Nice to see you back on the forum Mandy. I dont think any of us were prepared for the recovery of a knee operation whatever was involved. Its knocked me sideways and there has been many a day when I have said I wish Id never had it done. Im pleased to say lately I have been coming round to the idea that Im glad. It has taken ten months tho.

P.S good luck with the OS tomorrow. Dont be scared. Its your knee so your progress. Everyones different. And from someone with a ROM of 97 at almost ten months I do know how you feel. Please let us know how you get on. Sending hugs to make you feel strong. Would put lots of smilie faces but my ipad wont let me. X x

Wow! I appreciate the suffering you've gone/ going through but your comment of 10 months really gives me hope. Although I think its not been worth it at this stage I don't think I will really know until this coming Winter. I know there are a lot more people far off worse than me, this forum doesn't take that into account. I like that. Any operation is big, traumatic and everyone needs hugs whether its a PKR, a TKR or BTKR. I'm in the minority but it's still a big deal.

Thanks Pat and will do. Useless info.....my bestest Auntie in the whole world is also called Pat. xxx

Well back from seeing my OS, well one of his sidekicks and guess what........he was actually pleased with me! I was pleasantly surprised and it makes such a difference to my attitude. He said I can try driving and I maybe going back to work soon but must enquire if I can start part time for a couple of weeks. Happy Days!

All that worrying about his displeasure, and come to find out you are doing good. :friends:

Wow back to work in a couple of weeks...... the 10 weeks I've had off seem to have flown by but very much Groundhog Day. Will be weird. But on the good side 10 weeks of No Smoking has to be a good thing. Right?

Some of us seem wired to be overly sensitive to the opinion of authority figures. Anyhow, I hope you are taking some time to revel in your success. It's almost like giving birth, getting through TKR recovery, isn't it? Sometimes I feel as if the moderators and veterans of this website are midwives, in a sense. Like childbirth, TKR recovery cannot be imagined until you're in it, and then you wonder what the heck stupid decision you've made!! Tough, but likely nearly every other life challenge, time takes care of most of it, and we're left with stories and pretty good knee.

Good day today, managed to hang the washing out, 3 big steps up to the garden with basket and peg box, and bring it back in on my own when it was dry. Definitely have to plan ahead. Hoovered upstairs after Steve (OH) took the Hoover upstairs before he left for work. Don'tl tell him but hoovered the stairs and downstairs too. Wasn't a brilliant job but still a positive goal. Im thinking on the lines that if this knee doesn't bend or get stronger I still have a life. Just have to pre plan every move before I do it to avoid accidents. Very tiring but achievable x

 What are you thinking there, Lily? You're 4 weeks out! Much too soon to be deciding it's not going to get any better than this! However, if you start doing things like hanging out laundry and cleaning the entire house, it will take longer. Check this out again Activity progression for TKRs which says this....

Weeks 4 and 5
Increase walks around, out in the garden or street, to 20 mins, longer if you feel up to it.
PT can now get serious but never ever overdo it.
Exercise bike 10 minutes and try for full rotations if you can

Additionally activity:
Gather a little bit of laundry, or put it in the machine, or take it out but not all of it
Now you can do a little dusting and tidying; do a little meal prep (for yourself not the family!)

I thought it was bending pretty good now - ?? If it is 100 or more, you are past the critical point and it'll continue to improve ROM. Basically the first four weeks after MUA are what it takes to regain what you had immediately after MUA. How is your swelling? How did all your saintly housework affect your swelling?

Every little activity that you're able to do makes you feel more human and normal, which is great, but do try to pace yourself, especially since you had MUA for adhesions, and inflammation is linked to adhesion formation.

Ummm ...Josephine I'm 11 weeks out this coming Wednesday xx

Mary I got to 90 today all by myself ......I was so shocked when the PT measured it, she had to point it out on the scale :happydance:.......Life is coming back whoop whoop! I pace myself all the time. I do a little bit and rest, raise and ice, then if and when I feel like it I'l do a another little bit. I've done zilch today except watch films.

Good news. Any good films to recommend? My range was stuck at the same place for about a month or more and then at pt today it was about 4 to 6 degrees better. I guess you just have to keep working on it.

Yep a lot of patience required to be knee patients........one of my all time favourites is 'The Lake House' - Sandra Bullock & Keanu Reeves :)

Good hydro session this morning. I've been asking for strengthening excercises instead of ROM ones. They were a little taken aback but complied......Yaaaay I AM the boss!

Another good session at PT this morning, was at 94 ROM before and measured 90 after. Do I care.....NO. I'm concentrating mainly on strengthening exercises and feeling very positive.

I enquired about returning to work part time but got told it's not my company's policy and they didn't want to set a precedence so got I signed off for another 2 weeks instead. They weren't too keen so they are now trying to find a way to make it possible. I am the boss of me! :yay:

I've just read back though all my posts on this thread. It's amazing to think I would ever feel normal again back in May. But here I am 12 weeks later completely different. Still a long way to go but well on the way :martini:
