonable nights sleep.

When you have a miserable night, of which I've had many, it's setting you up for a miserable morning and between the emotional toll, I really think nighttime pain is the worst and nothing seems to work.
I hope you will let your doctor know about the spasms and ASK for a drug to address that.

I called over a month ago and Mandy at or this office said he would not prescribe muscle relaxers . Mandy appears to be reading from a text book and I get aggravated I am an individual and want the Drs. To treat me as such . But I made a mistake having this OS . No after care at all . He saw me once at four weeks post op . Not scheduled to see OS again .i really do not like this complaining mess I have become .

The spasms can come when one's pain is not properly managed. You are between a rock and a hard place, Pjmc, if you are still having significant pain and cannot get either your surgeon or GP to prescribe something for you. The only thing I know you can do is to keep trying to get through to one of them.

Grateful to you @ JamieA for your helpful advice . Monday I plan to get very assertive with the Drs. I tried orthos office today they were closed. I also have an appointment with my GP on Tuesday . If neither will help me I am going to try a pain clinic , not sure if my ins.will cover that. PT , Drs. Keep telling me this is the hand I am dealt that the preexisting plate , screws , scars Make my pain recovery rom difficult .

Question for everyone . Wondering if anyone else was told post op that their range of motion would not be 100%? I am tired of complaining but really would not have had the surgery had I known my ortho was going to say 90 rom would be considered success.

The thing is that these numbers are just that....numbers. The real measure of one's success with surgery is what life functions you are able to do or not do. BUT....it's way, way too soon to start putting you in any category of "success." You are a mere 3 months out and you did have a set of circumstances that could make your recovery a bit slower than others might experience. That by no means says you have had an unsuccessful surgery!! You must give yourself more time.....and I'm talking about months. Keep working slowing at all of this and see where you are at the 6 month or 1 year mark. It is possible to make improvements in that time, so don't give up!!!

I called my OS office today . I told them of my concerns , my pain level was crazy bad today and told them this as well, I made a point of telling them I did not want to deal with the nurse that acted as if each patient is exactly the same that I had enough of her reciting her text book info . The nurse I spoke with heard all I had to say and said she would get message to my Dr. I asked about muscle relaxers also . So I came through the door and who is leaving me a message but the nurse I asked not to have to deal with ! I am totally defeated. I give up !

:gaah:Sorry you are having to deal with a nurse who is clueless about the complexity of your situation.
I agree with Jamie, you are still early in your recovery, several posters have gained ROM a year or more after surgery.
Take care and remember this is a marathon not a sprint.

Hope you are feeling better today, did you ever get the muscle relaxers?:)
