bellaroma how are you doing now? Are both your legs getting better? Were you able to walk on your operated leg? Was it strong enough to handle your weight without a cane? That's what I'm worried about, mine isn't. I don't know if I can get it strong enough before my next surgery or isn't that something I should be concerned with?

Before the second hip, I did not need the cane for that side, but I believe it was only 2 or 3 weeks before the next one. Every little bit counts, you will do great

bellaroma I am trying to do muscle strengthening exercises and do think they're helping. I think my dependence on the cane is getting less all the time but if I do push it my pain will come back and then I start to limp.

I started back to work yesterday, I am working half days and I am glad that I decided to not to put in anymore time than that. My first day back went pretty well, no surprises. Next week I will be doing full-time but I only do that for 3 days then I go back in for my second surgery. That time is coming fast, but I'm looking forward to having both surgeries behind me and have the total recovery start.

That's fantastic progress.... you are doing so well. Your pain on walking sounds normal -- you seem very advanced. Just don't push too hard: it is still early days. Trust me, if you take it slow and steady you will do much better. We all get so desperate to walk properly after limping for so long but our muscles need to to rest and adjust after all the atrophy from disuse, then the trauma of surgery. As you are working and that will be a big drain, try to save some energy to rest and treat yourself gently as you build up to number two. Wishing you all the best. Vicki

Vida thanks for the encouraging words, it's easy to forget what normal is after surgery and waiting to walk normal again. My muscles are so tight in my legs, that's what I'm struggling with. I might not have walked normally for years. So I do need to give it time, slow and steady is right.
bellaroma, Yeah I keep the cane close and do try to make my muscles work as much as I can before they get sore. How are you doing?

This a good sign I'm doing so much better.....went grocery shopping and use the cart as my support. Put my groceries in the car, return the cart to the cart holding area got in my car drove home, once home, got out of my car took a few steps and remembered to grab my cane, and then realized I had left it at the store in the cart. Thankfully the store had found my cane so I got it back. These last couple days I have noticed more muscle strength. It does come back I just have to give it time.

Hello sandybeach,
I've been thinking about ya. Are you ready for surgery #2? It's good to hear that you are getting your muscle strength back. I am praying that this second surgery goes smoothly for you.

Hi Your next surgery is so close, are they about 6-7 weeks apart? How are you feeling about that now it's coming up next week? Sorry to pick your brain but my surgeon has said to me that I need my other hip doing and that he'd do it any time after 6 weeks but I panicking that 6 weeks would be too soon, it'll be really interesting and helpful for me to know how you get on and what you feel about it, hope you don't mind me asking?. My thoughts were to go back to work at 5-6 weeks and then have the next one done in another 6-8 weeks after that, what made you choose to go back so quickly. Sorry lots of questions I hope this is ok?? :friends:

bellaroma and Weezi I notice muscle strength gets a little better than I don't notice anything for a couple days or more I suppose that's the way muscles come back and usually I get muscle pain too, like when they are over used. Thanks for the good thoughts on my next surgery.
Littlejem I am in so much pain with the hip that needs surgery that I feel it was a good choice for me to have them this close together. My surgeon wouldn't do them any closer. I also think that my bad hip is slowing my PT also. How are you doing with your surgery? I hope all is well, but do you feel that your other hip is restricting you from doing any of your exercises? I will definitely let anyone who wants to know, how smart it is to have the two surgeries this close together after I'm done and progressing. Right now I can't see me getting better without it. You need to schedule your next surgery in the time frame you feel comfortable with.

bellaroma, yes I have just one day to go...Friday is the day. We will be able to compare notes. Your experience will help get me through. I'm a little nervous wondering how I will get around after my next surgery but I think I will do fine, my new hip will have to toughen up and it has come a long way in just the past week. I will be on a walker again for a while and that's okay. I can't wait to find the beach and walk in sand and sunshine....my dream. I am thinking I might have to do some trip planning for next winter.....somewhere warm, sandy and a hot tub included.

Thanks very much sandybeach I really appreciate you advice and comments. I'm managing ok with still having a bad hip and if I'm really struggling I just push on with exercising my new hip and give the old one a rest. I go back to see my surgeon in 2 weeks so I'm hoping I'll know better how I feel by then. My last surgery was planned and done in just over 4 weeks so I'm hoping that when I decide I won't have to wait long.
I'll be thinking about you tomorrow x :puppysmooze:
