THR Double hippy happy<

Good news on your recovery front @SarahUK. Prayers for you with your mum’s funeral Saturday. You have certainly had a full plate physically and emotionally.

@MammaT I have indeed had a plate full recently. I'll be a wreck in the following days after Saturday, but I'll get a mental slap off both parents and told not to mope around and get on with things.

Well, I just had my first full night in bed. Physio has banned me from sleeping on the recliner. Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, hubby didn't roll into me or knock the hip so that was good.
Heel stung a little getting up but passed a lot quicker than previous mornings. Being able to roll to my front helped a lot, spent the night going from side to front and back to side again.
Even better, the bruise on my heel seems to be going down bit by bit :)

Now it's coffee time and home physio time. :)

Congrats on bed time @SarahUK. I know what you mean about the mental slap by parents! My mother was widowed at 30 with 4 children 8 and under to raise. She gave us a great role model of strength and dealing with what life gives you-no option to to sit and mope. She kept that attitude through her breast cancer and was strong until the end. While I was feeling a bit miserable during my lthr I thought of all she had dealt with and could feel those mental slaps.

Keep your positive attitude. Prayers,

Ginny

Thanks @MammaT
Got a pretty hard mental slap earlier, think I sat and moped a bit too long. Ended up going to the shops to take my mind off things. I have to have a positive attitude, I don't like dwelling on negativity too much as that drains me of energy. I was raised to put others before me and I've continued to do that all my life having been my grandmothers carer for a number of years before she passed away. I'm also fiercely independent and have, I admit, found it hard to accept help off other people.
I can hear both my parents saying 'stop moping woman, get up and get on with your life' and it's true, even when living they'd say that to me if I felt sorry for myself.

Time to go do round 2 of home physio, but first, coffee :)

Hi @SarahUK
Thinking of you as you prepare for mom's funeral on Saturday.
I'm sure it will be emotional for you. Hopefully the love you feel from family and friends
will help comfort you. I imagine it's very difficult for you dealing with this and recovery.
Both are an energy drain. Please take care of yourself in all of this.
That's what mom and dad would want for their precious, Sarah.
Sending a warm hug your way and prayers for comfort and peace :console2:

@Layla Thanks for the hug and prayers, I'm positive I'll be an emotional wreck for a few days after, I was with my dad when he passed away.
Dealing with the recovery is actually helping keep my mind busy and not giving me time to dwell on things.

Talking of recovery, I've finally managed to go up the stairs using just one handrail and normally, going down is a different story, still a bit nervous of trying to do them normally but I'll get there. Had another good night in bed. Achilles felt a bit tight this morning again but soon loosened up so I think it's healing, keeping pressure off is certainly helping. Bruising on the heel is still there but not as prominent as it was. A few minor aches around the hip this morning, painkillers will take care of that.
I have my CT booked for the 27th Jan to see what, if anything is going on with the hip, muscles etc, I'm also having a head CT done at the same time as I have unexplained hearing loss.

Glad your heel is better. I was given a sheepskin to place on bottom half of bed that helped reduce friction as I had pillow under knees.
It feels so good in your core and back when you can stand up straighter, don't you think?
You sound like you are doing very well.
Fingers crossed for upcoming scans and don't forget to rest plenty when you can this weekend.

@Mojo333 It certainly does feel good. Back complained a bit as it wasn't used to being straight after so long leaning to the left. Being off the recliner is helping a lot as well.
Having had a read of some other threads, I must admit, I feel for those who have trouble sleeping. Not sure if it's a blessing or a curse but I've never had problems sleeping either before or after surgery, the only trouble I had was sleeping on my back and trying to find that sweet spot where I was comfortable.

Just noticed the swelling in my foot and ankle isn't as bad and I haven't been elevating it for long periods of time.
Need to find my ankle bandage for tomorrow as I'm going to be on my feet for a long time.
Progress is being made, albeit slowly. I'm still learning patience - never been good with that :)

I'm glad you are seeing improvement.
Sometimes when I bemoaned having to make concessions (or do things in a recovery fashion) when handling real world events, my better half would say...remember how you had to handle these things with bad hips?
Truly dealing with recovery is easier than dealing with that!
Prayers for you this weekend...she is smiling down on you, I bet.

Happy to hear about signs of physical improvements. Prayers for you and family this weekend. Glad they have your testing scheduled.

Aww, Sarah
I'm sure you will feel quite emotional and Saturday and the days that follow. I agree that your recovery can
be a bit of diversion at times. Probably a blessing in disguise, really.

All the milestones along the way are what make recovery bearable. Slowly and carefully you'll improve on the stair climbing. It's wonderful you're sleeping well and also that swelling in your foot and ankle is going down.
Wishing you luck with both upcoming CT's, the hip and hearing loss. Please keep us posted.
Prayers for strength, comfort and peace for tomorrow. :console2: :prayer:
@SarahUK

@Layla I think I cried myself out in the days following my mums passing.
Keeping my mind busy has certainly helped me get over today and will do so in the following days.
I have an appointment at hospital tomorrow for mould impressions to be done for hearing aids. CT scan next Saturday.

@Josephine I'm kind of glad he did in a way. I was so nervous of sleeping in bed that I used it as an excuse to stay downstairs. Once I managed to get over that, it's been plain sailing. Hubby has been very aware of every move he makes so as not to knock into me accidentally. Although, I will admit, I miss my 2am fridge raiding :D

I'm hoping you found comfort and felt lots of love today @SarahUK
I'm sure it was difficult, but thankfully you made it through. Prayers that the coming
days and weeks bring you an ever increasing sense of peace.
Will be thinking of you as you move forward in recovery and get through the
medical appointments of the coming week. Please keep us posted....we care :console2:

I did indeed @Layla , so many people there that I hadn't seen in many years.
Today was closure for me, now I can move on knowing that no matter what I do, they're both watching over me.
Having all the appointments for various things will keep me busy and distracted. I know from previous experience that if I start to dwell and think on things too much I'll hit depression. Been there once, do not want to go there again.
I will of course keep you updated on test results as I get them.
Going to go and have a well earned drink....or 3...or maybe 5 :D

You have a healthy attitude, Sarah
I'm sure it will be easier some days than others, to put that into practice.
There's a sentiment I once heard and have shared here before (somewhere?)
It's regarding our lost loved ones > It's Okay To Look, Just Try Not To Stare.
It's the "dwelling" that gets us every time.
You seem to understand that, a lesson learned through previous emotional suffering.
Hugs and warm wishes for a pleasant Sunday
@SarahUK

@Layla Everything is easier some days and harder as well.
Dwelling on things doesn't get us anywhere. Having lost both sets of grandparents at an early age and both parents within 10 years of each other, I've learned the hard way how to deal with it all. Time is a healer, but the amount of time needed to heal varies from person to person, pretty much the same as having a hip replacement, everyone is unique and so is the time taken to heal.

Hip took a fair amount of strain yesterday but doesn't feel too bad so far today, the odd ache and small grumble if I move wrong.

I want this rain and sleet to stop, weather is miserable and too cold - left hip protests with cold, right doesn't seem bothered by it now :)

Yay for new hip behaving.
Yuk for yucky weather...I hate it for you but it is 65 and sunny in SE Georgia, and I'm on my way to go to the country to soak it all up!
Might be short lived...
