TKR Flexion Range extremely low

It's how he made me feel but I thought it was me being paranoid. Interesting to know. I looked at the 'League for surgeons' recently. My OS is on it and his MUA rate per KR is very low. I wonder if this is the cause of his attitude. A personal goal perhaps. Gets you thinking. Also, right just before my anaesthesia for MUA he said it was a one off.

Yes I did mean internal damage.

Since hydro this morning I've gained a new flash pain on the inside of my knee. It's so quick by the time I've said oww it's gone. Weird.

The only damage you could cause is to the skin if you apply a fresh and unprotected ice pack to your leg. You have heard of freezer burn?

Update: Finally given up 1) the compression stockings - no replacement..... 2) The CPM machine went back yesterday - replaced by inflatable exercise ball........3) My my make shift leg raiser - a dressing gown cord. Time to start using those muscles although it feels really weird......4) Bought an adjustable step block 6", 8" & 10" - not sure if its too early for it yet but as and when will put chairs either side for support.....5) using crutches around the house.

Sounds good. I used the exercise ball to do my flexion stretches. All you have to do is sit on the ball and roll forward. It gave me lots of control over the stretch. They were slow, and I held them 30-60 seconds. Personally, I did nothing but stretches until I felt as if I was out of the woods flexion-wise. BTW my knee still feels weird. I wear a brace, partly for stability (my TKR has excess laxness -- another story), but it makes my knee feel better. I went an hour this morning without it because I left it in the bedroom and didn't want to go back in and wake up my sleeping hubby. It's absence was noticed.

How do find the knee brace with swelling? I have several braces from pre-op and keep thinking it might give me a little support as like you it all feels weird and stops me from trusting it.

I have the Ossur OaSys carticare brace. It's fantastic. It stays in place, feels comfortable. You can adjust the angle to perfectly match the varus-valgus angle of your leg. I don't even think about it. I bought it online at braceshop.com. You measure your knee, order the appropriate size, and if it doesn't fit you can exchange it within 30 days. I also got it much cheaper than it is now. But I once had a very expensive "professionally" fitted brace and it was a pain. It slid down all the time.

Yeah, my knee puffs out a little around the brace but it's minor.

I had a quick look. Def expensive. I wonder who in the UK has equivalents?

I'd check with your surgeon about a brace before you splash out on such a thing.

At those prices I don't think it's an option anyway.

For me, the brace idea only came up after my 2nd opinion identified laxity (as did the second 2nd opinion). One of them suggested getting a brace, which I did. It really wasn't my own ortho's idea, and in fact he made a face when he saw it.

I'm seeing my OS on 30/07/2013 I will mention it to him then. It may help.

Don't hold your breath! They're not much favoured over this side of the pond!

I don't expect they will approve but will enquire anyway. I've just noticed your little fish Josephine :).

Been to physio today and struggled to get a ROM of 75. It feels like I'm going backwards. It's really hard to stay positive. I had a good cry last night, feeling like a burden to my family. They see the nice neat healed scar but don't realise there is still a lot of mending going on inside.

Just so fed up.:headbang:

Please try and stay positive. I really know its hard at times. As you say family and friends seem to forget about the inside healing and we have to live with it every single day and night. I have ony JUST turned a corner and Im at 40 weeks. The more I do now the better my knee seems to get but its been a long long journey. My RO M still isnt brilliant but getting better at last and I tend to focus on the things I can do better now in ay to day living and not on numbers. I hope you feel better soon. A good cry does do us good I know ive done it many times thru this recovery not so long ago as well. You know you only have to come on the forum for help advice and sympathy. Take Care

Thank you Pat. I try not to think of numbers but it seems very important to my PT. She measures before Physio and again after. I'm doing more and more for myself to ease the burden on my family, they are still very helpful just not so eager. Can't really blame them as they thought 6 weeks as I was told. It's been almost 9.

So thankful for this website and the wonderful people who make up our little gang.

:thankyou:

Really put an effort into PT today and worked damned hard! She had me on the Cross Trainer, stepper, bike, wobbly board and steps. Thought I did great and the knee felt looser. WRONG: it's totally blown up tonight am iced elevated and up to full meds (which I haven't been for a couple of weeks). It's 9 weeks tomorrow PostOp WHEN will I start seeing some improvement. I really wish at this stage I'd never had it done. The pain was bad pre-op but I still had a life!! I can't do this anymore. I've had an MUA and still the bend won't come!!! :cry:I cant do this anymore!!!:gaah:

Lots of hugs coming your way!
Methinks you are doing a bit too much....cross trainer? Stepper? Etc.....
I couldn't do any f those things at 2 months! I couldn't even walk up stairs 'normally ' ...
I was still just walking, icing, elevating, taking tramadol at this stage.
You really are early in recovery, at your stage I thought I'd never recover.
